WOW. To say that I loved this one would be an understatement. First off, let me just commend Lisa Suzanne on writing a romance the way that I wish more were written, with loads of anticipation and build up! So many books these days jump right into the main characters getting it on. I LOVE the sexual tension build up, especially the little moments where you ask yourself 'okay is this it, are they going to finally kiss?'.
Characters - LOVED them. Hello, can I please have a Jesse Drake? I mean seriously, he's a hot high school guidance counselor with an amazing, mysterious tattoo down his torso. Veronica (or "V" as Jesse calls her - SWOON) - high five to her! When you know a marriage just isn't going to work, no matter how hard you try, you've got to call it quits. She earned major brownie points with me when, knowing that her family wouldn't approve, decided that it was over. Oh and the "soon to be ex" Richard - BLAH - douche central.
Story - PERFECT. Victoria decides that she's finally going to call it quits with her marriage. She's tried to make it work but there is just no saving it. No, there was no infidelity or anything like that, they just grew apart and ultimately fell out of love. After a night out at happy hour with fellow teachers from school, she spills everything to hottie Jesse Drake. He's super supportive of everything and even offers her a place to crash until she gets things figured out.
The sexual tension is immediate, and I loved it. Time and time again I just kept wondering when they were going to give in.
"I felt my body automatically leaning in toward his lips As I gazed into his eyes and the space between us disappeared, I saw his eyes flick own to my lips for just a second. I closed my eyes and tilted my head towards his, eagerly anticipating the feel of his lips against mine.
And then the mother f****** son of a b**** oven timer started beeping."
(had to put the *'s in there so Amazon would let me post it!)
I love a book that has me all hot and bothered with sexual anticipation one second and laughing my butt off the next and that's just what I got from Separation Anxiety.
"I suck out [of the shower] stealthily and found the drawer that I had decided would be my delicates drawer just the day before. I opened it and bent over it, leafing thorugh to find a pair of white panties that wouldn't show through my light khaki pants.
'I brought you some orange ju-' Jesse's voice startled me, causing me, of course, to drop my f****** towel as I jumped and turned around at his voice.
He stood in the doorway with a glass of orange juice in his hand, admiration in his eyes, and a wicked smiled gracing those perfect lips.
'Well, he said, his voice low and raspy and breathtakingly sensual as his eyes moved appreciatively down the full frontal show he was getting. 'Good morning to you, too.'"
The ending was perfect - just perfect. Exactly what I would have wanted for Veronica and Jesse.
This one gets 5 stars, if it were possible, I'd give it more. Will totally be recommending this one to everyone I know!
