A NEW ERA FOR THE MERC WITH A MOUTH, AND A GUN, AND A SWORD... CODY ZIGLAR (Futurama, Miles Spider-Man) has a wild ride planned for the Merc with the mouth! Introducing a terrifying new villain who won't stop until he catches Wade in his DEATH GRIP. But all work and no play makes Deadpool a very dead boy!
Exactly as fun as a Deadpool comic should be. Great writing, action, and humor. The villain so far feels like a generic dud, though. I hope this improves in future issues.
Well, this was slightly worse than mid? And I really wanted to like Princess. But Deadpool is supposed to be fun while this just felt joyless and like I was supposed to feel guilty both about Wade’s love life and his victims. A killer symbionts dog is so cool but the interactions between Wade and Princess were so awkward. Stilted even, and ugh, just overdoing it on the whole papa thing. The last scene was exciting when I realized what it was but it just all felt flat and awkward to me too.
I liked the art and the new villian might have some potential. It’s not the worst thing I’ve read. I did get this for free with Marvel insider points so at least I did’t spend money on it I guess
Clunky localization really brought this one down. The Montreal setting seemed sourced from Wikipedia, and the bundles of needlessly-declared "Canadian cash" (why would a Canadian character, in Canada, specify that money is Canadian?) were drawn on the page as... bundles of American hundred dollar bills.
Deadpool is back in another new #1 but this time he's got a symbiote daughter cat? I'm not quite sure, Marvel seem to have dropped off with Deadpool recently because he can't seen to drum up the numbers for an ongoing title, this is the latest attempt.
With just the one issue, I'll be honest I was kind of hooked. It's good the endearing Deadpool that we are used to, he's back to mercing for money and there is new threats that get introduced to that I'm looking forward to exploring a bit more. I didn't expect Wade to get tangled up in a magic circle and have to take on literal wizards but it's actually really fun.
I like the symbiote cat but I'm not sure it's here for the long run, I suspect it was introduced a previous volume and the writer is just doing is best with it. So far she protects Deadpool and calls him dad so it's better than the kid Duggan gave him. I woudl recommend this if you like Daniel Way's run, the tone is similair but slightly softer and if you like Cody's take on Spider-Man well you've been hooked lined and sinkered.
