7 books8 followersAlexandra Symeonidou is a Greek best-selling author of ten books, two children books and three French theater plays translated from old French to modern Greek. She became well known in Greece by her autobiography books "Nightmares in the Saudi Arabian Desert" and "Merciless Struggle" where she describes her life as a married woman to an important Saudi man. "Nightmare in the Saudi Arabian Desert" is her first book translated from Greek into English. After her classical studies in Athens Greece, she graduated from the University of Aix-En-Provence in France, where she studied French and English literature. She is fluent in French, English, German and Greek. She was awarded the "Kleopatra Award" from "Franco-Hellenique d' information" for "Nightmares in the Saudi Arabian Desert". She has been a candidate in the Municipal elections in Athens and belongs to many women's' lobbies. She is an expert on woman's rights and especially for woman's rights in Islam. She works as an author in Athens Greece.

This book irritated me more than it entertained me. The entire time I was reading it, it very much had a "woe is me" feel to it. I have a feeling that his version of the truth would provide the missing piece of the puzzle in her "dilemma".
For starters, the author had a handful of signs of abuse before she even married him. She willingly gave up her job and then attempted to make it seem as though her hand was forced.
She realized early on in the relationship that he was abusive and a cheat. She even insinuated that he was intimate with his own mother... Yet she chose to stay.
She had plenty of opportunities to leave before, and during, the marriage. He even put her on a plane back home, basically telling her that the marriage wasn't working out for him... Yet she (quite stubbornly and purposefully) returned to Saudi Arabia, only to make it seem as though she were trapped and had no way out.
I've read many books on this subject, as I find middle eastern culture to be quite fascinating. I definitely would not recommend this book.

Beware: THIS IS A PAGE TURNER
I usually have a hard time concentrating on books. But this one....... I could not stop once I started. This made me realize how hard it is to be a woman in Saudi Arabia and how happy I am free in my Country. And wow some of the moms love their sons so much, they can't let go! If you want a book that will suck you in and take you away from what is going on in the world, then this is the book for you. I always loved watching anything having to do with Saudi Arabia. I love how the men dress in the white Thobe. I find some of the men to be handsome. But this story made me realize how much women are not valued there. It's sad because I think their Country is rich in culture and their foods sound good. But unfortunately I couldn't survive there. This opened my eyes and made me think of how we must be vigilant as women to always fight for our rights because this could easily happen here in America too if we are not careful. I’m on to read her 2nd book!

It's all Greek to me.
A lot was lost in the translation of this book. The situation the author put herself in does sadly occur often and not all are so lucky to escape. For this reason it is important that these stories are told. Her telling of this horrific tale will hopefully prevent others from this same "seduction." The way it is written is hard to follow, almost as if she only escaped the situation 5 minutes ago. I wish this brave, intelligent woman good will because that experience has scarred her deeply.

Παρόλο που ήταν εκνευρίστηκο σε κάποια σημεία.. και όποιος το έχει διαβάσει μπορεί να καταλάβει το γιατί.. είναι μια πολύ ωραία ιστορία, σου δημιουργεί εικόνες και σε βάζει μέσα στα γεγονότα ολοκληρωτικά.

Όταν ξεκίνησα να διαβάζω αυτό το βιβλίο έχοντας ήδη διαβάσει το "ποτέ χωρίς την κόρη μου" που το θεωρώ αξιόλογο,δε περίμενα σε καμία περίπτωση ότι θα μου δημιουργούσε τόσο άσχημα συναισθήματα όχι μόνο για τον θύτη αλλά και για το ίδιο το "θύμα".Το "θύμα" του βιβλίου λοιπόν, μιας και πρόκειται για αληθινή ιστορία, είναι μια γυναίκα καλλιεργημένη που θέλει να ταξιδέψει σε όλο τον κόσμο και να ανοίξει τα φτερά της.Δουλεύει λοιπόν ως αεροσυνοδός στην Σαουδική Αραβία και όπως άπειρες φορές μας περιγράφει απολαμβάνει και στιγμές χλίδας μιας και εκεί ο χρυσός και το χρήμα ρέουν άφθονα.Αλλά πάντα μερικώς αποστασιοποιημένη καθώς είναι και προσγειωμένο άτομο.Μέχρι που γνωρίζει έναν Σαουδάραβα ο οποίος την πολιορκεί στενά και ως δια μαγείας ενώ αισθάνεται άβολα από το στενό μαρκάρισμα και την όλη συμπεριφορά του προς το πρόσωπό της μιας και αυτός προσπαθεί να της περάσει την ιδεολογία του με το ζόρι(ότι δηλαδή η γυναίκα είναι ένα άβουλο ον και ότι άλλη αηδία μπορείς να φανταστείς) τον ερωτεύεται εν τέλη και παρατάει δουλειά (μιας και τη διέταξε ο αφέντης έτσι να κάνει) και τον ακολουθεί στην Τζέντα. Και αρχίζει το μαρτύριο.Και εδώ θα πω εγώ. . αφού ήξερες κυρία μου που πήγαινες να μπλέξεις, ποιος σου φταίει? Και σαν να μην έφτανε αυτό, ενώ είχε τόσες ευκαιρίες να φύγει μιας και τις έδινε και ο ίδιος, αυτή εκεί, καθόταν από εγωισμό γιατί μια αξιοπρέπεια την έχουμε βρε αδερφέ.Θα μας εκμεταλλεύονται και μετά θα μας πετάνε σαν στημένη λεμονόκουπα?Ή μήπως νόμιζε ο αφέντης ότι θα της έπαιρνε τα πολύτιμα υπάρχοντά της και θα την πετούσε σαν σκουπίδι.Και με αυτά και με αυτά φτου κι απ'την αρχή. Κατά τα άλλα παίρνεις μια εικόνα για τον τελείως διαφορετικό τρόπο ζωής αυτών των ανθρώπων και τις αντιλήψεις που έχουν για τη γυναικεία φύση που κάθε άλλο παρά τιμητικές είναι.

Chilling story.
How very frightening to be trapped with a deranged person in a country where there is no help. The story was riveting, however the editing is distracting.

hard to read
