This book is better suited to pulp readers as the basis of this story is built behind a one trick pony. On reflection I should say one blatantly obvious and overstated character disposition. This book is completely overrated and is mildly amusing at best. If after reading my review you choose to read this book you are a complete fire cracker.
The Rosie Project is a clever way of showing the Asperger person as a man in need of love......and finding it, despite all his pedantic ways of trying to outskirt the social abilities in which he has not yet acquired. Rosie herself is a clearly intelligent woman who manages to remove her own self from the Professor's expectations....and back in. Well done!
One of the funniest books I've read since Evanovich's "One For The Money". For TBBT enthusiasts, the main character Don Tillman is Sheldon Cooper's literary doppelgänger. Two thumbs up.
A perfect, one day, quarantine read. On occasion, laugh out loud funny. Deceivingly simple and heartwarming. A perfectly lovely happy ending. An opportunity to perceive the world through the eyes of someone considered "different" and to discover their true humanity and their worthiness of love.
Heartwarming novel that will leave you with a big smile on your face - laughed out loud a couple of times. Simsion's writing style is witty and engaging, and he crafts characters that are relatable and lovable.
Genetics professor Don Tillman is ready for a relationship and embarks on what he calls his Wife Project. With Asperger's tendencies, Don knows he has difficulty with social cues and empathizing with others. So he designs a questionnaire to find a compatible female life partner by beginning from a position of strength and comfort with logic. In the meantime he meets Rosie, who is trying to discover the identity of her biological father. Rosie does not behave in any predictable manner and thus Don's plan is hijacked by his unexpected growth of a relationship with her. The novel is an entertainingly comic with humor and heart, as Don and Rosie find surprising compatibilities and mutual acceptance. My favorite scene is when Don and Rosie, in an attempt to discover whether a certain professor is her father, share bartending duties at a country club event.
This book was a lot of fun to read. If you are a fan of the Big Bang Theory, you will see a lot of Sheldon in Don Tillman, albeit a Sheldon who embraces the idea of relationships and marriage. I appreciated the unique plot and offbeat, but not totally unrealistic characters. I don't have a lot of experience with Asperger's, so I cannot comment on how accurate Don's portrayal was, but he comes across and someone I'd like to meet. I'm looking forward to the sequel, although I wonder if Don's quirks will be as funny the second time around.
funny, clever, enjoyable. I really liked the main character Don, i wish I knew someone like him, Ihe is so endearing. His world of logic and routine is turned into unexpected adventure when falling for Rosie. A feel good ending although the last chapter seemed rushed. I will definetly be reading the Rosie Effect .
