"Sometimes I think I am Judy Moody," says Megan McDonald, author of the Judy Moody series, the Stink series, and THE SISTERS CLUB. "I'm certainly moody, like she is. Judy has a strong voice and always speaks up for herself. I like that."

For Megan McDonald, being able to speak up for herself wasn't always easy. She grew up as the youngest of five sisters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her father, an ironworker, was known to his coworkers as "Little Johnny the Storyteller." Every evening at dinner the McDonalds would gather to talk and tell stories, but Megan McDonald was barely able to get a word in edgewise. "I'm told I began to stutter," she says, leading her mother to give her a notebook so she could start "writing things down."

Critically acclaimed, the Judy Moody books have won numerous awards, ranging from a PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Best Book of the Year to an International Reading Association Children's Choice. "Judy has taken on a life of her own," the author notes, with nearly 3 million Judy Moody books in print. Interestingly, the feisty third-grader is highly popular with boys and girls, making for a strong base of fans who are among Megan McDonald's strongest incentives to keep writing, along with "too many ideas and a little chocolate." And now -- by popular demand -- Judy Moody's little brother, Stink, gets his chance to star in his own adventures! Beginning with STINK: THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING KID, three more stories, and his own encyclopedia, STINK-O-PEDIA, Stink's special style comes through loud and strong -- enhanced by a series of comic strips, drawn by Stink himself, which are sprinkled throughout the first book. About the need for a book all about Stink, Megan McDonald says, "Once, while I was visiting a class full of Judy Moody readers, the kids, many with spiked hair à la Judy's little brother, chanted, 'Stink! Stink! Stink! Stink! Stink!' as I entered the room. In that moment, I knew that Stink had to have a book all his own."

More recently, Megan McDonald has recalled some of her own childhood with the warmth, humor -- and squabbles -- of three spunky sisters in THE SISTERS CLUB.

Megan McDonald and her husband live in Sebastopol, California, with two dogs, two adopted horses, and fifteen wild turkeys that like to hang out on their back porch.

Can Judy Moody make it through an entire week of Good Mood Days (GMDs)? When she feels the need to ROAR, she lets her fingers get to work. Knit, knit, knit. A skein a day keeps the bad mood away. J and I are determined to learn how to finger knit like Judy. When I go visit next month I am taking a ball of rainbow yarn along. Should be fun!

When we finished reading about Judy's week, we each chose our favorite chapters. J chose 'Spaghetti Yeti' with little brother Stink trying to learn to finger knit. It is a little tricky since he is also wearing his squid tentacle gloves.🦑Mouse, the cat, gets all tangled up in the knitting chain and it looks like King Kong's plate of spaghetti. My favorite was 'Judy Un-Moody' with Judy taking her giant ball of finger knitting to school for the Measure Up unit in math class. Class 3T will be amazed when they find out how long that chain of rainbow-yarn is.🌈

Up next: Judy Moody and the Bucket List.

I have now read 30 books between Jody Moody, Stink Moody and Judy Moody & Stink books. That says a lot for the ability of Megan McDonald and Peter H. Reynolds to tell a story. And to be honest this is one of my favourites out of all of them. Jody seems to be maturing, even though she is in the same class, with the same friends and the same teacher, in this book there is more to appreciate and respect.

In all of the books Judy or Stink learn a lesson, they grow of change but in this one Judy work really hard at not being moody. She develops techniques to help herself not have explosions. She is making changes. In fact Judy's changes are so complete that her brother and her closes friends begin to wonder if she has been replaced by a pod person and is not the Judy they know and love. This leads to some interesting encounters. As usual with the Moody's something always goes wrong and something very interesting always happens.

As someone with 3 young children, Judy's example in this book is awesome. It is a great little story and an awesome edition to the Moody canon. And in other exciting news there is a new series out shorter books in the new Judy Moody and Friends series.

Read the review on my blog Book Reviews and More and reviews of other books by McDonald and Reynolds.

This book was so funny. If you have read other Judy Moody books. You will know that Judy is very crazy in her own way. In this book she has opposite day at her school which is her favorite day at school.she challenges herself to be like her perfect friend at school who she thinks is very annoying. So after that day she desides to do it for a week! And her friends test her to see if she is an alien. Soon everyone thinks she is an alien. Will she finish the week or stop because it's to much? :) Happy reading I hope you like my review.

Judy Moody Mood Martian is an entertaining book that children will enjoy reading. The story revolves around Judy Moody and her struggles to stay in a good mood. The concept of the backward day is intriguing, and the fact that Judy is normal on this day adds a unique twist to the story.

The idea of taking up a challenge to stay in a good mood for one whole week is also interesting, and it teaches children the importance of having a positive attitude. The finger knitting aspect of the book is a great addition, as it not only provides an exciting activity for kids but also shows them how to cope with negative feelings.

The humor in the book is evident through the description of Judy's school pictures, and it adds a lighthearted touch to the story. Overall, the book was well-written and engaging, with valuable lessons about staying positive and finding ways to overcome negative emotions.

I would highly recommend Judy Moody Mood Martian to children who enjoy reading about relatable characters and situations and want to learn how to handle their emotions healthily. This book is a great addition to any child's library and will be sure to entertain them from start to finish.

Judy Moody: Mood Martian by Megan McDonald is the best novel yet. In this tale, I got to watch Judy Moody show a different side to herself than her usual self. In fact, her family started to think she wasn't really Judy...at all. The change was pleasant and welcoming.

Judy Moody is a young girl who has a wild imagination and a good heart. She wants to be good, but her plans always went wrong. There was always a big oops, somewhere if not everywhere she went.

I was surprised by how much Judy changed and grew up. Her personality is still creative as ever. I laughed a lot. Her and Stink will always be my favorite two characters in this series.

Judy Moody: Mood Martian is about Judy trying not to be her usual Moody self. Readers familiar with the series all know how moody Judy Moody can get at times. Her ways of accomplishing not being moody was interesting! I definitely recommend this book story to all. Judy did make a lot of boo boos as usual, but she somehow ended up at the top. I liked the themes and the new adventure presented. The illustrations were great. They went well with each chapter. Overall, I highly recommend this book to readers everywhere.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

It’s Backwards Day and Judy decides that she’s not going to get into a mood at all; she’s going to be good, clean and tidy. After one day of it she decides to challenge herself to go a whole week without getting into a mood. Once she sets her goal in motion her friends and brother start to think she’s an alien. This novel was fun, and really made learning fun. No matter what Judy seems to get herself into, it’s always super pleasant to read. McDonald has really created a character that has so many sides and she just walks off the page. Not only is she relatable to her younger audience, but her older audience too. The plots also never get old; even though it’s the same characters each book McDonald has a way to make every novel fresh and exciting that it feels like readers will never get tired of reading her stories.

It was a fine book but I only read it because I’ve had this book for over 7 years. I got this at the beginning of 3rd grade and I moved away and the teacher wrote me a note on the back of the front cover and gave it to me as a going away gift. I’ve just held on to it and started getting more involved with reading in 5/6th grade and that’s when I started like actually getting books. I still had this. On the 5th of December when I started this, it was my birthday but really didn’t really wanna read the book I was currently reading so I started this. I’m a fast reader usually but for this, it took me a while to read it. Not sure what to rate it cause I only read it to have read it but wasn’t really paying attention to how good it was.

Judy Moody celebrates Backwards day at school by being the complete opposite of the way she normally acts. She finds that being nice and friendly is not all that bad. The problem is that her friends and brother think she's been turned into an alien because she is not herself. Judy finger knitted to help herself to keep from getting into one of her moods and she ends up with a very large ball of knitted yarn that she uses in her math class to help them with their Measure Up unit. It ends up being a hit at the school and which makes Judy happy. A cute story!
I got this for free in a Goodreads Giveaway.

This is one of my more favorite books from this series! I loved the reference to Antarctica in Judy's classroom as a physical place in the room where kids go to "cool off" when having a difficult time. I also appreciated Judy's choice to maintain a positive mood and her strategy of asking others what they do to keep positive. I think it was a fun idea for her "finger knit" as a way to manage her moods and I thought the ending, incorporating her love of finger knitting, was great!

Judy Moody took Backwards Day to a WHOLE OTHER level! I was actually said to see her trying SO HARD to be someone she's not...you know, much less moody. At the same time, her self initiated test of her determination and reserve helped her to grow, leaving us with a Moody more in control, but still the wild haired, crazy idea filled girl we know and love.

What a yarn! But sadly I'm not 6 or 7 years old anymore and was yarned out about halfway through (but I did continue through to the cute ending). I'll pass the book along to a niece or two and see what they think.

This is a great book for kids just starting to read chapter books. Judy Moody dares herself to be in a good mood for a certain amount of time, and her friends think she is an alien because of it! They truly don't recognize her. I enjoyed reading this book!

I have to love a book that's all about finger knitting, but it also manages to be a good story about to how to manage your emotions (literally) constructively.
