With the Wizard and his Frightful Four Hundred hot on their trails, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are scrambling to separately unravel the mystery of the Wizard's new arsenal - and new motivations. But when the investigation brings the twins together again, will they be able to put their differences aside long enough to take down an enemy who wants to tear them apart forever?
Let's mark the date on the calendar. Nearly 20 years after his first appearance, we finally learned something about Speed's biological mother. We know that she's a divorcee out of New Jersey. Weirdly, Quicksilver was the one to first mention her. She gave birth to Speed and had some hand in raising him. Whereas, Wanda has only ever had TWO conversations with Speed, ever. Yet, for some reason, Speed eagerly refers to Wanda as "Mom."
The writer spent two seconds addressing this, saying that Speed and Quicksilver had "never been close." This is a true statement, though misleading. It suggests that they had reason to believe over the course of many years that they COULD have been close, but never seized the opportunity. When, in actuality, Speed had absolutely no reason to think of Wanda or Pietro as relatives, at all, until he was around 16. Even then, he was just told that they had a theory he was the spiritual reincarnation of one of Wanda's sons. This theory was never confirmed, but the characters just started acting as if it had been confirmed.
Anyway.
Vision participated in this issue. The "team" became Wanda, Pietro, and Vision. Which, honestly, I don't mind so much. I just want the retcons undone. I want Wanda and Pietro to truly be Magneto's mutant children once again. And I want characters to acknowledge the insanity of Tommy and Billy acting like they have some great relationship with Wanda, when really they have barely met her.
What I serious want to know, is how they got a guy to such great art and then waste it with such a boring story.
Like you have this split between Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, 3 issues in and we still don't know why. We don't know why the Wizard is being told what to do by an angel or why the angel is after the twins. Instead we get fight, talking, fight talking and so on but they're talking about nothing so it's not interesting. We got one issue left of this and I can't imagine the reveal making this worth reading there just isn't anything going for it.
