This is the second D.E. Stevenson book I have read and I enjoyed them both. Published in 1941, it is set in Scotland against the backdrop of WWII. Frances is a young woman living a dull existence with her aunt and uncle in London while life is passing her by. When the chance comes to escape London's bombing for the country, she uses it as an opportunity to begin an entirely new life.

Spring Magic is a simple book about taking chances, starting fresh, and learning to let others in. D.E. Stevenson has a knack for writing about women who are overlooked and undervalued, who feel powerless until they take their lives into their own hands. I loved the Scottish setting and the cast of characters, and really hated for the story to be done. It was perfect for reading in between some more serious novels.
