As I was reading a fascinating book by Susan Vreeland, "Luncheon of the Boating Party," I wanted to look at a large print of Renoir's painting of the same title. I found my old poster-size book of "25 Impressionist Masterpieces" and studied this painting as I read the account of Auguste Renoir creating this masterpiece. It was great to read about his artist colleagues during this exciting time in France. The descriptions of these Impressionistic paintings helped me look for certain signature styles of each of the artists. Art education at its best!
Simple, yet well laid out, full of good information on the 25 great pieces, and mostly, includes where they reside so you can see them at the museums holding them.
How could this book not be rated 5 stars? It is a collection of the best of the best, though of course the selection is open to debate. Additionally, the short text associated with each work is informative but not overbearing or self-absorbed. Beautiful book.
