Author Susan Stanley is a newspaper reporter who had access to a busy maternity unit at a large teaching hospital in Oregon. Contains a wide variety of individual stories of both the caregivers and the patients. Parts of the book were touching and compelling; other parts were dry. Overall, an interesting book for those interested in true life medical care.

Journalistic "fly on the wall" perspective of the doctors and patience in a big city maternity ward. Includes very disturbing, unforgettable stories.
