Ironically, my family watched this episode of Sofia the First again today for the 100th time. To say that my daughter is obsessed with Sofia would be like saying a flower needs sunlight to grow. Disney Junior is something of high value in our household and we love anything with high moral standards that we can get our hands on.

"The Missing Necklace" is a tale about a small Griffin that has broken lose in the castle, reeking havoc and stealing jewels. This little fellow is supposed to be in the Jewel Room at all times, for he is the keeper of the jewels due to his obsession with sparkly things; however, he does escape and no one knows about it- thus everyone believes there is a thief on the loose in the kingdom.

Summary-
Sofia and Amber check out the castles cool jewel room guarded by a Griffin. A Griffin loves shiny objects. The Griffin escapes and takes all of the castles shiny things! Sofia and Amber get the jewels back and have a happy ending.

Review-
This book ends with a "Princess Lesson" which states, "A true princess is good at solving problems.". I really like that the authors added that little thing to coincide with the book, it adds a bit more fun. For a reading level 1 book, it has a fair amount of words that are kindergarten challenging. The story is very fun and the art is fantastic! I could really see a kid enjoying this, and definitely recommend.

The book, for a reading level 1 introduces multiple interesting words from a kindergarten view. Overall, really great for kids.

This book was ok. The pictures were like the episode which was nice. The book also nicely summarized the episode, but it did leave out some important parts of the episode that took away from the storyline of the book.

Daisy and I read this together before school this morning. She already knew the story as she has seen this episode on TV. Her reading is improving but it still wears her out quickly to try to sound words out. This type of book is helpful for our struggling readers.

Skips part of the episode, and slightly changed some things but is still good for a learning reader.

If your children love the Sofia show on Disney, I'm sure they'll like this book. I do love the ending Princess lesson - a true princess is good at solving problems. But I think it's good to teach that just like playing soccer is a skill that we can learn - the more we practice the better we become, problem solving is a skill that we can develop - as we keep trying to solve problems we can get better at it.

Talking points - What do you do when you lose things? Have you ever lost something that you loved and never found? What do you do to make sure you can find our things. What things that you have are the most special to you? Sofia's necklace helps her be able to talk to animals and understand them. If you had a magic necklace or magic ring, what gift do you wish it would give you? Who tries to help Sofia find her necklace and get it back? Who had tried to help you with problems you face in your life? What have you done to thank them? What could you do today to thank them? What problems have you solved? What problems are you still trying to solve? Who in your life do you think is really good as solving problems?

In The Missing Neclace Sophia has lost her magic neclace that allows her to talk with all of her animal friends. Frantic without it she starts to find clues that may not lead where everyone expects. As an early reader mystery there are very frew words per page and the concepts are kept simple alligned to the pictures. This book is good for children ages 4-6. Older children may be able to solve the mystery way to easily. Sophia is definitely a character that should be in the Disney sections of children's libraries. Be sure to add these early readers for patrons who love the cartoon.

When Sofia's necklace goes missing, so does other things around the castle. Sofia's animal friends saw the thief but without her necklace they are unable to communicate with her. My girls really like this book.

My little Princess Sofia fan picked this herself. This is basically an abbreviation of the episode, and so is perfect for a young fan who wants to repeat over and over. It was requested immediately again after the first read.
