All Paul wanted was a way to earn some money and a place to hide from his past. Working at Nolan’s isolated mountain cabin was never supposed to mean anything more. But as the two men slowly earn each other’s respect, Paul finds himself fighting against emotions he never thought he’d feel again. Emotions that a would-be tough guy can never, ever admit out loud...
A story of two men searching for themselves in the wilderness, and discovering a love only they can understand, ‘Tough Guy’ is Nate Tanner’s novella of raw, realistic m/m romance. This 12,000-word story contains adult situations and is not suitable for minors.
Nate Tanner was born in Iowa in 1980. His Zodiac sign is Gemini. He realized he was gay on the day he turned 18.
After living a freewheeling lifestyle in his 20s, Nate decided to share his experiences with the world by becoming an erotic fiction author. He writes in spare moments at his day job, while by night he can be found prowling the Midwest for cute boys.
This was a really good and unique short. A lot of story was covered well in few pages and I thought the open ending was better than a traditional HEA would have been. So, obviously, if an HEA is a must for you, you will be frustrated. If you are ok with sacrificing the HEA for a more realistic ending, than definitely dive in.
The story is told by and for Paul. The cleansing interlude at Nolan's cabin was perfect for them both.
I thought this book was pretty good, overall. Slow to start, but I was very absorbed in the story by the end. Two hot, secretly gay men become trapped together in a cozy, well-stocked cabin when a blizzard hits. Of course, this forces them to resort to indoor activities as a means to get to know one another. Um, seriously, what's not to like about that set up?
I expected a different ending. I wanted a different ending. The story was very entertaining as well as Paul's imagination. His mind would go off and it was actually pretty cool. I also like them together because they were like two young boys having fun and enjoying each others company. But again, I wanted it to end differently.
I really enjoyed this book. Both main characters are very likeable. It was a shorter book, but was written well. I am more of a fan of HEA endings instead of just leaving it, but would definitely read a second book if one was published. Great job!
