Conspiracy theories
I believe a lot of that exists, we may not know the facts but I'm sure they're there.
I love the book and look forward to reading more by the author.

BA-47 PS WINN
If you love conspiracy thrillers you will love Ba-47. It’s a good thing that one military guy was honest enough to inform the population of a small community what actually happened and what their fate would be at the hands of a crazed general. Psychologist my butt, more like a psycho. With the help of a lab worker, the group neutralizes the destruction of all they know. The characters, most of them, are likable and I rooted for them to solve the problem. This is another example of stellar writing based on a vast imagination. Ba-47 gets 5 stars

‘BA-47’ is a simple novella with a familiar theme: secret laboratories, a government cover-up, struggle to reveal the truth to the public. P.S. Winn is not overly concerned with characterization or convoluted plotting, concentrating on giving readers a fast-paced story. This lack of character and story depth is fine for young readers, but will leave others unsatisfied. Expanded, this would make a great political thriller. Nevertheless, ‘BA-47’ is an entertaining read.

Some initial disclaimers going in. This book has some minor formatting flaws (paragraphs that indent a little too far in), but otherwise the copy-editing looks fairly clean with just the occasional typo. Note also that I was reading in my cloud reader on my laptop, so it’s possible these glitches do not present in other formats. They were not enough of a distraction in any case to put me off reading the book, and I’m glad of that, because it turned out to be a fun and absorbing tale.

If you’re a fan of medical thrillers in the Robin Cook vein, or scientific thrillers of any kind, involving biotech, this is for you. Reading it, it felt like a cross between Outbreak by Robin Cook, and possibly The China Syndrome, or Erin Brokovich. Instead of a lawyer trying to figure out what’s going on, and to sort out truth from the lies and disinformation wars waged by the guilty parties, we have just an average joe looking into things, which dials up the thriller aspect of the story as the odds are just that much more against him. Factor in that he’s also among the intended victims of the next planned, deliberate biohazard spill, and we have a definite ticking clock, edgy thriller that rockets forward from page one. Kudos to the writer, by the way, for cramming this much story in so few words; this book borders on a novella.

One thing about the author’s writing style reminded me of my own, the dialogue driven plot is very easy to see play out as a film in your mind’s eye. Most of what we learn about the characters, and our ability to bond with them comes through dialogue and their character dynamics and interaction. Again, very filmic, but sometimes challenging to pull off in book form while making the story every bit as engaging without letting the reader further inside the character’s heads. Still, the author pulls it off. Again, kudos. The fact that her approach to storytelling is so similar to my own, makes us something of kindred spirits, to say nothing of the subject matter, so you might want to file this observation under viewer bias; perhaps it deserves another disclaimer.

There is a wonderful sense of claustrophobia pervading the tale, as you feel trapped right along with the residents of this small community, surrounded by the military, who you get the sense from early on has no intention of ever letting anyone out alive. And any chance the citizenry cum human guinea pigs have comes down to outsmarting an opponent that is trained for this, is far better informed than you are, and has you outfoxed and outmaneuvered every which way from Sunday. Great knuckle biting stuff that it’s just impossible to get any distance on. This formula is so effective I think it has been used from time immemorial; I recall The Thing From Another World by Howard Hawks, a sci-fi film, that gives us cabin fever by locking up a bunch of outclassed military guys with an alien from another world determined to use them for food stock. Slightly different genre, exactly the same sweaty palm sensation and dread of knowing any hope from the get go is the hope of the hopeless.

Highly recommended for fans of conspiracy thrillers as well. Especially those involving some branch of our government.

BA-47 by P.S. Winn is a fast-paced action novel centering on the adventures of Jack Carlton, a widower who finds himself in yet another potential life crisis during a community alert at a local bio-fuel plant. BA-47 is the name of a chemical armament designed as a weapon of mass destruction, and radio personality Steve Paxton suspects that the forensic evidence at the scene of the accident resembles the capabilities of the WMD. He plans an expose of a possible government cover-up on his radio show, “Secret America”, which could have dire consequences for General William Barlow and General Martin Jeffers. Jack and Steve find themselves in a collision course with military leaders carrying the weight of the Government behind them as they attempt to discover whether or not the accident was part of a cold-blooded experiment.

This is P.S. Winn’s eighth novel, a worthy addition to a growing anthology that makes hers a name to watch in 2014. Pick up a copy of BA-47 by P.S. Winn and find out what it’s all about.

I am not a conspiracy theorist and I don't buy into the notion easily that there are those in our government who would kill us for the purpose of testing weapons. But the facts of life suggest my reluctance to accept those notions is probably naive. This book is wholly about a government conspiracy to test a poisonous gas on a small community. I will not tell you more as to do so would spoil the book for you. The book is tense and the tension mounts to the very end. It details the machinations of wild eyed militaristic idiots who would experiment on their own population in order to further their death dealing instruments. I enjoyed the book thoroughly. Pamela Winn is an excellent writer. She creates pictures with her words which are vivid indeed. I highly recommend the book to any reader of the age of tweens or above. I think almost anyone would have a great time with this book.

Everyone enjoys a juicy conspiracy theory and P.S. Winn brings one to life in a major way in BA-47. The story takes place in a sub-division in Montana where the evil villain is a military scientist named Martin Jeffers. The local town hero, Jack, is faced with a decision to trust and accept the help of another military official, Colonel Steve Paxton. With his help, the small town's teamwork is put to the test under the clock. But will it be enough to save them from Jeffers' evil scientific plan?

This story was written in an easy-to-read way and read like the scene of a movie. The author's real life depiction of our military and government will have you questioning your very surroundings.

When I pick up a P.S. Winn book, I expect to be entertained and I'm never disappointed. BA-47 starts with the chilling tale of an accident in a bio-fuel plant in Montana. The lab workers are killed and the plant survivors plus the residents of the surrounding town are in a race to save their lives. And questions arise. Was this an accident or an experiment overseen by a disturbed military scientist. When Jack Carlton teams up with the local radio personality to expose possible government involvement, things go from bad to worse. Warning! This is one of those books that is difficult to put down once you start reading.

I enjoyed this very much. It's entertaining and the science is just enough to be plausible without being overbearing. It involves the military, secret biological weapon experiments and cover up when things go wrong. The story is well told and moves along at a cracking pace.

For some readers it is just the right length for a good read but for me I would have liked it to be double the length so I could spent more time in the situation. I'll leave it for a while and read it again to go back and enjoy it the characters and their predicament.

P.S. Winn proves yet again that she can fascinate and enthral the reader with the workings of her mind. Realistic and compelling characters with a scientific backdrop, this tense, character driven tale kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. A must read for lovers of action, mystery and adventure.

BA-47 is a compelling page-turner which moves at an assured, measured pace, making the events depicted stark in their power, but backed up with a strong humanistic element that makes the book relatable to readers. A compulsive read which could have become melodramatic in lesser hands, it is firmly narrated by the author in a naturalistic fashion.

I love conspiracy theories and this was a very entertaining one. At a fantastic pace and pulled me along nicely. Thank you dear Pamela. :)

* I bought and read this a while back, but I've been struggling with winter and the myriad colds, flu and general ickiness that comes along with. So, I cannot remember dates of purchase etc anymore. :(

This novel is wonderful, especially if you are interested in a little government conspiracy. A subdivision has what they think is a bio-fuel plant in their neighborhood. A deadly explosion proves to them how wrong they were, and it is a race against the government, the military and time to save the survivors.
