THE ULTIMATE X-MEN GO BACK TO SCHOOL! High school, that is! It's a new school year for Hisako as she tries to get a grasp on her new powers… Where she meets a cool, white-haired punk girl named Mei (A.K.A. Maystorm), who understands all too well the challenge Hisako faces. And they team up to embark on a creepy adventure to learn who is behind the creepy shadow that has been haunting - and taunting - them!
Following up on the jaw-dropping first issue by Peach Momoko, Ultimate X-Men #2 delivers another dose of creepy horror with Momoko's signature artistic brilliance. The unsettling environment and twisted vibes are still there, holding your attention with each panel. Momoko's art remains absolutely sublime in this extended setting.
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. I'm enjoying the story and the art, but it's really not X-Men related. Shouldn't we be seeing what happened to the notable mutants and mutant leaders of this new Ultimate timeline?
A solid second issue. Great art style. The horror feel is nice. I like the characters but don't love them. Wondering how this will connect to the overall X-Men world eventually.
Yep, I totally lost interest in the new Ultimate X-Men after this issue. Don’t like the art, not the region where this happend and totally not the story. Won’t read further…
Pretty good issue, but we don't quite have a definite premise as of yet. We are introduced to Mei, who appears to be this universe's version of Storm, but that means we are only following two Mutants, and they have not established themselves as "X-Men" yet. Nor is there any reference to a Charles Xavier equivalent. The comic, at this point, is basically the same idea as e.g. Jujutsu Kaisen, that Weekly Shōnen Jump brand of exorcist battle manga. That is, the Shadow thing just seems like a ghost right now, rather than a Mutant power, though the last few pages suggest it was projected by a fat guy's ability.
Anyway, I'm still interested enough to keep reading. I have issues #3-6 on the way.

By the second Volume, the series has established a strong tone. The colorful art has a way of shocking you when met with the reality of this darker story. I found myself doing double takes on a number of pages. Very unique panel work makes the pages flow and the writing is nothing to scoff at either. The characters are all well written with enough flaw and intrigue to keep you guessing as to what they'll do next. the overarching plot never leaves center stage while still allowing for the many motivations each character has to share the page. Definitely kept me reading until the end and I can't wait for the next Volume.
The book seemingly has nothing to do with the X-Men. It's just a comic with the name X-Men slapped onto it. It doesn't really even have a story. Does Peach Momoko not understand that in writing, you want to get the readers interested as soon as possible, but this comic doesn't do that. It doesn't even try to present some sort of story. The art itself tried to make it seem like it's a horror comic, but it fails at writing it that way. It's just mundane chit chat that pointless throughout the comic and nothing else. Yawn.
UY.
I enjoyed this more than I did the first issue. Maybe I am getting used to the art. Very haunting story with moody pictures. Recommended for fans of Manga or American comic book readers who would like to read something a little different than standard X-Men comics.
I really enjoyed the issue. The art is still cool, and we still have a creepy horror story that maybe feels a little out of place of typical Marvel stories.
Still curious to see how/if this will tie into the other Ultimate ongoings, but enjoying it regardless.
The Peach Momoko art is cool, but I need more story to justify the price of this comic.
I hope the addition of Maystorm improves the character dynamic of this book. Her personality complements Hisako's and adds a spunky vibe to this teen horror book.
My favourite of manga has always been the slow horror, so I like that this feels in line with that. Still not sure how this plays into everything else and why this is called X-Men, but I'm gonna not worry about that for this series and focus on the story it's telling
It’s following a Japanese style story structure with nothing happening for the first few chapters. I’m not sure what’s going to happen, but it’s interesting.
This continued to be unique and flesh out the main character and connect to mutants a little bit more. This is still really different, but I intend to give it a shot!
