The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd is a passion filled action adventure on the high seas!

I really enjoyed this book; it commanded my attention from beginning to the end. Take a spirited, stubborn Highland lass and then add in a sexy, swashbuckling pirate, and you get a VERY entertaining read.

The heroine, Caitrina Grant, longs for adventure, but her father has other ideas. He's finally decided that Caitrina has denied too many suitors for her hand in marriage, so he's decided on a man for her to wed. This idea does not sit well with her, she doesn't want to settle down, she wants to experience life and travel to exotic places. Then Alexander Kidd, a pirate, shows up to get a treasure map that his father left in the Grant's care until he can come to claim it. Caitrina is very intrigued by him, she’s never met a pirate, and a sexy pirate at that! Caitrina decides to go on his ship just to take a look while no ones the wiser, and her cousin and best friend, Kyle, follows her on board . They end up hiding so the crew doesn't find them and then they fall asleep only to wake up after the ship has set sail, and is far out to sea. Of course, once Alex finds out that Caitrina and Kyle stowed away on his ship, he thinks they are after his treasure map. He plans to drop them off at the closet port in France, but before he can do that something happens that makes it impossible for the ship to stop there.

There was plenty of fast paced action that made it an exciting read. I loved reading about the sea battles that took place and all the places they stopped on the way. Paula Quinn did an excellent job of describing the battles, places and people, I could easily envision all these things as I was reading.

All the characters were wonderfully written, my favorite being Caitrina. She was a VERY STRONG HEROINE. I LOVED reading how she practically turned into a pirate herself as the story moved along. She never cowered and faced fear head on. She didn't let anyone tell her what to do, and never backed away from her decisions. She saved the day many of times during the story, and the whole crew was in love with her before the end.

Alexander was a really good character too. I loved reading about him struggling with his feelings for Caitrina. He was an excellent hero; sexy, brave, confident, strong, caring, and honorable. He was also a fantastic leader and took being the captain seriously.

I definitely felt the attraction between Caitrina and Alex way before they acted on it. The sexual tension leapt off the pages until they couldn't deny themselves any longer. The loves scenes were nicely done, and added the spiciness I always crave in my romances.

There was one thing that I felt could have been done better...the ending...it was rushed. I wanted more details on finding the treasure and what it consisted of. I also wished an epilogue would have been added, it would concluded the overall story in a better way.

In closing I want to say that Paula Quinn wove a spectacular story, and I think historical romance readers would love this book. I urge them to grab this book and give it a try.

Even though this is book two in the series it can easily be read as a standalone.

Arrr! Ahoy to Seductive Adventures!

What a brilliant story to plunder into. Highlanders and Pirates Oh My! This story is more than just finding a Highland love ever after or a Pirate story in search of a bounty. No this is a story where love becomes the true treasure and adventure is the soul baring root to happiness.

Ach, me love me some Highlanders especially the Lasses. I totally admire how the Lasses are raised because they are just as fierce, stubborn, humorous, and feisty as the warriors of rumored legends claim to be. However, the word Pirates spells love with adventure on a whim. Put the two together and you get one seductive adventure that tops all climax driven fantasies. This is the perfect story!

I loved Trina (Caitrina), a girl after my own heart with dreams of adventure and a strong determination to gain her freedom of choice to love who she chooses and not some arranged old man chosen by her father or elder. She captivated me immediately with her fierceness and bravery out shinning her own brothers and cousins. Her determination had me cracking up and cheering her on even when some of the situations got her in more trouble than she expected.

As an added bonus, her cousin Kyle won my heart over too. He seemed to always be guarding her back and watching out for her even though most of the time he found himself going along with her schemes because they were as much his dreams as they were hers regardless of how much trouble they found themselves in.

Trina and Kyle’s adventure becomes exciting and humorous as they finally face the pirate of the ship they accidentally stowed away on. Yes Capt. Alexander Kid was an all-around surprise.

Capt. Alexander Kid was more than a surprise, the author’s imaginative description has you convince that one look at his crooked smile and the simple sound of his voice will have you feeling three sheets to the wind. The author’s visionary words made me feel as if I was standing on ship with him and feeling my bare feet on the wooden planks of the deck as the wind coursed through my hair with excitement and experiencing every command Capt. Kid gave.

I found myself falling in love with Capt. Kid and Trina’s characters immediately. Capt. Kid challenged Trina every chance he got and she gave back just as much as he dished out with a feisty defiance. Their chemistry was electric throughout the whole book. My heart actually fluttered when they finally come together and made love. HEAT LEVEL: 3 Flames

This adventurous story has lots of humor between all the characters. The natural bantering between family members like Trina and Kyle was expected but then add the teasing of attraction or trying to fight the attraction makes a cute story. Plus add a bunch of pirate’s to the equation and get ready to bust a gut laughing as they become won over by a wee highland lass whom they gain respect and gratitude from.

Trina’s father and clan members do make a journey in search for her and Kyle but the misunderstanding soon becomes clear when they finally end up in the same town and end up lending a fighting sword to aid Pirate Capt. Kid in his fight with the King’s Navy. Trina confronts her father with the truth and a father realizes he has to let go of his baby girl and trust in her decisions. I have to say I love the fierceness of the highlanders and their legendary prowess rumors. SWOON!

I really didn’t want the story to end, I just wanted to journey with Capt. Kid and Trina as they continued on their travels meeting a new adventure every day and finding new treasures along the way. Plus, I wanted more of Kyle and want to know if he will get a HEA.

I highly recommend this historical romance and pirate adventure to all romance enthusiast. This is one story that will make your heart throb.

Excellent Read!

The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd is the second book in the MacGregors: Highland Heirs series by Paula Quinn.

Since she was a child Caitrina Grant has yearned for adventure. After declining many offers of marriage her father has had enough and accepts one on her behalf. The last thing Caitrina wants is to become a wife and have children, she wants to live new experiences, something she knows she can’t do in the Isle of Skye under her family’s watch.
Pirate Alexander Kidd comes to Skye to get a map his father left him with the chieftain. Caitrina has never seen a pirate ship before and takes advantage of Alex visit to explore his ship while he’s in the keep. Caitrina’s cousin and protector, Kyle, follows her to the ship, but their adventure gets complicated when they have to hide to avoid discovery from the crew that was staying in the ship. Soon after, they fall at sleep and wake up hours later when the ship has already sailed and is far from land. When they are found, Alex thinks they are in his ship to steal his map. He doesn’t tolerate stowaways, but he also doesn’t want to start a war with the MacGregors. He plans to leave them in France as soon as they reach port. But his plans change when they are forced to continue to Portugal. Alex can’t wait to get Caitrina off of his ship; she’s a distraction he doesn’t need. Caitrina was afraid on the beginning of their journey, but now she’s enjoying herself. Finally she’s getting the adventures he dreamt about and being in Alex’s company only adds up to her enjoyment.

Paula Quinn is one of my to-go authors when I want a good historical romance. I have liked all of her books, some more than others, but in general I think they are all pretty good. When I saw this book up for review I knew I have to read it. My only problem was that lately I haven’t been enjoying historical romance as much as I did before. I kept postponing and postponing reading this book until the moment I couldn’t postpone it anymore. Somewhat reluctant I started to read The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd and… Oh, me of little faith! I should have known better and trust Paula Quinn’s talent with words, because after reading just couple of pages I was completely lost in the story.

I loved Caitrina so much! She’s the perfect historical romance heroine. She’s smart, she’s witty, she’s determined and all around a good person. I loved how she earned the love and admiration not only of Alex, but also from his crew. She is truly remarkable heroine.

Alex… He’s a dreamy pirate! He doesn’t believe in love because a woman broke his heart when he was young. He loves his life of pilfering and risks and the sea is his lover… until Caitrina comes to his life. *swoon*
Alex hides under a tough façade, but deep inside he’s soft, caring, funny and sinfully delicious.

Caitrina and Alex couldn’t be a better match, they are a match made in heaven; they balance each other, and bring out the best from the other. Their banter and chemistry made of The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd an impossible to put down book.

The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd is packed with adventures, secrets and so much sexual tension that you will find yourself devouring the pages wanting to know what is coming next. The different locations made the story even richer. Paula Quinn did an amazing job with the different settings, from the Isle of Skye, to Portugal, to the Caribbean and of course Alex’s ship.

My only complaint about The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd is that the end felt a bit rushed and incomplete. A short epilogue would have done wonders to perfectly finish this book. Despite this, The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd was a pretty great read.

The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd is part of a series, but it could be easily read as a stand-alone. I recommend this book to historical romance fans or to anyone who likes to read about sexy pirates and witty heroines.

I’m looking forward to next book in the series, The Scandalous Secret of Abigail MacGregor, to be released on March 31st, 2015.

The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd is a wildly sensual and wicked pirate story that will kick the readers’ imagination into high gear.

Alexander Kidd is on a mission to find the treasure left to him by his father. The hunt leaves him searching for a missing map that happens to be in the possession a notorious Scottish family on the Isle of Skye. He retrieves his map but he never bargains that a young beauty and her cousin would stow away on his ship. Alexander has a good mind to toss her over but Caitrina Grant shows a strength and beauty that holds him captivated.

Caitrina Grant yearns for adventure and fun. She refuses to marry the man that her father wishes and sets out to live her own life. When the dangerous Pirate comes to her home for his map, she sneaks out to get a good look at his ship. Caitrina never meant to fall asleep on Pirate Kidd’s ship but the damage is done. Her dreams of adventure might cost her the freedom she longs for.

I love Paula Quinn. She knows how to create just the right amount of romance and action. It is hard to create a good pirate romance story but Paula nails. This is very different from her other books. There are highland elements mixed with the stories of the sea. I love their time on the island where they get to bond more.

Alex is a great hero. He is gorgeous, smart and devilishly charming. I don’t know how Trina resisted him for so long. There is so much more to him being a roguish pirate. He is sincere and honest. He holds back after suffering a great deal of loss in his past but it is hard to hide his heart from Trina.

It is so wonderful to see all of the MacGregors and Grants come together to find Trina. The adventure and passion makes this one of my favorite in the spin-off series. I can’t wait to read the next book.

The thing I love most about Paula Quinn's books is the way I get so easily lost in the world within them! I have been a huge fan of this series since the beginning with Callum and I have highly enjoyed every generation since! This one was by far one of my favorites. I didn't think it was possible to give some of the other guys a run for their money, but Alex certainly does! I was enthralled from cover to cover with this story, the characters and the thrilling adventure! I love the bold, brazen, fearlessness that Caitrina possesses, her fierce love and her tender heart. She is such a strong female character and she clearly takes after her mother and her grandmothers. Alex is a fascinating mix of characteristics and the two of them mesh so perfectly together. I adored Kyle and really hope he gets his own happy ending down the line! The scenes between Connor and Caitrina just warmed my heart in all the right places and melted me, too! And as always, it warms my heart to catch up with the MacGregors and Grants! I loved it!

I loved this book I enjoyed Alex so damn much,"do it," he provoked her with a sinful, sinuous smile, "and the beast that I am at this moment keepin' at bay will more than likely haul ya up against that wall and take ya, despite yar protests." I mean he's just so sexy and at times playful, "is that so?" Hell, he was sleepy. he tugged his belt and let it drop to the floor. He peeled his shirt off next and tossed it on the bed. "Are ya going to shoot me then?" I mean the guy know he's good looking and he can be cocky about it, "lookin' for something?" She wished the floor would open beneath her and swallow her up. He caught her appraising him like a cat would look at a succulent mouse and she had no recourse to take but honesty." I mean the man does need to work on his good-byes they're sweet I wanted passionate from him, "I'll see ya later today, love," he promised, and with a kiss he was gone." I loved the man Alex had become with Trina.

THIS IS AN HONEST REVIEW, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

2 stars - Adult Historical Romance / Early 18th Century

What I liked? One word, pirate and his ship bears a beautiful name, Poseidon's Adventure. Don't know why but I fell in love.

What I disliked? The inconsistency of the story. Did you know, I thought it was over at 40% when actually it wasn't (honestly, I couldn't wait for it to be over) and I almost gave up at 60% something because the story's dragged and I got bored and I slumped. The reason I continued because I needed to know the end result which is not satisfying at all and I am disappointed.

I don't know if I wish to continue the series. Time will tell.

Bentornate Fenici!

Promosso.

friggin fantastic. literally loved it from cover to cover. a gem in its genre. Amazing adventure and delightful love affair!

Favorite Quote: “Think of me what you will Miss Grant. I would have ya live.”
Living is more than just breathing, Captain.”
"On me ship, livin’ is what I say it ’tis.”

Arrrrggg! Aye, allow me to tell you a tale of Alexander Kidd of the Seven Seas *waves peg leg*

Ohmigod! This was such a fun read. I completely lost myself in this pirate adventure and I was totally not expecting that! Paula Quinn does an amazing job of bringing this story of sexy pirate captain, Alexander the Kidd and the beautiful Trina, with her wild, insatiable hunger for adventure.

Alexander Kidd is a man possessed and his latest adventure shows him after his dead father’s hidden ship, full of treasure, with nothing to follow but a map and the perils of the sea. His quest takes him to a fierce land of Highland-esque warriors where he meets Trina, who nearly takes off his head with an arrow during their first encounter and they remain embattled from that moment on!

Trina was such a great heroine. Brave, bold, and adventurous. She trained in battle with her cousin Kyle (whose book I need like I need my next breath I loved him so much) and is a master archress. Trina has also been recently betrothed, an arrangement orchestrated by her father, an arrangement that drives her to make the most drastic decision of her life.

She decides to board Captain Kidd’s pirate ship. Luckily, Kyle follows. Unluckily, they find themselves as stow aways when they find themselves at sea and at the mercy of a merciless Alexander Kidd.

Swashbuckling and dangerous and so damned funny. I absolutely enjoyed every minute. Quinn depicts life aboard Alexander’s ship so well I felt like one of the deck hands watching it all unfold with my own eyes. Hunted by enemies far and wide, sailing with Alexander is the thrill of a lifetime and more than Trina knew she could ever handle. Their love affair was destiny. Watching them crash together and break apart like the ocean waves they sailed on was beyond entertaining. I loved that she challenged Alexander at every turn. She was no shrinking violet. She fought for her safety and her right to live the life of her own choosing. He protected her and soon his mates all grew to adore Trina as they no longer saw her as an annoying woman aboard or a damsel they could assault sexually but they saw her as a mate and valued her skill and (eventually, ha) her virtue.

I found this novel to be very character driven. The recurring theme of following your own path and being brave and fearless while handling emerging love made this read quite enjoyable and relatable. Trina leaves the safety and security of her comfortable life to find herself and acknowledge the free spirit she carries within a quest to be beholden to no man. Alexander wrestled with loyalty and obligation. Friendship and duty were his crosses to bear all the while grappling with the notion that he could have it all. A great love affair with his lass and the thrilling lifestyle he leads. It was the moment when both characters realized they had within their grasp all they ever wanted and worked for, and dreamed about – only to toss it to the wind and simply choose one another. This moment is what made the journey that much more meaningful.

Packed with adventure and near death and a journey to a HEA that was believable and rewarding, The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd was my first novel by Paula Quinn but most certainly will not be my last. It is a gem in its genre. Amazing adventure and delightful love affair!

This is the second book in the Highland Heirs series. It's easily read as a stand alone story so don't worry if you read this one first.
It's the story of Caitrina Grant a Highland lass who has been secluded with her family and has turned down every offer of marriage because she longs for adventure, not marriage and children. She's a feisty woman who knows her way around a sword because she's been brought up with all her male relatives, some of whom secretly have been teaching her to fight. She wants to see the world, she wants to live an exciting life before she even thinks of marrying, and certainly she doesn't want to marry a man that her father has picked for her.
Adventure comes along in the form of dashing pirate Alexander Kidd. His father left a treasure map for him in the safe keeping of Catirina's father and Alexander has gone to Scotland to fetch it. Alexander has been hurt once before in love, and now lives his life for pirating and fun. Fun which includes drinking, and bedding many women. He finds it difficult to trust anybody apart from his closest friend, his quartermaster, who has been through all the trials that Alex has been through, including seeing his father hanged.
The story really begins when Caitrina and her cousin Kyle go to view Poseidon's Adventure, Alex's ship. They go early in the morning so that nobody will stop them, but unfortunately due to lack of sleep the night before, they fall asleep below decks and don't wake until the ship is well out to sea. From there we find out what Alex does when he finds them on board, does he believe their story that they didn't stow away in order to steal his map. Does he let them stay on board where they can both live out adventures beyond their wildest imaginings. And of course does the relationship between Alex and Caitrina flourish or flounder. You will find out by reading the book.
The book is perfect, I loved reading it so much. Alex is the perfect fantasy pirate with the perfect body, the bandanna, the gold hoop earrings. Think Captain Jack from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, only if possible, sexier! His swashbuckling ways were such fun to read as well as making you sigh when he protects those that he loves. Even though romance is strong throughout the story there is also the wonderful story of the treasure hunt, and having to fight to get to it before all the other people that want it do. There is betrayal, love, laughter and much passion, and it all accumulates to make a wonderful read. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A Pirate Sails Away with a Highland Lass

This is another in the continuing saga of the MacGregor and Grant clans. Set in early 18th century beginning in Scotland, this is the story of Caitrina Grant, daughter of a Highland chief, who longs for adventure and wants to avoid the marriage her father has arranged for her. Alexander Kidd is a pirate who is in Scotland seeking the map to a sunken treasure ship, a legacy of his pirate father. He comes to her home to retrieve the map his father left with her clan—and sails away with Caitrina.

While Alex’s ship is anchored, she steals aboard with her cousin, Kyle, to take see the ship. But she and Kyle fall asleep and the ship sails… Alex, who is very attracted to Caitrina (and she to him) doesn’t want her messing up his plans, but it seems they are to spend a month sailing together to the West Indies and beyond.

I like how Quinn made Alex into a real pirate…the language…the deeds, even his casual relationships with women. Of course, that didn’t make him a likely hero but he developed a noble streak when it came to our heroine; otherwise, he’s the real, swashbuckling, bad boy deal. There a lot of adventure, battles at sea and exotic locales in this story as the pirates hunt for treasure…and hunt…and hunt. Caitrina wanted adventure and she certainly gets it!

There’s little of the Highlands here, and the only Scot on stage for most of the story is Kyle, though the cast of the Grant and MacGregor families show up at the beginning at Camlochlin and the end in the West Indies and Africa. Though it can be read as a stand alone, I think it might be best read after the earlier Children of the Mist series.

This is book 2 in The MacGregors: Highland Heirs series.

Caitrina Grant can't believe there are actual pirates on their island. Always looking for adventure, she has to check out the pirate ship before it leaves. She never imagined it would leave with her and her cousin, Kyle, on it.

Alexander Kidd can't believe that Caitrina and Kyle stowed away on his ship. Convinced they are trying to find the map to his father's treasure, he wants them off at the first port.

Circumstances lead Alexander to keep Caitrina and Kyle on his ship longer than planned. What happens when he realizes he doesn't want her to leave?

Paula Quinn hits it out of the park again with this pirate adventure! It's like she took Pirates of the Caribbean and add some very brawny highlanders to the story. Although I imagined Alexander a little less flamboyant than Captain Jack Sparrow.

The chemistry between Alexander and Caitrina practically leaped of the page. I loved that Quinn didn't have them immediately act on that chemistry. She let it simmer until the spark between them actually ignited! I always love a good romance aboard a ship because the H/H can't really get away from each other. It always leads to good fun!

I definitely hope that Quinn has a heroine in mind for Kyle because I thoroughly enjoyed him in this book. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!!

Caitrina Grant wants to travel the world and have an adventure. Her father wants her to settle down and start on a family. Caitrina is resolved to her fate when a pirate shows up in Skye. Captain Alexander Kidd comes to Skye to retrieve a treasure map left in the clan chief's keeping. Curious about his ship, Caitrina sneaks away to get a closer look and is followed by her best friend and cousin, Kyle. They are successful in sneaking on to the ship, and unfortunately, they fall asleep. When they awake, they are miles out to sea. Captain Kidd is attracted to Caitrina but he is distrustful of women due to a bad experience in his past (which is never fully explained to the reader). Caitrina and Alex dance around each other while Caitrina comes to realize that she loves being at sea and the adventure of being a pirate. It is fun to watch the transformation in Caitrina and the way she wins over the crew. Alex is a good man, despite making his living as a pirate. He is at times sexy, other times playful, and extremely confident. Alex struggles with his feelings for Caitrina for a good portion of the book and their eventual coming together is built up very well. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to more from the MacGregor and Grant clans.

#2 in "The MacGregors: Highland Heirs", but can be read as a stand alone. WOW! What happens when you cross a pirate, with a stowaway? Oh, yes, adventure, High Seas drama, danger, passion, romance and the chance for true love. From the first page to the last and beyond you have a feeling of adventure, you can feel the tension, and almost see the erotic lands aboard a pirate ship. The characters are exciting, enticing, and wicked. Of course, with a bit of deception, lots of adventure, and a lush, sensual setting, "The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd", will hold readers captive. Once again, Ms. Quinn has delivered a deliciously, scandalously,Scottish adventure. Another must read Scottish Historical Romance. An absolute delight from beginning to end. Can't wait for the next grand adventure!

This book has been on my TBR pile for a long time. I wish I had moved it to the top of the pile months ago! I have never been disappointed by one of Ms Quinn's books and this one was no exception.

Alex and Caitrina are sizzling hot from the first time they meet until the very last page.

Ms Quinn has a gift for drawing the tension out in her stories - long enough to make you anxious - but not so long that you loose interest.

And I know I said this about the last book, but I really don't remember her books being so hot - not complaining about it - it just feels different - in a very good way!!

I am looking forward to Abby's story and hopefully Kyle and Malcolm's books too. And Ms Quinn if you read this - I would love to see Sam and David find their perfect mates too :)

I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

I love a great pirate story, but throw in a hearty group of highlanders and you have an amazing tale that will remain on my keeper-shelf forever. Wonderful characters, and secondary characters. Pirates who plunder, pillage, and seek out the elusive prize, and a highland lass who wants to explore the world beyond her little island. She sneaks aboard his ship to have a look around and finds herself sailing away on adventure, and finds true love aboard her pirates ship. Her entire family of brawny highlanders on ship to rescue her. This was a fun, adventurous tale on the high seas, plenty of action, fighting, and a beautiful tale of love. I'd recommend this book to anyone who hasn't read a good pirate romance. Thank you Paula Quinn for a spectacular tale! Looking forward to reading more of The MacGregors: Highland Heirs series.

I haven't read a Paula Quinn novel in a while and now I'm wondering why I stopped. I guess I probably got caught up in all those new series books being published each week.

Anyway, I totally loved this book. Alex Kidd is an exciting character who makes you feel sorry for his failed romance and want to see him succeed with his treasure hunt and his new romance. I loved the pairing of a pirate and a fierce Highland lass. What a wonderful combination and boy did the chemistry fly right off the page.

There are so many wonderful characters, I'm hoping the series lasts a long time so we can see everyone's happily ever after.

I was in the mood for a pirate romance and this one curbed that appetite rather well. It was pretty fun and I loved the adventures we got to partake in as the reader. Caitrina was a head strong individual without being obnoxious about it and I adored her fierce spirit.

This one has been on my radar for some time now and I’m glad I finally decided to pick it up! Swashbuckling fun (God, did I really just say swashbuckling 🤣), adventure and a seriously awesome cast of characters! Never a dull moment for these folks!

Caitrina grant longs for an adventure beyond the lush hills of Scotland. So when a pirate ship glides into the loch, she knows that this will be her only chance to gain the adventure that she wants. Caitrina sneaks aboard, she is unprepared for all of the consequences and the seductive captain of his ship. Alexander Kidd knows that the sea is no place for a lady. Being pursued by deadly enemies from every direction. Alex won't rest until he claims the riches left to him by his father. Having a beautiful stowaway on his ship will not be tolerated. Seeking the riches and fighting his desire for Trina has become his toughest battle. Alex will have to make a choice. Which will it be sacrificing his quest or lose the woman who has stolen his heart?

It is a good book. It had been a while since i read Paula Quinn and I must admit to having put off reading this book since I absoutely didn't like the first one in this series. But as I said, it was a good read. Although it's the second one in this series and starts out with a family tree, it can be read as a solo read since most of the family doesn't play an active part in this book.

I am disapointed though, so I awarded only 3 stars, mainly for the writing style. So here comes my list about things that bothered me, mainly because I know miss Quinn can do so much better.

- I liked Alex as a character but feel that a lot was missing to make him into a hero. He was kind of one dimensional and a stereotype at that. So yes, he saves Trina more than once, he is very good in a flight and is very handsom. But what is he fighting for? Trina's parents and grandparents had ideals they were fighting for. They were saving their clan and / or their country and were totaly selfless. Alex doesn't seem to have any ideals and is just in it for the freedon, the money and the thrill.
- I also liked Trina, but same as for Alex, she too lacked true heroine quality. She just wants adventures and keeps on doing the same reckless, selfless things that make others need to come and save her. There is no development in her character on that part besides that she puts on other clothes and captures the hearts of the crew.
- their future. I was glad they got to be together, but have my doubts about how they are going to keep on being happy when kids come along. I can't imagine their future and that makes me doubt the happy ending.
- the idea that Alex thought they wanted to steal his map when he discovered them on the ship. Why would he think that when their family had held the map all that time. Later we learn that Alex doesn't trust women because of a previous experience. I kept waiting for miss Quinn to show me more about that apparent major event in his life, but it never came.
- Alex apparently had the opportunity to send a small boat to shore to send word to their families that they were on the ship. Why wouldn't he send them both to shore if he really believed they were after the map? Right, because then there would't be a story... But it didn't make sense. Maybe miss Quinn thought she needed a reminder that their family might follow them. But who on Skye wouldn't have guessed where they were: they disapeared at the same moment the ship left and Trina wanted adventures.
- Kyle makes some remarks about Trina's virtue in the beginning, but later on seems to encourage the relationship without one word about marriage. When her family shows up (not just her father and brothers, but both uncles aswell including the clan chief, nobody mentiones marriage and they even deliver her to him in Africa without looking for a priest. I really expected them to drag her home (alpha males as they are) maybe agreing to postponing her marriage to give Alex a chance to come for her.
- Sam and his feelings for Trina. Why? Couldn't he have saved her life without being in love? I didn't at any point get the impression he was in love and that bit about he being so good to hide his true feelings... Nah. I didn't see the need for any of that drama about him leaving the crew because of it. Then he gets shot, Trina cries out in horror and when the bad guy is shot within seconds she spares no thought for Sam but only wants to be in the arms of Alex. As it turns out a few pages later, Sam only had a wound in his shoulder. I imagined Sam lying on the ground in agony after having saved Trina's life and watching her cuddle with her lover while nobody cares what happens to him.
- their quest. With previous books filled with true historical characters and lofty goals I had high expectations for the plot of one of miss quinn's books. Seriously: a treasure map??? And a map that actualy leads to a treasure like gold and jewels. How predictable can you get?? And then all that money is spend on... Clothes and more jewels... Surely miss Quinn could have found a more worthy goal like an orphanage somewhere?

As much as she loved her homeland and her family, Caitrina Grant yearned for something more. Instead of being tied to a husband she doesn't want or love, she wants to go on an adventure. When handsome and dangerous pirate, Alexander Kidd appears on the Isle of Skye is search of a treasure map his father has left him, Caitrina sees a chance to get her adventure.

Alexander Kidd, son of the infamous pirate William Kidd has been left a treasure map to a ship filled with riches the English would love to get their hands on. When Captain Kidd goes to Skye to retrieve the map, he ends up with two stowaways on his ship,Highlanders Caitrina Grant and her protective cousin Kyle MacGregor.

The stowaways are discovered too late to return to Skye, so they continue on with Captain Kidd, who at first intends on leaving the pair in France, but then circumstances make that impossible, Alexander keeps the two Highlanders on. There is an huge issue though, both Alex and Caitrina feel an emotional pull towards one another that is hard to ignore. The innocent Caitrina and rakish Alex runs circles around each other until there is nowhere to run, but into each other's arms, all while trying to evade the English, and other enemies Captain Kidd has acquired over his illustrious career as a pirate.

The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd by Paula Quinn is the second in the MacGregors: Highland Heirs series. Alexander and Caitrina are from two different people from two totally different worlds, but their attractions transcends that difference. Alexander has to come to terms with his innate mistrust of women after betrayal by one he loved so many years ago. Young and innocent beauty Caitrina wants to make her own mark on the world even if she ends up going back to Skye to a life her father has planned for her. In the meantime though, Caitrina opens her heart to Kidd and his crew and when faced with feelings she's never had before, she then decides whether to act upon them. Once Caitrina gives in to those emotions, what will her Highland family do once they finally catch up to the pirate and his crew?

Paula Quinn' Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd is an adventure that takes the reader from Scotland to the tropics and a few exotic places in between. There is danger and romance in abundance before all is said and done, and isn't that why a reader picks up a book? I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did.

This is an 18th century historical fiction that is just delightful and makes me keen to read more by the author.

Catrina is a highland lass who after sending away many suitors has been promised in marriage to a highlander by her father. Considering this a fate worse than death and deciding to have one last chance at adventure, she decides to check out a pirate ship which has docked in the harbor. With her cousin, they board the ship however fall asleep and, when they awaken they find out the ship has set sail and, they are stowaways on the ship of Captain Kidd, a notorious pirate.. Catrina soon finds out the dangers of the pirate life and learns if she is to survive she will have to use all of her skills that she learned on land. Life at sea is rough, dangerous and she knows that being a woman she is at risk of being taken advantage of. She develops a friendship with Captain Kidd, and eventually realizes that she loves not only him but the adventurous life he can give her. Convincing him to keep her on board will be her greatest challenge especially knowing that her father will come to get her. I loved her spunkiness throughout the story as she takes on the notorious Alex Kidd.

Alex, on finding the stowaways, is angry. The last thing he needs is a beautiful woman on board his ship. He finds Catrina enchanting but knows that she will get in the way of his quest. As much as he wants her off the ship something stops him each time. Alex has been in love before and knows that love had cost him everything; so, he is reluctant to get involved again. As Catrina proves over and over that indeed she can cope with life at sea, he eventually realizes he can’t live without her. When her father does come for her Alex knows he will have to prove himself to her clansmen if he wishes to have a relationship with Catrina .Other than that he may be fighting for his life.

The story is full of sea battles, intrigue and lots of Scottish lilt to keep the reader turning pages. I know for a fact I will be looking for more stories written by Paula Quinn. A great book to curl up with and wile a few hours away.
