Katie Reus® is the USA Today bestselling author of the Endgame trilogy, the MacArthur Family series and the Deadly Ops series. She fell in love with romance at a young age thanks to books she pilfered from her mom's stash. Years later she loves reading romance almost as much as she loves writing it. However, she didn't always know she wanted to be a writer. After changing majors many times, she finally graduated with a degree in psychology. Not long after that she discovered a new love. Writing. She now spends her days writing paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense.
Avenger’s Heat by Katie Reus Moon shifter series #4. Dark paranormal wolf shifter romantic suspense. Best read in series order. Erin Flynn is a new Enforcer in New Orleans. She’s recently gone through major trauma herself but refuses to talk to anyone about it. She feels she can power through any issues. But with pregnant shifters being kidnapped and held, there are similarities that hit too Los for comfort. While she doesn’t want to do it, she needs to talk to Noah about her own experiences and what she thinks is going on between the held shifters and vampires. Noah Campbell is sent back to his hometown of New Orleans to help investigate the missing female shifters and back up Erin as enforcer. His first job is to protect Erin since she’s his mate. Then they need to find out who is adding to the body count and why.
Vampires, wolves, death and blood. A fast moving story as the investigation uncovers an enemy while Erin is fighting her attraction. Noah and Erin have a lot of chemistry and it sizzles through the pages multiple times as they cement their relationship. Brianna and Angelo work in the background investigating and helping with recovery. The epilogue sets up the next book in the series. Only part of the problem has been taken care of. The heart of the evil still exists and the wolf pack will need to deal with it again. Dark and chilling. Sexy and breathtaking.
Even though I keep marking these books as mostly 3's, I do enjoy them and they are entertaining. I think the challenge I have is connecting with the characters. I don't know if it is the style of writing but I have a hard time clicking. Everything seems to happen so fast like we are jumping into the middle of the movie when all of the character backgrounds have already been explained and I am trying to catch up.
This is the fourth book in this series and follows Noah and Erin. Noah has been a part of the pack for a long time but Erin is more of a newbie. She has just been promoted to an enforcer and has been assigned her first case. Pregnant shifters are going missing in New Orleans. Noah tags along because his father's pack is based out of New Orleans. However, Noah hasn't been home in a long time. Him and his father aren't speaking. They head down together as friends with a ton of chemistry between them. Noah wants more but Erin is fighting it hard. See Erin went through a horrible ordeal. She was found by Noah and the pack naked behind a dumpster covered in blood. She is terrified to tell Noah all that happened that day and how it now potentially ties with what is happening to the pregnant shifters. During their investigation they learn a dirty secret that the vamps have been hiding that involves these shifters. As they continue to figure out who is behind everything, Erin realizes she can't hold back anymore. She wants Noah and hopes that he is willing to look beyond her greatest fear.
This book opened up a few doors for where the story could continue. We now know a few vamps that were introduced. Noah and Erin head back to their base but there are a lot of things that are still a foul in this universe. Looking forward to diving into book 5 soon. What are your thoughts on the series? Any shifter series you would recommend?
This starts off full tilt! Within moments I was pulled into the story and completely consumed. Erin and Noah's journey had a more angsty feel to it and as her history is revealed I was swamped with all the feels.
I'm usually focused on the hero, leaving the heroine to be something that highlights his actions. (Sorry, I'm an old soul who grew up on Harlequin.) However, I quickly changed tracks with Erin. She was a fierce, independent, and fiery character that won me over immediately. The fact that Noah recognized her abilities and allowed her to step forward made me love him even more.
This was a fast paced read with a lot of action, moments that moved my heart, characters that made me laugh, and plenty of sizzle. I'm absolutely in love with this series.
AVENGER’S HEAT breathed new life into Katie Reus’ MOON SHIFTER series and was, in my opinion, the best installment so far! Erin Flynn’s story was a long time coming which made the reward feel all the more sweeter when it finally showed-up in my mailbox. I loved learning more about this beloved character, and the change in local and main story arc, were welcome developments. This book also delivers powerful sexual tension and a plot line that’ll keep you enthralled until the very last page.
Reus’ enforcer werewolves are long-time favourites of mine; they are a rare breed of badasses among their kind and Erin has just joined their ranks. Alpha couples are fairly common in paranormal romance but, that being said, as a general rule the males are always slightly stronger. I loved that that wasn’t the case in this book. Flynn is Noah’s equal in all things and her powers are only going to grow in time. I also liked that Campbell wasn’t turned off by that fact; if anything, Erin’s strength only made him want her more. Flynn’s secrets are horrible and heartbreaking but they also helped add dimension to her character and made her HEA immensely satisfying.
Vampires play a large role in this novel’s plot line and I enjoyed learning more about these supernaturals who’ve only played minor parts in this series up until this point. The differences between bitten and bloodborn vamps was interesting and one of their ancient banned practices becomes the driving force behind this book’s plot. I liked that this story took place in New Orleans—it was a nice change of pace from life on the Cordona-Armstrong ranch. You can’t go wrong with non-stop action and this novel starts off running with a paranormal bar fight and ends on a different, yet equally (or perhaps more) satisfying high.
I was happy to see Brianna in this installment; she’s a secondary character that’s popped in and out of this series over the last few books. Her story has been begging to be told and I was worried that Reus was going to pass her by because she’s fae and didn’t really fit into the MOON SHIFTER universe. I suspect that the next novel might revolve around her and Angelo’s story because the lucky girl went and fell in love with a werewolf. They haven’t “officially” mated yet which I hope means that their real HEA is still to come.
Reus’ werewolf series is in no danger of slowing down now that vampires and the fae have joined the mix. AVENGER’S HEAT is a tightly wound package of furry revenge and sexual sizzle that’s sure to make ice melt, even in February!
Erin was a strong, kick-butt heroine. Noah's strength was that he understood her, and knew that he had to allow her to be herself. Even though Noah was a strong warrior himself.
I loved Noah. He was patient with Erin and loved her without reservations.
The plot was fast-paced and turned out to be very personal for Erin. I have to confess, though, that my favorite part of the book was not the resolution of their mission. It was the resolution of the love story. Kudos to Katie Reus for the funny, touching shower scene.
I was immediately put off when on the very first page, every member of the opposite sex is eyeing Noah with sexual interest and Erin wanted to claw their eyes out. One of my pet peeves in paranormal romances is when authors make their heroes so widely hot that literally every member of the female sex wants them. And these shameless sluts never care that the heroine is right there.
Erin also wished he would find a woman, and knew that made her fucked up. At least she knew it, because that is fucked up.
The world has feline and lupine shifters, demons, Fae, and vampires. Your usual packed paranormal world. A Council had decided to out their existence to the human world. Pregnant shifters are disappearing. The hero can smell the heroine's lust and need for him. There's a computer genius who can hack and do all their research. They're long-lived, fast-healing, and come with unique scents that make no sense. Erin smells like magnolia and Noah smells like pine and earth. The males are highly protective and possessive so much so that they growl anytime another male comes near the female. They can all sense lies. There are bloodborn vampires who are born naturally and are the most powerful kind. The daywalkers can walk in the day and they're powerful as well. Their eyes turn red when they're feeding or feral or mad. Sex makes the Fae more powerful. Brenna has healing powers as well as the ability to throw lightning.
His dad made a comment about the last time Noah had gotten into a bar fight there was a woman involved. Noah felt Erin stiffen and thought it was interesting. Oh goody, the hero taking delight in the heroine's jealousy.
I liked that Noah had draped his jacket over her and snarled at everyone who came near, even his alpha. And when they fought the 4 vampires they both looked at the other to see if they were injured. One of the male vampires asked Noah if he let his female speak for him and he said his female took his ass down in seconds and it's the 21st century and she can do what she wants.
I didn't care for Brianna the Fae woman learning about sexuality from Angelo. She'd given him her virginity and she took her top off to have sex with him before they left. The author cut it off before anything happened but it severely bothers me when there's split POV and the side characters get more action than the main characters.
We didn't even find out Erin had lost her baby two weeks before she was due until pg. 103. And not because Erin was thinking about it, because she told Noah's mom right in front of him. How would that thought have never crossed her mind and how could she just announce it to another person in front of him? Way to drop a bombshell.
She kept using the phrase "have a pulse on it." About 5 times. She even had the POV of the bad guys.
Erin and Noah had already kissed several times before the book started. I had apparently missed out on so much coming in to this one first, and it felt like I had to read the others to know what was going on.
The night he found out she'd been pregnant, they got into the car to leave the house and he unbuttoned her pants and used his fingers on her. Completely the wrong time for that when she's grieving the loss of her baby and consoling a shifter who just lost her baby. That's the problem when you have too much of a violent case to solve and so little romance. What little romance there is is jarring and uncomfortable.
They had a human woman who could locate pregnant shifters somehow. Oddly, they knew Erin and her abilities but didn't know was the Enforcer. Weird.
Brianna asked Angelo to wait in the car while she talked with Marcus, and afterward she was going to thank Angelo for it. Imagine, thanking a man for letting you talk to another man! It's infuriating. Of course Angelo kissed her crushingly to "assure his wolf that she was his." Ugh, I am so utterly sick of that.
She said a dirty curse and told him what she wanted him to do to her and the author didn't even write it.
Of course Erin couldn't have been in love with the father of her baby. Of course it wasn't a hot relationship or even love. Of course the baby hadn't been planned and he was an asshole. If a heroine experiences love and good sex before the hero then she's a big hoe. She didn't love him, wanted the safe option, and he was selling vampire blood so he was a criminal. She threatened to tell their alpha and he beat her up and caused her to lose the baby.
Ian's screen name was biteme. It was funny that he wrote in anecdotes about each suspect and said LaPomeret was a goat-f'ing piece of shit and Noah wanted to make him mad enough to attack him so they would have cause to retaliate so he asked if he'd ever f'ed a goat because he heard he liked it that way. He also had only said his first name when LaPomeret asked and not his last, and as they were leaving Noah said By the way, my last name is Campbell, you stupid fuck.
They've known each other for over a year.
We didn't learn until pg. 223 the name of her past lover, or that his brother had helped beat her up. It is so massively unrealistic and ridiculous that Chris never let on that Erin was his girlfriend and he'd gotten her pregnant and that he was trying to kill her now. There was absolutely no acknowledgement that he even knew her personally much less that he'd ever had sex with her and beat her to within an inch of her life. Are you kidding me?!? What kind of lazy, half-assed writing is that? I can't STAND books that keep MAJOR details about the main characters a secret for the sake of a surprise.
Noah wasn't tough enough. Erin did almost all the driving and talking. Noah just piped in here and there. I didn't know what being an Enforcer really meant since this is the first I've read.
She thought he would eventually want a softer woman. He found her strength hot and could never be with a beta.
It was funny when they were at the place the pregnant shifters were being kept and Noah asked if she wanted to play good cop, bad cop and he took the bad cop role and left the good cop for Erin. The guy spit in her face though so she said guess this is going to be bad cop, bad cop. To get him to talk she promised neither she nor Noah would hurt him, but she handed him over to Hector, the bar owner whose sister had been taken. She told him she'd promised the human they wouldn't hurt him and she keeps her promises so she's handing him over to Hector.
It was cool that while about to attack Chris and Malcom and LaPomeret, Noah held up two fingers and then made a V to show that two vampires were guarding the house, then held up his fist to show there were 0 others.
Nex pugna is a death match between alphas.
We didn't officially learn until pg. 271 that she couldn't ever have kids. She'd been having thoughts that Noah deserved someone who could give him a family but she didn't actually come out and say it, until now when she acknowledged that Chris had taken away her baby and chance to ever have another kid.
His gave her his shirt to wear and Noah was jealous that another man's scent was on her even though it was his own dad's who'd been mated for centuries. Ugh, I'm so sick of that I want to throw up and/or hit something.
They didn't have sex until pg. 291 of 354. I hate that. It's a major pet peeve when it takes so long for the characters to have sex because this is a ROMANCE. There's definitely not enough romance in here and a romance with little sex is never gonna be a good book to me.
There's mated and the concept of bondmates. Bonding means nothing but death can separate them and they'll be telepathic with each other. But mated couples can still walk away and the mating scent will fade.
It was a nice moment when Brianna was packed to leave and Angelo said she could stay or ask him to go with her.
For their second time Noah thought that in the few days since it had been since they'd had sex for the first time, they'd been in every possible position and Erin had given him a blow job. Hello, how can you skip over all of that??
It was cute when after they bonded Erin mentally said "Testing, testing" to him. I liked the bond mark they get after they bond.
I didn't care about Leila the teenage prodigy being almost as good as Erin and training to become an Enforcer. Ugh, I can't stand that.
I like for the last chapter to be a happy ending between the main characters. Noah wasn't even in the chapter to last with Erin; she was surrounded by others and he was away working, and the very last chapter was a bad human who a vampire killed, presumably one of a very large list of side characters from a previous novel that went unexplained. No.
It felt like every other paranormal romance I've ever read. Boringly unoriginal, offers absolutely nothing unique or even halfway interesting. In a sea of PR this blends in and no effort was made to make it stand out. Too much of the case and side POVs and not enough romance and communication, too many characters period. It took way too long for things to come out and for that moment and it was too little too late. Some moments are funny and nice lines but on the whole it's too unoriginal and offers nothing new.

So now this one is my favorite book of the series.
This romance was the most interesting and well-developed so far. I also rather liked both Noah and Erin, so that helped. Erin so far is my favorite heroine of this series and seems to have the most interesting backstory as well. She was a perfect blend of strong and vulnerable. I also really liked Noah because he accepted Erin for who she was and while protective, wasn’t restrictive.
I liked that there was more incorporation of different species, but I hope there’ll be more development into the different species and worldbuilding in the later books.
The suspense was pretty well-done, but I felt that the ending was a bit anticlimactic. I’m glad that Erin was depicted as a powerful Enforcer, but still… she managed to take down several very ancient and powerful bloodborn vampires. In the future books with vampires, are they just going to be portrayed as weaker than much younger shifter enforcers?
I was intrigued by the vampires Ian and Marcus and their connection to Brianna. I also really liked Brianna and Angelo together and wish there had been more scenes of the two of them.
Overall, I rather liked this book and I’m getting more invested in the series as a whole.

A year ago, Noah found Erin behind a dumpster, beaten and close to death. He knew then she was his, but he kept the knowledge to himself. A year later he is assisting Erin, now an enforcer for the North American Councils of Lupine Shifters. Pregnant shifters are going missing in New Orleans, the territory of Noah’s father. NOLA is home to a myriad of paranormals – shifters, vamps and more. Erin and Noah know they need to tread carefully, but time is running out to find the missing women and discover just who is behind the abductions and why.
Ms. Reus is great at writing strong women characters. Despite some PTSD issues Erin carries from her attack, she’s confident in a fight, smart and able to hold her own. The relationship with Noah works because he understands her. His protective instincts are in high gear, but he keeps them well in check. He lets her take the lead in the field. The underlying need he has for her is always there, though and adds an extra layer to the story.
Whether it’s romantic suspense or paranormal romance, Katie Reus creates characters that are interesting and engaging, that have both strength and empathy, characters I would love to get to know better. Her stories hit the ground running and gain traction and intensity quickly. Once started they don’t stop. This book is no exception and is a wonderful addition to the series.
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for a copy of this book. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
We finally get the new enforcer Erin’s story and discover why Connor’s Pack found her how they did and what happened😢 But first she is sent to New Orleans with Noah to find our why pregnant shifters are being kidnapped…and while they are there, trying to both navigate the feelings they have for each other. Combined with this, Noah is also trying to avoid his feelings where his father is concerned…who just so happens to be the Alpha of New Orleans😳
There is a second couple that appear in this book, Brianna, the Fianna Warrior and Angelo. They go to New Orleans with Erin and Noah and aid in the investigation😁 I really enjoyed this story and discovering more about each couple. I’m looking forward to reading more and finding out what happens next❣️ I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review😍
I really enjoyed this addition to Katie's Moon Shifter series. It featured two couples - so a two-for-one-romance. One of the couples included a fae. The plot was interesting and suspenseful. I had to stop a few times and take a few breaths before continuing. Highly recommend.
I thought this story was not perfect but it was entertaining and is perfect when you're looking for pure entertainment. The character's story was completely immersive and their romance was so much fun to read. Overall the book was wonderful and so much fun to read when you're looking to just get away.
Note: While this review will be spoiler free, it may make reference to previous books in the series.
Pregnant shifters are being kidnapped in New Orleans and, as the newest Enforcer for the North American Council, Erin has been sent down to investigate. Eager to prove herself, Erin isn’t going to let anything get in the way for rescuing these girls, whether it be her past or her doomed attraction to Noah. But The Big Easy is vastly different from Fontana, and to get to the truth Erin and Noah will need to play nice with various supernatural factions.
Ever since the night he found her beaten nearly to death, Noah knows he’s found his mate. He’s sure Erin feels it too, but after what she’s been through, he’s not going to push. Doesn’t mean he isn’t going to make sure she’s protected and supported running this investigation. Where she goes, he goes. Even when it means facing a past, and his father—the Alpha of New Orleans—that’s he’s been avoiding for years.
Little do they know just how much this case will dreg up those pasts.
Erin and Noah have been simmering in the background since book one, the complicated magnetism of these two obvious even with just fleeting glimpses, so I was eager to find out what’s really been going on.
The plot of Avenger’s Heat is actually very clever. Not only does it totally deliver a complex mystery and let us explore this supernatural world outside of Fontana, but it also actually brings up personal issues for our protagonists at every step. This forces them to work through things gradually, building a really solid and deep connection within the romance.
Not much had been revealed about the events that lead to Erin being left for dead, but it’s always been obvious it was horrific. She may have somewhat healed physically, but as the story progresses we begin to understand just how deep the emotional scars and lasting effects go. She doesn’t deny her chemistry with Noah, but she’s convinced she’s not what Noah wants or needs. She’s very self-sufficient and I liked that it felt true to her character that it takes time to open up, to trust Noah enough to feel vulnerable.
I heart Noah. He knows what he wants and he’s willing to do everything to show Erin he’s there no matter what. I loved the fact he respected her strength, her role as enforcer and is there to back her up rather than take over. He’s certainly frustrated at times, not fully understanding her reservations, but I never doubted how much he cared. He’s built his own walls up though, especially concerning his family, and watching these two navigate one another, to open up and heal together, was a beautifully layered story.
You wanna know something else awesome in Avenger’s Heat? It’s actually a romantic twofer! While the UST (unresolved sexual tension) burns the pages between Erin and Noah (boy, does it burn), a less complicated relationship is brewing between Fae warrior Brianna and pack member Angelo that deepens as they work together. I definitely appreciated the romantic fix while Erin and Noah circled each other.
Avenger’s Heat hits the ground running and never lets up, whether that be in the action, well constructed plot or the sexual chemistry between the characters. This is a story of strength, of partnership and healing, and it does it brilliantly. I can’t stress enough what a fantastic paranormal series this is, delivering on every level, this installment included.
Erin is on her first enforcer assignment when everything starts hitting close to home for her. Her mission is to track down the scumbags who are kidnapping pregnant shifters. She's not sure why they are taking them but when one shows up near dead, it's a race against the clock to get those woman out of there. However, soon she realizes that she has to overcome her past in order to take care of the present.
Erin is a character that we met earlier on who was rescued by Noah and other members of the pack. She was found bloody and barely alive behind a dumpster. She hasn't told anyone what happened to her but once everything starts rushing back with the kidnappings and disposal of the women. However, she's able to handle it all with Noah by her side. There is something about him that calms both her human and her wolf.
Noah was an amazing supporting character. With Erin being an enforcer, he knows it's her job to take charge and throw herself into harms way. It's hard for him to remain back and let her take the lead but he knows that she will get no respect from the shifter community if she's shown as weak or unable to take care of business. I really liked that he wasn't your typical alpha who was always proving their strength to others by defending their woman and getting into fights. His strength was more subtle in the fact that he wanted to do all those things for his mate, but he knew she could handle herself.
I like that even though this is a paranormal romance, the author has some gruesome scenes between the battles and when they find the women. The fact that the author added that extra element and showed how things are brewing for the shifters really helped make this story whole. A lot of times I find that the romance overshadows the storyline or the author rushes through the climatic scene to the happy ever after. I was very happy that the author took the time to really write out the final fight scene. She didn't just *BOOM you're dead*, she gave the reader a scene that had me holding my breath waiting to see what happened next.
This is an amazing series. I've loved every book so far. We always read about the main characters but the author also includes pov's from the villains and from secondary characters who sometimes see their own novel down the road. Like I said, Erin was introduced earlier on and her chemistry with Noah has been brewing from the start. So even though this can be read as a stand alone, after all it had been a while since I'd read the previous books, it's nice reading the whole series since these are characters that you know and have fallen in love with who are now getting their time in the spotlight.
Title: Avenger's Heat Series: Moon Shifter Book # Author: Katie Reus Genre: Paranormal/Romance Blurb: To truly have her, he must free her from her dark secret....Enforcer Erin Flynn has dedicated her life to protecting her kind. But keeping her heart safe from Noah Campbell, the smoking-hot shifter who saved her life last year, is more difficult. The deadly beauty would love to sink into his arms and become his mate, but she knows she can’t—he must never know about her dark past. When Erin is sent to investigate the disappearances of pregnant shifters in New Orleans, Erin and Noah find themselves involved in a mystery more sinister than anyone expected. The people who wanted her dead in the first place are trying to finish the job, and Noah wants nothing more than to shield her from harm. But can Erin truly trust Noah and let him see the wounded beast she’s hidden for so long? Thoughts: I absolutely loved Avenger's Heat! For those of who have not followed the series, I thought this one was fairly easy to follow along with, and that it's capable of being read as a stand alone novel. Of course, if you've followed the series, you get a little more of a background on the tension and attraction between Noah, so this is one of the books that really make this series! I know that for me, this is the book I have been waiting for since book #1 of this series, and it does not disappoint. You're finally given more answers about what exactly happened to Erin and the circumstances surrounding how she was found and brought into the pack. You also get to see things between Erin and Noah come to fruition, and I enjoyed how well this whole book unfolded. It also has a level emotion that is a bit different from those in previous books, as this one deals with missing pregnant shifters. My advice - Don't miss this one! This is one of my favorites in the series and well worth the wait! Rate: A Review by: Sarah http://www.thebookreadinggals.com
Avenger's Heat is book 4 of the Moon Shifter series and it delivered! We finally get Erin and Noah's HEA and it was sweet and sexy. Erin, the newest enforcer for the North American Council of lupine shifters, is in New Orleans on her first assignment. With Noah by her side she is tasked with finding who is kidnapping pregnant shifters and why. As Erin gets more involved in the case, she also gets more attached to Noah. Can she solve this mystery, admit to herself how important Noah is to her, and yet protect her heart if he turns her away?
We also see the romance blossoming between Brianna, the Fae warrior, and Angelo, wolf shifter and Noah and Erin's pack mate, both who are helping out on the pregnant shifter case.
Avenger's Heat is packed with suspense, romance, plot twists, and edge of your seat action. And, the ending is... well, let's just say, I can't wait for the next book in this series!
I loved Erin and Noah's story! It is very emotional. Erin's past is terrible. 😪She got hurt by an ex-lover and he tried to kill her. Noah found her and saved her. He wants to mate with her but she has other ideas because she feels she is not good enough. There is a secret she has not tell him and is not sure if she wants to. When Erin and Noah travel to New Orleans her past is coming back! Erin is so much stronger than she think. Noah really loves her! 😍💜❤️And he accept her secret when she finally tells him. I'm happy I have a signed copy of Avenger's Heat! This is one of my favorite books by Katie.
Bummer. I'm done with this series. This was a typical revenge type plot. There was no real storyline to this book, no humor, no romance, and it was easy to put down if I needed to wash the dishes. Sometimes I found my mind wandering to things like "Maybe I'll go after the dust bunnies under the bed". This book didn't hold my interest at all; it was so far away from the previous books that there seemed like a disconnect with the older characters.
Avenger's Heat is for sure the best book in this series so far. The action kicks off form the very first pages of the book and it stays like that till the very end. The past of Erin is just so heartbreaking and her with Noah make just perfect couple. Although i do have to admit that i liked Brianna and Angelo a lot more, while reading i was just waiting for more moments of them. I can't wait to pick up the next book of the series and i hope we get to see some more of Brianna and Angelo couple.
Another really good addition to this series. I really enjoyed Erin and Noah and I loved when the gloves came off and Noah went after Erin with a vengeance. I also really enjoyed the side story with Angelo and Briannna I really hope we get more from them.
Erin is on her first solo assignment as an enforcer for the council. She doesn’t believe she will find love with anyone because of her past. Noah knows Erin is his mate, but he is happy to be with her in any way she allows him. He knows she has reasons for keeping him at arm’s length. When they are sent to New Orleans to investigate a number of bad things happening in town their feelings finally lead them to act on them. Will they finally become the mated couple they are meant to be or will they remain firmly in the friend zone? Noah has to deal with some family tension and come to terms with his own actions and their consequences. I like how the author dealt with Noah returning to the area his family controls. It explains a lot about Noah and his choices to be part of another pack. Erin has a pretty heartbreaking backstory. The author seamlessly wove Erin’s story in with the reason they are in New Orleans. I felt like Noah and Erin earned their relationship by the end. I thought the author made a good choice to introduce more information about the paranormal world. I’m looking forward to learning more in future stories. I’m still not sure how a person as small as Erin is also the strongest and fastest individual in a fight. I had trouble picturing her being the winner when she was up against bad odds. I do like that the author was clear that as Erin gets older and gets more practice she will become very strong. This is a paranormal romance with mystery and danger elements. It takes place primarily in New Orleans. This story includes a storyline about pregnant women being abducted for nefarious reasons. It might be upsetting to some readers. I didn’t think this installment packed the emotional punch of the prior stories which surprised me given the topics included in the story. I still thought the story was very enjoyable and well written. I will read more from this author in the future.
Avenger's Heat is the 4th book in the Moon Shifter series and we already know Erin and Noah since the first book.
Sent to New Orleans for her first solo assignment as the newest enforcer for the North American Council, Erin is eager to prove herself. Pregnant women are disappearing and Erin and her team are tasked with finding out by whom and to stop the culprits. Nothing is going to stop her from doing her job, not even Noah, the pack member who saved her when she was nearly beaten to death and left behind a dumpster.
Noah has known ever since rescuing Eric that she's his mate. Unfortunately she keeps pushing him away even though he knows she's got feelings for him too. He's been patiently waiting but as they dig deeper into the ongoing case and he finds how how it's related to Erin's past, all bets are off and he goes into protective battle mode. He'll stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves.
Both MC's were wonderful characters. I loved how patiently Noah was, he respected her role as enforcer, never wanted to take over and just showed her how much he trusted her. Erin was also there for Noah when she sees how much he struggles with his feelings for his family as they are in the city where his father is the Alpha of the New Orleans pack.
What was also wonderful, was that we had a secondary romance going on the background. Brianna, the fae warrior we met in a previous book and Nikan, a member of Noah's pack are sent in as reinforments to Erin and Noah. The chemistry between the both is off the charts and it's was lovely to say their romance.
This series is getting better with every book and I can't wait to read the next story.
*I kindly received a copy of this book by Bookfunnel and this is my honest review.*
First I would like to thank Author Collective 20 for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the story of Erin, newest enforcer for the North American shifter Council, and Noah, member of the Armstong-Cordona pack and Erin's savior. When Erin is given her first enforcer assignment they send her with Noah as the investigation is in New Orleans, Noah's hometown and father's territory. As they work together to figure out who is kidnapping pregnant shifters they both are forced to deal with issues from the past and their growing attraction for each other.
What I Loved: - Trauma, Erin has lived through a LOT of trauma and I just liked how she was able to actually face it including telling Noah everything - New Orleans, I loved that the city was a bit of a haven for all supernatural beings who live in more or less harmony since it really represents the city as a whole - Brianna, as a fae I just enjoy the perspective of another type of being throughout the story as she is not only helping but building a relationship with her own shifter, Angelo - Noah, he is a warrior shifter that has cared for Erin from the first day they met and is willing to to just about anything she needs to feel in control except deny her feelings for him and their connection
Overall this was a great addition to an already good romantic suspense series. It has all the best elements with big city drama, new shifters, interesting mystery and a slow burn romance that I couldn't get enough of. If you are in the market for a shifter romance with unique paranormal elements, great characters, suspense and a redemption arc then I would absolutely recommend this book.
Picking up a Katie Reus book is a no brainer for me, and Avenger's Heat didn't disappoint. This fourth book in the Moon Shifter series (there are a couple of novellas too) is my favorite so far, and I think it's because I love both Erin and Noah and have been waiting a while for their story. That said, while it can read fine as a standalone, the characters—many of whom are secondary characters outside of whichever book is theirs—can be hard to keep straight. There's also frequently a subplot connected to another couple, so that's even more to remember. Here, we have fae Brianna and shifter Angelo.
Erin's tragic backstory has been teased throughout the series, so there was the potential of it being overpromised but underdelivered. For the most part, it is well handled, though I think I expected a little more there. And while I think we're supposed to see it as a roadblock to her and Noah's happiness, it never really seems like one at all.
This series is actually one that Reus published about a decade ago and is revising and rereleasing. To that end, it may lack a little of the... complexity?... found in her newer novels. But it's still good and definitely with the read.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
I have read many Katie Reus books from several of her series, all action packed, page turners with fantastic characters. However, I came late to the game in the series and read this as a stand alone. But no problem. It was easy to fill in the blanks.
There are two new couples in this book, though I inferred that they were in earlier books. Noah, currently of the Armstrong-Cordona pack, had found Erin Flynn the previous year, badly beaten and close to death, behind a dumpster and she was adopted in by the pack. He knew she was destined to be his mate, but he has been giving her time to heal. Now she is the newest enforcer of the North American shifter Council, and has been sent on assignment to New Orleans to investigate the disappearance of pregnant sifters. Noah is sent with her. His father is the Alpha shifter of New Orleans and they have been estranged. Briana, a fae, and Angelo a shifter have also been sent to investigate. By the time the complicated investigation is complete, there are 2 new couples, a bunch of dead shifters and vamps, a family reconciliation and a new case for Book 5.
The characters are likeable, the plot intriguing and the dialogue engaging. If you like fast paced, page turning fantasy, then you want to grab this book. I read an Advanced Reaser's Copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.com. This is my honest, non bias and voluntary review.
Erin has been trying to hold Noah at arm's length ever since he saved her life a year ago. Their feelings for each other have been steadily growing and he's convinced that she's meant to be his mate, but she knows she can never be the one he deserves. As an enforcer on her first assignment, she's tasked with finding whoever's been kidnapping pregnant shifters in New Orleans and it becomes even more difficult to avoid Noah when he's assigned to go with her. Especially when the case ties to her secret past and his protective instincts kick in. Erin has become such a strong character since the previous book when she was found beaten near to death. I enjoyed reading how she worked through her first case and followed the clues to find the culprits. Her past was heartbreaking and I love how Noah accepts her for exactly who she is. The action starts out from the first page, the pacing of the story was good, and the tension between Erin and Noah kept me turning pages to see why she kept turning him down. I'm so happy for their HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
New enforcer Erin Flynn has joined the Armstrong-Cordona pack and is being trained by Jayce, the lead enforcer for the council. He assigns her and Noah Campbell to a case in New Orleans where pregnant female shifters have gone missing. Returning to New Orleans is difficult for her as she was beaten and left for dead by the one who she thought loved her. Travelling along is Brianna who is with the Fianna Fae and Angelo, a member of the pack. As the foursome foil a plot to kidnap another female, Erin believes she recognizes the scent. It is a scent she knew she would never forget, the scent of someone who she knows will want her dead. She is no longer the untrained shifter, but is faster and more lethal. She will take great satisfaction of bringing him down. As they work together, the intimacy between she and Noah cannot be denied, but will he still want her when he learns her secret that she has never divulged to anyone? Another great addition to this series! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this one. Erin is one tough cookie! I love her character. She has been through so much yet she still has a soft, vulnerable side. Don’t tell her I said that though lol. As a new enforcer it is her job to be strong and bada$$ which she is amazing at whether in human or wolf form. And Noah, well that sexy wolf wants all of her. A powerful alpha, he and Erin have been partners at work and make a great team. But he loves her and wants her as his mate and will not stop until he has her. Even though she has feelings for him, she is holding back because she fears he will not want her if he knows everything about her. I like how their love story rides shotgun to the heinous things happening to the pregnant shifters in New Orleans and they manage to still be locked in on their jobs and finding the bad guys but are getting closer at the same time. Everything going on totally ropes you in from finding the kidnapper/killers to the anticipation of a mating between Noah and Erin. Very entertaining!
