-- My thoughts. We all need this EVERY day. Not just on Thanksgiving. If we focused every single day on what we were thankful for, instead of the negative, what positivity would come from your life! Your choice! You make it every single day. Today's devotion, confidence and negativity do not mix, like oil and water. She is so right. Every day, the devotions are not long. Just 5 minutes people. That is just something to chew on all day long, great way to start your day off.
Like she says, whether you want to look at things through God's eyes, or Satan's, you make the choice. Gratitude. Choose it. Every. Single. Day.
I received this book in the from the publisher from the Goodreads first reads program.
I've never used a devotional before, but I chose Joyce Meyer as I tend to like how she explains things.
I have been reading this every day for a year and although there is obviously some repetition, on the whole there is something though provoking each day.
I have been a fan of Joyce Meyer for quite some time because her down to earth practical teaching methods really resonate with me. I always like to start the new year with a new devotional and this year I plan on using The Power of Being Thankful, after all we should be thankful every day of the year! The Power of Being Thankful is one year's worth of thankful thoughts that will hopefully give the user a new perspective on life, focusing on what God has blessed us with. Each day's devotional starts out with a scripture verse, a devotion and then closes with a prayer. I have sampled several of the devotions and each one makes me feel like Ms. Meyer is actually talking to me. A beautiful cover caught my eye with this one, but it is the life changing devotionals that make this a wonderful addition to my daily devotional time. I will say this sturdy little book would make a wonderful gift for anyone who might need a little spiritual boost daily. A new attitude of gratitude is what I hope to achieve in the New Year and I think The Power of Being Thankful will help me achieve that goal!
I very much enjoyed this devotional. It really reminded me how to be thankful all year long, not just at thanksgiving. It showed me how to find reasons to be thankful in the every day, not just for the big things. This devotion was verybuplifting and I honestly found myself sad it was over even though I have mine lined up for next year already!
Insightful and some of the devotionals were very thought provoking. I tagged my favorite ones to go back and read again for a quick bit of inspiration on days I seem to feel more like complaining than being thankful.
I found this devotional to be very helpful. I struggle to have a thankful attitude often, as much as I wish that was not so I seem to be a glass half empty person. I need daily reminders to keep my mind in a place of gratitude because in reality I have much to be thankful for I just seem to have trouble keeping my mind focused on those things. This little devotional was a great tool to help me do just that. Highly recommend.
I've been reading this each morning for a few years now. It is a lovely book and a great way to start the day, thinking of things for which I am grateful. Helps me to start off in a positive frame of mind. Even having read this before, I still find something new to ponder each time I go through it.
It sounds to me like Joyce Meyer had a rough life. I have been very blessed in mine. I think folks that had a more challenging childhood than mine might get an extra something from this book.
Gratitude opens God’s door and close the enemy’s doors in our lives
It's so easy to find reasons to complain about everyday life, which allows Satan to distract us and take a foot in our lives to try to steal, kill and destroy.
But with this book I enjoyed 365 days of Gratitude, reading scripture, and praying.
I appreciated the daily messages and consistency of the focus on gratitude. This was the first devotional I found I stuck with daily cover to cover. I just ordered another devotional by Joyce Meyer for 2025.
This is a great devotional. Many days the message was perfectly time for what was happening in my life. I will be using this devotional again in 2020 along with a few others.
This was my book on my desk and all year I would read before beginning work. What a wonderful and peaceful way to begin each day - with Jesus and putting things into perspective.
It's perfectly fine as a regular devotional, but I don't think it serves its purpose of instilling more gratitude in the reader. Most of the devotions are very loosely connected to being thankful, like there wasn't enough content from her other books to fill the book. Each one seemed to boil down to "just be thankful". The most valuable part is probably the prayers at the end, thanking God. I didn't finish it.
Spent a helpful year with this devotional. It is not ground breaking, but it is grounding. My advice would be to mark (and mark the index) as to which ones are particularly helpful for future reference. Don't rely on your memory to pluck things out from a year's worth of devotions with a similar theme.
I have read this book through two years in a row. It has helped me have a change in heart. A thankful heart is a peaceful, content heart. I love how looking at my life with a thankful attitude has made me a better person. I find myself pondering these little devotionals and related scriptures all day. I will be reading it through again!
I read her work almost daily, she’s the best bible teacher in the world to me. I wish I would have discovered Mrs Meyer a long time ago but am glad for finding her as I did. She’s awesome.
