Hunter Finn has is the Sentinel of the Willow Coven and after 10 years of self imposed isolation, he has been called home. But when he arrives he finds out he has a new "brother" within the coven, Dimitri Petrova, and their is unknown coven reeking havoc and attacking his sisters.
Tatyana Petrova is one of 13 siblings, but she has always been very close to her brother Dimitri. Recently Dimitri has been awol,claiming he has found a new family and distancing himself from her. She senses something is not quite right so she sets off to find him, in the middle of nowhere, to get some answers and give him a piece of her mind. Unfortunately things do not go to plan, her car breaks down, it storms and she has to set off on foot.
When she arrives she immediately feels a connection to the lovely witches within the Willow Coven home, definitely an attraction to Hunter Finn. However things become serious when they are all attacked, Tatyana is thrust into a world she had never really experienced, although her family is steeped in magical legends,she finds out fast that she is a witch and becomes blood bound to Hunter. This act saving her from a fate a slave/familiar to an evil warlock.
The evil warlock attacking the coven is intent on destroying them through any means, rape, torture,murder and planting malicious thoughts/ plots to tear them up from the inside. Everyone has to work together to beat the enemy before he rips them all apart.
I enjoyed the suspenseful, magical ride that was Hunter.Meeting all the members of the coven, the personalities varying as much as their powers and positions.
Hunter, himself, was an interesting character who had his fair share of demons that needed to be exercised. Lucky for him he meets the equally endearing, feisty Tatyana. I loved the connection between the two, the battle for each of them to withhold their feelings for one another. The tension between the two was electric which led to some very steamy scenes.
I found the villain of this book to be very scary, any sexual predator is and that is exactly what he is, preying on the woman of the coven to break them. I always like when the villain is a good one.
This was very easy to read and paced extremely well. The story was an interesting one and it was good to have a story fixed on witches rather than vampires and werewolves for a change. I am really keen for the rest of the characters in this book to get their own stories, so I really hope we get more of this magical group in the future.

I really liked this book, but it really confused me. I liked the world it took place in and the people were interesting. I love reading this genre of books and usually read about vampires and shifters so reading about witches and warlocks was a nice change of pace for me. My only complaint was that this book read like it was the second in a series. So much so that I put the book down and started looking around on the author's website and on other book related websites to make sure I hadn't missed the first book. I found no other book so I picked this one up again and continued reading. Super happy I did because the farther into the book I got the more I liked it.
The whole good vs evil, brother vs brother and nature vs nurture was played out to perfection. I really liked Hunter and Ryce and thought their friendship helped move this story along. Hunter's internal fight to make sure he didn't turn into a monster like his brother was something I would've liked to see more of. Tatyana was a good fit for Hunter and brought a level of playfulness that he desperately needed after his self-imposed exile from his family.
I hope this turns into a series because I'd really like to get a better understanding of the other witches like Gracelynn and Lennox and especially Ryce. Plus they have all those fledgling witches hanging around. Maybe even a prequel telling Dimitre and Annali's story.

This surprisingly was very very good.
The cover didn't exactly have me enthralled and don't give much away. If I did the usual and went into my local bookstore and based my next read on the cover alone I can say straight off I would not pick this, covers are important in our decisions, and this one could have been much better.
Hunter is supposed to be gorgeous and that guy on the cover,. Please. He's got nothing on my imaginary guy.
Anyways the story. Yeah it's pretty darn awesome. Kept me on my toes and I devoured it. Dark witches, warlocks, covens, white witches, warlocks and covens, and then their powers weather witches, empathisers, mentalists, spiritualists, elementals, wow there was a vast range and it made me always curious and eager to know more.
Each character was very kick ass and completely unique and individual. I wanted to know everything about everyone and the writing was very very good.
There was just the right amount of magic, romance, adventure, danger and thrills to keep you hooked.

It feels mean to give this book a one star, so I'll give it a pity two star.
The book was a slow start, then the fight scenes a little confusing. The sexual tension was good . . . at parts, then whiplashed the reader when the heroine went from blushing to vixen to blushing again. A battle boner that never dies . . .
Plus, there was a feeling that you just got dropped into book 2 of a romance series. Was there a book 1 I missed that did her older brother's story? Because this book seems to imply that there was one.
Oh, then add in a magical blood-tie thing that creates lust, etc. By 30% it felt like another cheap tack on to the already cliche plot devices.
Some things were okay. A bit was boring. But overall, when the book decides to "jump" to the evil villain for a moment then go back, I abandoned ship. I no longer gave a shit.

Review Courtesy All Things Urban Fantasy
I wasn’t sure what to expect from HUNTER. On the surface it had all my happy buttons pushed – witches and magic and romance. Seemed like a perfect match. And for the most part, it was. The story itself was pretty solid and I loved the way the world was set up with the different schools of witches.
I enjoyed the way the story melded two very different types of families – Tatyana’s and Dimitre’s large Russian family with Hunter’s coven family of witches. I think I laughed out loud when Dimitre tried to go all big brother when he finally entered the story and Tatyana went typical baby sister smackdown.
I think my favorite part of HUNTER was watching Tatyana come into her magic. Already a strong character, she stepped into that role with some believable skepticism but once she accepted what was, she truly started to shine within her new life. She even took to it better than her new family, and one of my favorite scenes was when they were tiptoeing around her, believing her to be traumatized and she calmly informed them that not only was she fine, but that they were all dead wrong about what happened.
The problems I had with HUNTER had little to do with the plot, though, and everything to do with the language. I don’t want to say it was overly purple prose, but there were a few times I wanted to go back in time and take the author’s thesaurus away. (Any time a lollipop is described as a “globular sweet” I tend to nope out.) And glorious as it no doubt is, I didn’t really need three pages to fully appreciate Hunter’s package.
It wasn’t just a lavender tint to the prose, though. In the very beginning, the language was so formal, I started to wonder if Hunter was actually hundreds of years old (instead of mid-thirties) because even though his spoken language was modern, the sections of exposition from his point of view were overly effusive. Hint: Not many modern men refer to their faces as “visages.” At times I wondered if HUNTER hadn’t started as a Victorian novel then switched to the present and someone forgot to go back and edit. Also, and this is purely a personal thing for me, but repeated 10+ page sex scenes of truly acrobatic, endurance-testing , multi- multi- orgasm sex tend to bore me, but since this is listed as erotica, I can’t say they weren’t expected.
I’m not sure if I’ll try another by this author, but with the strength of the story and truly likeability of the characters, I’ll consider it.

Looking for a good witch story? One that battles self, family and evil? Want to share an intensity that leaves you feeling drugged after you close the book? Well look no further, Hunter by JAX aka Jacquelyn Frank has managed to put it all in one place.
The thing about Hunter is it reads like a series book but so far it remains a stand alone, I think. I started reading this book and there was this rich and complete back story. The kind you only get when you are filling in memories from a previous book. Characters have had some pretty interesting lives and already there was one supercouple. I just knew there had to be another book and I was reading the second one. Maybe I was but so far I can't find any record of it.
This one aspect really played with my head throughout the book. Enough so that I commented to a young man I am friends with. I explained all of my well thought out reasons. My history with romance books and series books. My understanding of the entire concept and his response was "and maybe... that is exactly what the author wants you to feel.. putting you in that place where you have a sense of deja vu" Let me tell you this, I almost threw my book at him. What a concept.. dang kids.. and if this was the case of Ms Frank then dang author.. It brought an entirely new dimension to this book. Sheesh, I hope I don't find out there was another book because then I will be feeling let down (although I wouldn't mind reading it for itself).

Tatiyana was the 13th child in her family. She was born with the sight but knew better than to mention it. People thought she was just odd. Now an adult she was spending her New Year's searching for her missing brother. The one whom she adored, was closest to who shared everything with her. Except now he had a new life, a new woman and a new "family" and she was sure there was something going on. Add to the fact that she had visions of him in danger she knew she had to find him. That is how she found herself stranded on dark country road, on New Year's Eve in a party dress, with no cell and hoofing it to where he was supposed to be living...
Having felt he had failed them Hunter had left his friends, his home, his family and wandered the world for ten long years. Now he has been called home and while everyone is excited to see him something is just off and he knows it. He wasn't the coven sentinel for nothing. While discussing what was happening a beautiful stranger all but falls into his arms. Hunter feels an instant connection but doesn't let that stop him from putting the coven first.. That is until she runs into battle to save him. Realizing that this Mysterious woman is more than the sister of the Coven's newest member but a dormant witch changes everything.
A dormant witch needs a mentor, needs someone to walk her/him into her powers.. She needs someone who stands there for her as she learns the nuances of what she has. While there is a sexual pull few have ever felt the overwhelming pull of sexual intensity. The need to almost eliminate anyone who gets in their way. When this power touches both the mentor and the aspirant things get a little wonky. Poor Hunter, just come home and caught up in the throws of something very powerful.
Add to that a battle with a neighboring Coven. A Powerful evil coven that wants to totally destroy theirs. Tatiyana has to come up to speed and fast. What are her powers and how can she help the coven. How can she deal with a powerful witch when he is sure he doesn't deserve a family of his own? And of course how can she make sure her brother remembers she is 24 not 14? All great questions..
While the battle itself was resolved I am hoping that Ms Frank continues this storyline. Of course I am having a hard time actually finding this book anywhere but at Netgalley so I am still hoping that it really is a book.. LOL.. honestly, a great story.. with so very much potential. Check it out

While there is a sexual pull few have ever felt the overwhelming pull of sexual intensity. The need to almost eliminate anyone who gets in their way. When this power touches both the mentor and the aspirant things get a little wonky. Poor Hunter, just come home and caught up in the throws of something very powerful.
Add to that a battle with a neighboring Coven. A Powerful evil coven that wants to totally destroy theirs. Tatiyana has to come up to speed and fast. What are her powers and how can she help the coven. How can she deal with a powerful witch when he is sure he doesn't deserve a family of his own? And of course how can she make sure her brother remembers she is 24 not 14? All great questions..
While the battle itself was resolved I am hoping that Ms Frank continues this storyline. Of course I am having a hard time actually finding this book anywhere but at Netgalley so I am still hoping that it really is a book.. LOL.. honestly, a great story.. with so very much potential. Check it out

This book was somewhat of a surprise for me. I have to admit I have not read many books that center around witches as they hadn't really interested me all that much, but this book just may have changed my mind! Hunter by Jax (pseudonym of Jacquelyn Frank) was a great, quick page turning read!
So let's start the review shall we??
So our leading lady Tatyana decides to surprise her brother Dimitri by driving out in the middle of ruralville to say "Hi, I miss you big brother!" What she doesn't expect is that her little drive is about to change her entire life. Her car breaks down, it's freezing out, she is wearing a smexy dress and heels (thank goodness she packed her runners to change into ..lol) and she decides it's not cool to freeze in this spot .. off she goes walking to the house.
When she knocks on the door, she literally falls into the hot arms (figuratively and literally) of our leading man Hunter. Instantly, these two have a serious case of "love at first sight and I wanna jump your bones". After she warms up a little, she is thrown right into a battle of sorts that reveals all kinds of secrets and why her big brother has been absent from her life for the past while.
Tatyana discovers these people that live in this beautiful mansion are members of Willow Coven, a white witch (good witch) nest. She also discovers through this battle, that she is a dormant witch herself and her powers are ignited when Hunter blood bonds with her to claim her as his familiar. A familiar is a dormant witch that has been awakened by another witch good or bad and is mentored by that witch.
Now we need to introduce the antagonist of this story. Enter Braen! Braen just so happens to be Hunter's brother and a dark witch (evil witch) and a serious A HOLE! I really really hated this guy and Jax wrote him perfectly as there was nothing good about this man. Braen happens to be the leader of the local dark coven who is trying to defeat Willow coven.
So there is the foundation of the story without giving away too much!
Here's what I loved! All these witches (good and bad) have special powers unique to their coven. We see everything from a Sentinel, alchemist, weather witch and a healer (an so much more). I loved reading about all the different sorts of magic and spell casting used and it was all so unique to anything I have read in the paranormal genre. I could picture all the magic as I read every word and see the colours, hear the chanting! I also loved the animal like attraction that Hunter and Tatyana have towards each other and it's explained why further into the book (I'm not gonna give it all away ya know .. WINK)
I also loved how I was surprised on any given page about a few of the scenes, wondering if it was real or if magic was weaving it's web. I actually gasped at certain parts feeling angry and then relieved and then angry and then happy and then .. well you get the point! LOL
Why this wasn't a hot 5 out of 5 for me is simple to say. I wanted more dark coven scenes and explore that side a little more. Jax had written the bad guys so well I actually wanted more of then to read about and what made them tick.
So if you love the paranormal genre (especially witches) and you love lots of hot scenes, action and unexpected turns with a touch of strong family bonds tied in then this book is for you! I am uncertain is this is going to be a series (YES PLEASE) but I will certainly be making sure that I have the next book if it is!

Hunter by Jacquelyn Frank, JAX, draws you into a new and interesting world of witches, warlocks and the battle between good and evil. It is an entertaining and erotic story that holds your attention from beginning to end. The characters and backstory are richly detailed, so much so in fact, that this reads very much like a second book in a series. I really enjoyed this book and found the cast of characters to be interesting with history and depth. All of the characters feel genuine and, with the exception of the bad guys, are likable. There is a definite good guy vs. bad guy element that carries the story nicely. The main characters, Tatyana and Hunter have smoking hot chemistry together yet their love story is believable. It is a joy to read their story and follow along as they and their friends fight against the evil attacking them. Hunter is filled with action, witchcraft, romance and sex.
Hunter is a great story and I look forward to more stories in this world. It is recommended for fans of Paranormal Romance.

Hunter by Jacquelyn Frank aka JAX, is a stand alone book that feels like a series. The beginning starts off a little long winded in telling the back-story. I kind of felt like I was missing something, possibly a previous book, but I could not find another book. I thought that was kind of distracting and almost put the book down.
After finally getting past the back-story, this book had an interesting take on witches. I thought that the instant connection that Tatyana had with Hunter was intriguing. I wanted to learn more about them. Honestly, this is the only reason I continued reading this book.

I really enjoyed this paranormal romance. The author did an excellent job with the story and the characters. The story was well formed, exciting, suspenseful and romantic. Hunter is hot. Tatyana is the perfect person/witch for this story. Love that she is one of 13 kids in her family. Plus, she doesn't know of her witch abilities. It is fun watching her learn what they are. The narrator did an excellent job with each of the characters.

I enjoyed this. I did feel like I was missing something, as I couldn't tell if this was book 2 in a series or not.
There were some jumps that felt a little forced. And the insta-love explained by magic/fate was done well, because they actually thought and talked about it some.

Well darn it! I had a hard time even finishing this book. How could it go wrong? Beautiful lady, broken down car. The first two chapters were great. Then I started wanting more PLOT.

Another great book from Jacquelyn Frank! I normally don't read books about witches but I've read her Nightwalker series and I loved it! So I figured if anyone could get me to read about witches, it would be her!
I immediately loved the heroine, Tatyana. First, her name is just way too cool. I think that's a sexy and mysterious name! But we meet her as her car breaks down on the side of the road in the middle of the Catskills in New York and there is no cell signal and its ridiculously cold and... well you get the point. She's having a really crappy night!! She's dressed for her company New Year's Eve party so she's got this beautiful, red silk dress and killer heels on which is NOT the attire to go trekking through the snow. Luckily, she had some sneakers in the backseat so she puts them on and heads out to try and find a house or a phone or SOME kind of sign of civilization!! This whole scene of her being stranded and walking in the pitch darkness in the snow was so funny to me. I mean, she wasn't scared or anything. She was just pissed as hell and I could totally see her grumbling and mumbling to herself as she's slogging through the snow in this gorgeous, fancy dress and sneakers... Anyways, her introduction was awesome and she just keeps getting better. She's a strong woman and is incredibly resourceful. Best of all, she has a true and deep love for her HUGE family. She's the youngest of 13 kids!!!!! Yikes! I know I can always count on Jacquelyn Frank to give me awesome female characters and Tatyana doesn't disappoint.
But Tatyana has an equally awesome counterpart in Hunter. Hunter is an extremely powerful witch, a white witch, which is a good witch and that's a good witch to be! LOL! I crack myself up! Anyway, Hunter is also his coven's Sentinel. To me, it sounded like the Sentinel was not just the coven's protector but also their enforcer. Like, when a coven of dark witches kills or hurts one of Hunter's coven, he is the one who is sent out to hunt down and punish whoever is responsible. So Hunter is a serious badass, on all levels. And of course, we love that, right? But the other side of that badassery is a deep level of love and caring for the members of his coven. Every single one of them is like a brother or sister to him. I think it makes Hunter even sexier, that he loves and cares about these people so much. He's also so damn honorable that it makes for some funny situations. Like when he and Tatyana are about to get into some Sexy Time, its his honor that makes him slow things down and you know that Tatyana is pissed as hell!
I just loved seeing Tatyana and Hunter together. Witches believe in nature and in fate so what Tatyana and Hunter are feeling for each other, they don't really fight it because its fate that they meet and their attraction is natural. That doesn't mean that Hunter's honor doesn't get in the way quite a bit in the beginning! But they mesh so well and so quickly and it doesn't SEEM fast. There's a few witchy rituals that have to be done and that bind them together so you get past the getting-to-know-you stuff right away and can get right into the action, which I absolutely love!
Hunter is a stand-alone novel but I would swear that it's book 1 of a series. Well, at least, I WISH it was book 1 of a series! I want to hear all about all of the other characters and I want to see them fall in love and fight battles and all that good stuff! Either way, I loved this book. I'm trying to come up with something that I didn't like about it. Characters, pacing, situations, everything. I can't come up with one thing that I didn't like about it, other than wanting more of this world. Speaking of the world of Hunter, one of the neat things about this book is that it's taking place in our time, in our world but some of the things they say sound like it's set in medieval times. It keeps you a little off balance and I mean that in a good way!
I would definitely recommend this book to pretty much anyone. If you don't like witches, don't worry about it. There are spells and magic but not really any chanting in the woods or anything like that. The characters are the absolute best part of this book and I think you'll fall in love with every single one of them. If you've never read Jacquelyn Frank before, do yourself a big favor and check this one out!

There was something I like about this book that I can't put my finger on. It was a basic story, but well told and with some funny and exciting moments.
Tatyana Petrova is a young woman living and working in New York. The youngest of thirteen children, where her brother Dimietre is number seven when she decides on New Years Eve to go see her brother, who has been living in the Catskills for the last two months and a little more distant than he's been in the past. They've always been close and now he's barely communicating with her, and when he does, only by phone.
Tatyana's car breaks down, which requires her to walk to the estate, literally falling into the arms of Hunter Finn, Sentinel to the Willow Clan of witches. Hunter has just returned himself after a self imposed exile of almost eleven years. He's called back by the High Priest of the clan, Ryce Champion. Rice and everyone in the Willow Clan are White Witches. Ryce has called Hunter back because they are being attacked by a coven of Warlocks, which it turns out are headed by Hunter's brother Braen, High Cleric of the Belladonna Coven. Hunter comes from a long line or dark witches, but was never really took to the ways and was turned to the ways of the White witch at the age of ten due to his friendship with Ryce.
Hunter is immediately attracted to Tatyana. When the coven is attacked, just after her arrival, Hunter takes it upon himself to bind her to him. He realizes in mear moments that she's a dormant witch. He explains to her later that if she went unclaimed she would fall subject to a dark witch taking her against her will as a familiar. Dark witches tend to use their familiar in terrible ways, most notably as sex slaves, which is really rape, since they don't know what they are doing. They are also subject to being beaten. This happened to Annali Templeton when over eleven years ago, at which time she was rescued by Hunter and Ryce, and is now the lover and teacher to Tatyana's brother Dimitre.
Early on after their blood exchange, their impulse controls are lessened and they can't seem to keep their hands off of each other. At the same time Tatyiana's abilities are manifesting and growing. It turns out she's a Mentalist, which is one of the most powerful type of witch. She starts doing spells without even trying.
After Braen get's into the estate using Asher's body and tries to attack Tatyana, her abilities grow exponentially. She knows that Asher's body was being used by Braen, she knows people's emotions and can hear their thoughts. She also can make people see her as anyone she wants them to.
The Willow Coven uses Tatyana's ability to get into Braen's home and take him out, which she does because Hunter is unable to kill his brother. Annali can't go because she's pregnant, which she didn't know.
After they take out Baen, Tatyana helps Hunter heal from his past and they tell each other they love one another.
Like I said, it's was interesting. I just felt like it was just fell short of being amazing. I didn't like that there were changes from one moment to another or character location without any notice. Therefore, there were times when the story would jump to something else and it would take me a moment to figure out I was reading about a different person, location etc.
I liked the connection between Hunter and Tatyana. I didn't like how she reported in to her other siblings early in the story then they were completely forgotten, along with her job and apartment. As far as I can tell she never even called anyone to let them know she wouldn't be available for a while. She's just as guilty of dropping off the grid as Dimitre.
I like how Ryce and Hunter are there as big brothers to Annali. She's funny and spirited. Gracelynn barely had a story or anything to do with anything. Maybe if there's a sequel, something can happen for this character. Otherwise, she just a nothing to the story.
I thought the descriptions of the fighting was cool. I liked that a lot. I've read books before when the characters are supposed to be warriors and they never fight throughout the entire book. That didn't happen here. There was plenty of fighting and witchcraft.

This happened to Annali Templeton when over eleven years ago, at which time she was rescued by Hunter and Ryce, and is now the lover and teacher to Tatyana's brother Dimitre.
Early on after their blood exchange, their impulse controls are lessened and they can't seem to keep their hands off of each other. At the same time Tatyiana's abilities are manifesting and growing. It turns out she's a Mentalist, which is one of the most powerful type of witch. She starts doing spells without even trying.
After Braen get's into the estate using Asher's body and tries to attack Tatyana, her abilities grow exponentially. She knows that Asher's body was being used by Braen, she knows people's emotions and can hear their thoughts. She also can make people see her as anyone she wants them to.
The Willow Coven uses Tatyana's ability to get into Braen's home and take him out, which she does because Hunter is unable to kill his brother. Annali can't go because she's pregnant, which she didn't know.
After they take out Baen, Tatyana helps Hunter heal from his past and they tell each other they love one another.
Like I said, it's was interesting. I just felt like it was just fell short of being amazing. I didn't like that there were changes from one moment to another or character location without any notice. Therefore, there were times when the story would jump to something else and it would take me a moment to figure out I was reading about a different person, location etc.
I liked the connection between Hunter and Tatyana. I didn't like how she reported in to her other siblings early in the story then they were completely forgotten, along with her job and apartment. As far as I can tell she never even called anyone to let them know she wouldn't be available for a while. She's just as guilty of dropping off the grid as Dimitre.
I like how Ryce and Hunter are there as big brothers to Annali. She's funny and spirited. Gracelynn barely had a story or anything to do with anything. Maybe if there's a sequel, something can happen for this character. Otherwise, she just a nothing to the story.
I thought the descriptions of the fighting was cool. I liked that a lot. I've read books before when the characters are supposed to be warriors and they never fight throughout the entire book. That didn't happen here. There was plenty of fighting and witchcraft.

Hunter by Jacquelyn Frank (or Jax) is a paranormal romance. Tatyana Petrova is on a crazy road that seems to go no where, and no one knows where she is. When her car breaks down on a freezing New Years Eve, there is no cell phone service and she starts walking towards her destination. She practically falls into the arms of Hunter Finn. Hunter has just returned home from a self imposed exile to take up his mantle as Sentinel of Willow Coven, a group of good witches with unimaginable power defending their lives and home from danger. The attraction between the two is instant, but before long danger is upon them and Tatyana is initiated into a world of magic and danger.
Hunter offers fans of Jacquelyn Frank, or Jax, what they have come to expect. The characters are strong and smart, no shirking violets or fainting damsels here, and the actions scenes are as fast and furious as the romantic sparks between the main characters. While the attraction is sudden, it does not equal the pair falling into bed immediately, rather the pair seem to consider honor and the consequences prior to moving forward. I rather like the fact that characters can think beyond attraction and hormones. I did feel like I missed something, as I have read many of Frank's books but do not seem to remember the story around Tatyana's brother meeting the coven and falling in love, which would have let me immerse myself into the created world a little faster. However, the story here did answer most of the questions I had about the coven and past exploits and left me feeling satisfied that I understood what was going on.
Tatyana has come to the home, uninvited, in search from her brother and finds much more than she bargained far. I liked the familial ties that moved the action of the story forward, and the foreshadowing that it offers for the series, but I think the same connections open up more questions. If my sibling when in search for another, and then pulled the same kind of disappearing act (including from their job) I would be on a warpath and in search of answers.I think that was the only plot point that irked me, but I fully expect that to be a part of the story in future novels.
I recommend Hunter to fans of Jacquelyn Frank or Jax. She does not disappoint those that come with an idea of what to expect. For readers that have yet to explore Frank's work, while I did enjoy Hunter, I still think that my favorite works from the author are in the Nightwalkers series, including Jacob, Gideon, and Elijah.

I admit, I was hooked from the very beginning. Jax has a way of writing that is witty, sarcastic and funny, with a dry humor. The intense scenes between Hunter and Tatyana were HOT. I could feel the passion and heat that was building between them.
Jax did an amazing job of building a world that lives along side the world we all live in. Her easy explanation account for how these witches live in our society, yet we know nothing of their world.
I liked the idea of the differing schools of magic. Each school of magic gives the witch or warlock certain advantages and disadvantages. No two witches are exactly alike. The power level of each witch is different as is the school of magic and their ability.
It was just a neat world to be a part of. Now, I don’t KNOW that this is the first in a series. But I certainly hope it is. While there were no cliffhangers, there certainly were hints of the possibility of future books with this witch coven. I certainly hope there is!

After her car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, the heroine stumbles through the cold night to find her extranged brother cottage. There she meets a very usual but friendly and welcoming group of people. One of these people is the hero. Who, might I say based on the description, is just total hots. Dark hair, short but longer in the front. Tanned skin, muscle but lean body. And those eyes. The cover does it total justice with the picture of those blue eyes. Turns out that these people are witches in a secret coven, which the heroine finds out when they are attacked by the warlocks, or dark witches. In the heat of battle the heroine's own dormant powers come to life via the hero's awakening and binding spell. When the dust settles she's left dealing with the fact that not only is she psychic but she's an apprentice witch to this mightily handsome man. I was so looking forward to this book and it started out so well but it was a steady decline after the first few chapters. This book was heavy. Not deep, but instead LOADED. There was soo much dialogue, so much inner thoughts and so many tid bit about witches and the coven and their way of life that it was just a jumble of facts. The author spent so much time explaining things that my brain started to wander which makes it extremely difficult to become involved in the story. And she did something that I absolutely despise. She changes narratives mid scene. I hate it when you're seeing the scene through the hero's eyes and suddenly it switches over to the heroines. It puts me off. No I will say that I enjoyed the hero and heroine as people. The hero is such a cut and dry HERO. The dude should have a cape, seriously. He was so heroic and noble and decent. The heroine was funny, charming in a quirky sort of way. Together they had awesome chemistry but the story was very thick. The binding spell basically takes a natural attraction and makes them horney sex craving maniacs. It cheapened the story a little and made it seem like there was nothing behind the sex. I honestly couldn't get past more than half way through and I have no desire to retry anytime soon. Too bad. It had such promise.

"Hunter" by Jacquelyn Frank writing as JAX. A paranormal novel.
I really enjoyed this book! I usually not into stand alone books but I found this one very well put together. The characters were all very likeable. The storyline was great and the chemistry between the main characters was H-O-T!
This book is about a coven of witches, the Willow House Coven. They are in a war with their rivals, the Belladonna Coven. One of their coven has already been brutally attacked so Ryce, the coven leader, decides to call back Hunter, the coven's Sentinel. Hunter has been away for 10 years from the coven. Now that he's back, the coven has a greater chance of defeating their rivals. Since Hunter was gone, the coven has a new witch, Dimitri, who's just learning his powers. Unbeknowst to the coven, Dimitri has a sister, Tatyana, who unexpectedly shows up on their doorstep looking for Dimitri. She has no idea he brother is a witch so Hunter and the coven try their best to hide it from her. But then there's an attack on the house, and Tatyana is caught in the middle of a war she knows nothing about, Hunter saves her life, and now all hell has broken loose because she finds out that she's a witch too!!
All and all, I thought this story was very intriguing. The characters interacted really well with each other. You could feel the familial bond between all of them. The only thing I didn't like was the nickname for Tatyana...which is Tat. I so did not like that abbrieviated form of her name, but that's just me. As I said, the chemistry between Hunter and Tatyana is explosive. And the villain was so well done. You hate him from the first moment you're introduced to him. Great plot twist with the villain too.
So, if you're into reading about witches and magic, and like some romance thrown in, then I would give this book a try.

This is an intriguing magical story that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with intense and interesting concepts of the paranormal world of witches.
A modern gal who can handle any crisis, Tatyana breaks down in the middle of nowhere and before she knows what hits her she meets a hotter than hot stranger that she is drawn to like a moth to flames. When she senses a threat to Hunter, she becomes his protection and he draws her into a dangerous world of magic, sorcery and sensuality.
The fast paced plot flows smoothly with lots of action, magic and romance. The author brings this story to life with vivid imagery that engages the reader’s imagination and strong bewitching characters that the reader can easily relate to. The action is painted with intense detail that makes it feel as if it is taking place right in front of the readers and with intriguing surprises twists that keep them guessing, this makes for an enthralling read from beginning to end.
The chemistry between Hunter and Tatyana is red hot and the sex scenes are scorching and these two make a charming couple. The author gives all the characters in the book such powerful personalities that the reader is convinced that magic is real and these characters are needed to keep evil in check.
All of the worlds created by Jacquelyn Frank are intriguing, believable and very entertaining with unique qualities that make for refreshing changes and this fantastic world written by her alter ego, Jax, is no exception. The only drawback was that I felt that I was dropped into an already existing world. I was unable to determine if the author is going to write more books in this world, but I for one certainly hope so. The Willow Coven has the potential for a very promising future and I think that a prequel with Dimitri and Annali’s story would be awesome.
