Akira has been kidnapped, so Nozomu and Misoka go to rescue him---only for it to turn into an all-out battle. Mahiru would like to help, but the situation is so far out of her control. After everything is resolved, Mahiru's class is taking their school trip. Mahiru wants to use that opportunity to get to know Mitsuru more, but her enemies are waiting in the most unexpected places.

This volume had some really baffling moments. The whole breaking-Akira-out sequence was full of facepalm pages like the bad guys nicely asking Misoka to join Akira and Nozomu, and he does. Which then predictably turns into a trap that has now caught all three of them. I could possibly understand if they were stupid because they were kids, but the implication has been that Mitsuru is the new guy, and the other three have at least some experience with the whole phantom thief thing.

Also the bad guys come across as very much one-note racists who hate the Lunar race for merely being the Lunar race. The deaths mentioned are never specified (and almost certainly weren't from the current members we've seen, unless they're a lot older than they look), so it's difficult to tell if the most angry one is merely a fanatic or actually did lose someone personally. The only real complexity on their side continues to be Keiko, who looks to be participating only due to blackmail.

Also Mitsuru is still the only one with any sort of character growth from the Lunar race. Akira, despite the whole kidnapping arc kinda being about him, really is as much of a blank slate after as he was before. He's cheerful and likes festivals. There really isn't any sense of a goal, or an interesting backstory about how he joined, or anything that might flesh him out a bit more. So instead of a story about all four of them, it continues to feel hyper-focused on only Mitsuru and how his relationship with Mahiru is changing him.

Overall this continues to be decently interesting, although not exactly great. I rate this book Recommended.

The pacing is just so off. It feels like it’s similar to Fruits Basket but without the time to let the characters develop more natural connections.

This wonderful fantasy manga continues to entertain in volume three. In this volume we are introduced to a new group of characters. It's a group that won't bring any joy to the Lunar Race, because their purpose is to destroy the Lunar Race, and get their hands on the Teardrops of the Moon. They are Dawn's Venus! Mahiru and Matsuru's relationship takes an interesting turn. The Lunar Race guard Mihiru while she and her high school class go on a trip. Mihiru's family is buried near the hotel where she is staying. Mihiru takes Matsuru with her to visit her family, including her parents who died when she was very young, and her Grandma who raised her.Mahitu introduces Matsuru as a very special friend, and explains how she is now helping The Lunar Race. It's a special moment in a special manga.

OOOOH it's really starting to get hype??? Are Mitsuru and Mahiru soul linked now or something??? that was kinda...!!!

That was a really exciting volume. Lots of action and drama, Akira doing a weird goofy sword ninja dance, the school trip??? That was adorable but poor Mahiru?? AND THE KISS LMFAOOOO SHE WAS SO EMBARRASSED Mahiru is so me and I love her for it. That's my girl.

Her and Mitsuru's developing dynamic makes me so giddy!! Now that he's being less of a brat he's kind of my favorite. He is so cute!! I really like the whole gang, though -- so, so fun. This series is starting to really grow on me :)

This manga is quite unique compared to the usual supernatural stories I came across from Japan.
Other than a couple of partial nudity scenes in volume 2 and 3 there are no fan service scenes and the storytelling and characters are more like a mix between cartoon characters and "western" manga.
Once I have completed this series I will review all the books.

I'm so happy that some of my old manga have aged just fine. This was cute and I love Mahiru's attempts to befriend Matsuru

Sigh... I really can't decide how I feel about this series.

On one hand, I don't mind it. I enjoy the Lunar race characters and the storyline isn't so awful that I don't like it. But then on the other hand, the main character is REALLY annoying! (she keeps saying she's going to do something to help and not be afraid anymore but then she does jack shit to help and quakes in her boots nonstop. I just want to say "Either make her a strong female lead, or a weak one! Don't make her a weak one who pretends to be strong because that is more obnoxious then just straight up making her a weak one!"), and almost anytime the police get involved in the storyline I get super confused. I can't really tell any of the police characters apart, and they often seem to be talking about super random things that have nothing to do with anything. Perhaps that is poor translation on the translators part, but everything else seems to make sense. It's just whenever they're around I have no idea what's going on.

Then there is the whole "This is essentially Fruits Basket but with astronomy instead of astrology." It is starting to piss me off more and more.

I've been giving the volumes 3 stars because I do enjoy reading them. I'm just about 50/50 in my opinions - 50% enjoying it, 50% aggravated by it.

3 volumes left to go. Let's see what happens next.

Mahiru and the gang encounter the Moonlight Bandits, a group formed solely to eradicate the lunar race, led by the last member of the demon slayer family, Hokuto Koudokui.
With Nozomu, Akira, and Misoka's necks on the line, will Mitsuru show up in time to save them? And if not, what can Mahiru do to help them all by herself?

And as the story progresses, so does Mahiru and Mitsuru's relationship. The difficult situations brought about on the search for the Teardrops of the Moon bringing the two ever closer. Could this be love? Or something even more fragile?

In this book, i really want to strangle the girl, but if she had listen to the other, they would be dead. I am really hope for a relationship because i can see one brewing into there, but i hope it the one that i am cheering for.
