Return to Hidden Mountain…
Lorelei Stewart has always accepted her role as the town tramp's daughter and has earned her fast and loose reputation. She's a hard woman who pays her way and asks for nothing, but times change. Pregnant and overburdened with responsibility, she's given up on men and has a plan to provide her baby with what she never had as a child; a decent home and a loving mother. The old bootlegger, Rollie Roper, needs a caretaker and has room for Lorelei and her coming child; a fair exchange.
Everything's almost perfect until Rollie's long lost nephew, Cob Thornton, turns up with money and plans of his own and those plans don't include the woman living in his house, yet something about Lorelei fascinates him. He begins to see past the cold armor she wears to protect herself from pain and finds a vulnerable and loving woman within. Now all he has to do, with a little help from old and new friends, is convince the pessimistic Lorelei that sometimes, changing times can be a blessing in disguise.

This is definitely another winner for Jacqueline Rhoades. Oh God did I ever cry. My emotions were on edge. I also laughed my ass off. Rhoades is one of those authors who is never rude or crass, but is always real. She develops a scenic world that her readers can visit without ever leaving the comfort of their couch. She presents it in a well and eloquently written manner that will keep you completely immersed throughout. I definitely couldn’t put this book down. I became part of this world and found myself walking, or running, through Hidden Mountain alongside the characters. I also love the brilliant job that Rhoades does with horses and farrier work.

I love how down to earth this little town is. The people stay the same and really grow on you. There is a strength to each of the characters. They stand up for themselves and for those around them without compromising who they are at the core. Sure there are ‘crazies’ but it just adds to the fullness of the town. You really get into the nitty gritty of life through the characters in this one. Rhoades doesn’t present them as perfect individuals, but as real life people who are trying to make the best of what they have. I also love the local ‘twang’ that shines through (and stays consistent in) the dialogue. That’s not to say that everyone speaks the same. It changes from one character to the next, but you can see the regionality of it as well as the consistency from character to character.

Although Rhoades has written this in such a manner that it could easily be read as a standalone, reading Preston’s Mill will give you background on the characters (and it’s a brilliant read too). Will I reread this book? Probably a few dozen times. Am I dying to see what happens next? YES! But the real question is, were this my intro to the author, would I read more? And the answer is a resounding HELLS YEAH!

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

WOW! What a wonderful, touching love story. I loved everything about this book. The characters are well developed and likable. The storyline flows beautifully as the reader watches Lorelei grow emotionally through her connection with the other key characters in this book. Cob is the perfect man to help her learn to trust, and forgive herself for her past. This book is one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever read. If you enjoy love stories based on ‘damaged’ characters, you will not be disappointed with this book. I give this book 5 stars.

Alright review try two...

There are few authors who I enjoy that I will read anything they publish. Ms Rhoades is one of those authors. Even her books that fall outside of the genre's that I normally stick to are a delight to read and Changing Times is no exception.

This is book two in her Hidden Mountain series, her only non-paranormal series. I think that I enjoyed this book even more than the first. Lorelei is a strong woman who has had no one but herself to count on much of her life. She has had to create a barrier to keep others out and herself safe. In her small town she has quite the reputation that wasn't earned, but perhaps fueled a little by her actions or acting to create a persona that was expected of her by much of the town. She had a hard life and was deprived of much while growing up, most tragic of which was the love and security a child deserved. Despite her circumstances she became a smart and good woman who only wished for a family, love and security that had been denied to her. This book starts off where the last ended and Lorelei has found a place where she believes she can carve out a fair and honest life for her and her child that is on the way. She isn't afraid to work for her place and will take nothing from anyone. Then Cob shows up and turns her life upside down and she feels her security and place slipping from her fingertips. Lorelei has trouble trusting and doesn't want to believe that she could have everything she ever wanted in these two men she now lives with. Cob is thrown for a loop and slowly comes to realize Lorelei is what he wants and needs in his life, only if he could convince her of the same. Slowly he learns how to tame the independent/wild woman that is used to being in control. He teaches her to trust and let others in and that she is worthy of the love she so desperately wants.

Can't believe I read this book in a day, didn't want to put it down. Little less outside drama than the last book, but I think a better tale. Many of the same characters from the last book and we get to see how things are progressing on the mountain. I would dearly love to see someone stand up to the church ladies in future books and I liked the new character Olivia who is Lorelei's new boss. I hope we get to see more of her in future books. I don't think things are quite settled with Junior and the drama from the last book, so I look forward to seeing how things play out in future additions to this series Ms. Rhoades has created. Thank you for the excellent escape.

Another winner for Ms Rhoades.
It isn't necessary to read book one to enjoy this book but you will feel for the characters even quicker if you have.
I loved the book's dialogue and all the characters. It had the right blend of being serious but at times playful and heart warming.

I really enjoyed the first book, Preston's Mill, where the heroine, Meg, befriended "wrong side of tracks" Lorelei and that surprised everyone.
Growing up the town whore's neglected daughter left Lorelei fiercely independent, mistrustful and feeling like an outcast.
When Cobb comes back to town after many years in the military, he was surprised to find Lorelei living with his old crotchety uncle Rollie. He wasn't sure what to make of the situation but he wanted to figure out her motives.
Through the book, along with Cobb, you come to understand Lorelei and want her to have a well deserved happily ever after.
Cobb was great for her. He was tough enough for her character but patient and understanding enough to get past the protective barriers she had used for years.
I will be looking forward to Olivia's book.

A wonderful add to a great new series by Jacqueline Rhoades.

Changing Times is an incredible love story and so much more!

Lorelei Stewart has had a very rough childhood and yet deep beneath her hard exterior, she has so much love to give, but being able to trust and accept someone has eluded her.

Cob Thornton is a simple and wonderful man who wants to come back to his mountain home to live. Nephew to Rollie Roper, he wants to take his uncle's moonshine business legal.

When these two meet, the sparks begin to fly. Will Cob be able to convince Lorelei to trust him, can they heal the wounds in each other's souls?

Coupled with a cast of wonderful characters that you know or would like to... this book and series is just full of humanity, love and absolute humor!

Jacqueline Rhoades is noted for her world building and characters that are near to your heart. This series is a complete triumph in all the areas she's noted for.

This is a 5 star series, I can't wait to read more of! Enjoy everyone, I did!

Cob is my new hero. Gotta love the man for overlooking the outward scowling from Lorelei and getting to know the caring person that she is inside. Hard to believe she is giving when her mother is such a witch. Rollie was a really great character and so were all her friends. Was so fun to see how Abagail wrapped them all around her little fingers when she is born.Good book recommend it.

Can't wait for the next one!

Great story. You can't let things in the past hinder the future. It is probably the hardest thing especially if we believe we deserve it. A wonderful story on learning how to believe we are worthy of the good things in life. Love comes in all shapes and from different places!

I was halfway afraid of Lorelei's story because of her baggage in the first book but Jacqueline managed to make this book even better than the first. Funny, poignant and charming and filled with so many fabulous characters that I want to visit Preston's Mill myself.

Love prevails.

In this second book about Hidden Mountain, we get Lorelei's story. Heart wrenching. Poor stubborn Lorelei, meets ex Army soldier Cob. The sparks fly! This truly is a love story. It is weaved through the Mountain and around your heart. I so fell for Cob, his gentleness and caring concern for a lost soul. Another suspenseful story about a woman with determination to make a better life for her baby. I loved reading about the small town and all of the people that live there. I highly recommend this book. From a True Fan... Pam James

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Jacqueline Rhoades continues to bring a wonderful story as the next chapter in this series. Her descriptions of Preston's Mills and Hidden Mountain are beautiful, you can actual see it. But that does not distract from the incredible cast of characters she brings to life in this series. Lorelei is the main character of this story. We met her in the first book, and she becomes the heroine saving Meg and TJ at the end of the book. Now we see her living with Rollie, 8 months pregnant and still stubborn as all get out. She meets Rollie's nephew Cob, and while she doesn't want to give in to his charm, is taken in with his loving ways. We get to live through her life trials with her mother, hang out with the unofficial girls' club, meet her new boss Olivia and enjoy her daughter Abigail. And oh the secrets we learn!!!

Leah Frederick again brings this story to us, with the same voices she uses in the previous story. There is nothing better than putting in your earbuds and recognizing your characters that become your family when you are listening. She is amazing.

The characters in this book are wonderful. Lorelei who we met in Book 1 features strongly in this and it is her growth that we follow and much like Cob we are captivated. This is a beautiful romance and one that brings hope to all of us that men like Cob exist and can see through all the pretense to the real woman underneath.
It is a universal truth that we react to our surroundings and love, good friends and a home to call our own can change even the hardest of us. This is a beautiful series most especially because the author allows the characters from the previous book to play a part. We not only have character continuity but we have the reality of life unfolding. Can't wait for the next book.

This is a good novel. I see there is another book in the series that started it. I want to see where things all began.
