A collection of oneshot stories relating to various Shaman King characters. This is an on-going series, with new chapters being released infrequently. Each chapter is not officially numbered, but the chapter number relate to the order they were released. The beginning of chapter 6 and the end of chapter 7 connect to after Shaman King Flowers chapter 18 (may contain some spoilers for that series).

Hiroyuki Takei (武井宏之 Takei Hiroyuki) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime Shaman King. His brother, Hirofumi Takei (武井宏文) is also a manga-ka.

Wait... is Damuko the first girl in Shaman King to wear ZR? How did it take so long? Or did I somehow fail to notice someone else much earlier?

Also, 18-year-old Kanna, damn, dude. Why couldn't she have kept the edgelord ("edgelady"?) design during the Shaman Fight? I always liked her most of Team Hanagumi, and now I have better reason. Well, "better."

Anyway, decent collection of prequel stories, attempting to clean up characterization from later volumes to make it all align better with the beginning of the manga. Yoh's thing about having wanted to kill humanity as Shaman King (discussed with Hao near the end of the kanzenban run) is called back here with his loneliness as a child. Ren's earlier edginess is "excused" as making it so 9-year-old Tao was always concerned about what killing people does to one's heart, which doesn't exactly fix the issue of his murder of Chrom, but I guess it's better than e.g. Vegeta in Dragon Ball going from genocidal alien warlord to Bulma's loving husband. Horohoro's story is more stuff with Damuko, and it's just fucking fantastic, highlight of the volume. Lyserg's story is kinda shit, since it doesn't really add anything to his existence, but I've always been indifferent to Lyserg anyway. Morphine looks hotter when her eyes are closed, so that's something. The fifth story is a bait-and-switch of sorts, being mostly about how Bill first met the rest of Hao's followers, playing straight-man to all their quirks, until the last few pages which reveal Chocolove as reading the same chapter and getting upset that his story was skipped. Anna, Tao Jun, Tamao, and Jeanne all appear out of nowhere to make fun of him for ranking low in popularity polls, "justifying" the lack of a unique chapter (and they raise the point that he already had his backstory covered anyway). Pretty unfortunate if true, as it seems like Japanese kids may not have liked Chocolove for his race or something, and Chocolove is my second-favorite character (after Horohoro) so it's kind of a shame he didn't get much. But whatever.

As is perhaps to be expected, I teared up a bit when we see Damuko talk to Horohoro before he puts his snowboarding jacket on for the first time, and he turns around to see that it's just Kororo. Actually, I was moved earlier when Yoh channeled the country singer's soul for his little performance, as I could have expected as well.

It is basicaly a volume that contains multiple stories from the past.

I must say that there were some that were really helpfull, giving some important pieces of information. One of these was especially Yoh's one, that made me see how he dealt with bullying when he was young. I already knew that he was hated, but this point of view made me understand his situation better.

The one that really blow my mind was Horo Horo's story. I would't have thought that this scenario was possible if I hadn't read his story. The most disturbing part was the ending. Seeing him like a vulnerable suicidal child made me rethink his entire character. I believe that this part of his story is esencial in understanding him. I loved that chapter so much that I think that it deserves all the stars in the world.

The reason why I cannot give this book a full-star review is the fact that stories such as Horo Horo's are nowhere to be seen. Yes, there are some decent to good stories, such as Lyserg's, but there were also stories like Ren's that didn't change anything and do not show anything new. As well, there were a lot of fillers, fact that didn't live up to my expectations.

4 estrellas para la historia de Yoh, 3 estrellas para la de Ren, 5 para la de Horo-Horo (mi favorita btw), 4 para la de Lyserg Bae y 2 para la ultima (? si si esa cosa media extraña que no entendi.
