Bethany Claire is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the Scottish time travel romance novels in Morna’s Legacy Series.
Bethany’s love of storytelling has been a lifelong passion but, convinced it would serve her best to follow a “conventional” career path, she tucked that passion away and went off to college.
Fast forward four years and about six major changes later, she realized the stories simply were not going to stay tucked away. Months away from graduating with a degree in elementary education, she finally realized writing was the only career that would make her happy.
So one day in the middle of a summer education course, she got up in the middle of class and walked to the registrar’s office and withdrew from the university on the spot. Since then, she has devoted herself to writing full time and is following her dreams.
This was just as good as the first book if not better! Bethany Claire has really hit the perfect recipe on this series. It’s funny, it’s got magical bits and hunky Scottish warriors. You really can’t ask for much more in a guilty pleasure read! I enjoyed getting to know the characters better and the addition of new ones, they really added to the stories! These books quite remind me of Outlander except much less heavy and detail oriented, just quick fun reads!
I decided I wanted to read another Scottish/time-travel series after falling in love with Outlander.
This series just isn't doing it for me.
The author tells an entertaining story but there is very little character development. Characters are all over the place like she dreamed them up simply to tie up a loose end or take a short-cut and not because they were supposed to be a part of the story as a whole. I find that I'm not attached to any characters save one or two. Every situation is just glossed over, and while it's nice to know how things turn out so quickly, a little build-up and anticipation would make for a better read.
I haven't decided if I'll continue the series or not in the future. But for right now, it's a hard pass.
Arran and Blaire's story (while good in it's own right) didn't suck me in the way Eoin and Bri's story in book one did. I was more into the plot of what was going on with Arran as laird than I was with how Blaire and he would get back together.
I'm happy that Claire decided to soften Blaire a bit too. She was super harsh in the first book and I wasn't immediately drawn to her story. I liked her want for independence and applauded her that, but she was just so damn rude to everyone.
Ah, yet another addition to the Morna’s Legacy series. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to discover that the second book in the series revolved around Arran and Blaire, and their complicated and often tragic love story. I fell in love with the two characters during the first installment to the series and was excited to delve into their story.
Technically speaking, the story was well written. The narrative moved along at a steady pace, was easy to read, and engaging. There weren’t any noticeable typo’s or punctuation problems, nor any awkward sentences or grammatical foibles to stumble over. I was sucked into the story right away and felt compelled to find out what would happen to the characters as I read. I couldn’t have asked for more!
Like the first book, however, the story wasn’t without it’s problems. Though a little slower paced that the first book, the plot was far more complicated. Problems seemed to be thrown at the various characters right and left—dire problems that should not have easily been overcome… unfortunately, they were usually fixed with little trouble. Many of the issues that arose for the characters were resolved almost before they knew about the problems to begin with, or very easily thereafter. It seemed like fate and luck were on their side, and because of it, it was hard to believe that there was any real danger of the characters not getting their happy ending. I really wished that the tension had been dragged out a little more, and the almost insurmountable problems hadn’t been so easily solved.
I can’t complain too much, though. Despite the all-too-easy way the plot was handled, I did enjoy the story. The characters have evolved and begun to develop more since the first book in the series, and the author stayed true to their voices. Overall, I’m glad I picked up the book. Despite it’s negatives, I feel the positives far outshine them. I’m interested to see how the series progresses in the next few books.
Arran Conall was the brother of Eoin, the Laird of Castle Conall. Arran was losing himself to the grief he felt after sending his love Blaire MacChristy forward into the twentieth century. In the first book of the series (love Beyond Time) Arron and Blaire were separated as the story of Eoin and Briell Montgomery was told.
Now he grieves for her and doesn't know how to get her back. He makes some hasty decisions that he may live to regret.
Blaire is not accustomed to the modern concepts and appliances of the new time she finds herself in and is slow to adjust. When she is facing a chance to go back and follow her heart she decides to go back. Once there, nothing is as perfect as she had imagined. There were some huge announcements that would attempt to break her. could she be strong and live with the decision she had made. So many pitfalls and twists and turns befell these two that it almost seemed deliberate.
IT is another wonderful read. It made me anxious and happy and sad for them all. So much happens in this story that it is impossible to become bored. I am anxious to read more about these couples and their families in the following books. This book was every bit as good as the first.
After reading the first book in Morna's Legacy, I had such high hopes for the second. I should have heeded the other reviews. The fake Scottish lingo is a total turn off, and the story doesn't have the detail nor richness of the first book. I found I didn't like the main character due to the awfulness of the lingo which seemed totally artificial. A native Scot also commented negatively on the "voice" of the book. Thank goodness Ms. Clare came back to her senses with the novella that follows this book, because it was much better.
It provides more closure for the first book (if you were seeking it), but is lacking. It has some good escapism in it, but the plot is easily picked apart & there isn't anything really believable at all. That being said, it's an easy read & not unpleasant. It reads like YA fiction with a dash of bodice-ripping, Fabio-ladden, romance novel jammed in....or deeply thrust in, I should say.
This series is beginning to feel like it was written by a middle schooler. Lack of character development and implausibility reigns on every page. If you want a quick read that just makes you chuckle a little and be in the mood for a date with your significant other, you've probably found it.
While I still like the characters of this book, the storyline is a bit unbelievable. I don’t think back then that any man would feel guilty about cheating on his wife as back then most rich men did have mistresses and their wives accepted it whether they liked it or not. So the whole thing of the evil guy (Twon?) thinking that Aaran would be overcome with guilt for cheating on his wife (one whom he didn’t even love or respect) was unbelievable to me. The other parts of the story with Edana lying about being pregnant and then taking the poison that he gave her to mimic a miscarriage, the fact that she believed everything Twon told her and didn’t listen to her gut about not drinking the herbal concoction, the message about Blaire dying not being delivered to AAran and the messenger being forced to lie about the delivery, the gardener’s wife being murdered before the gardener had been threatened, and Twon’s end all were very predictable. Not a terrible story, just it’s all been done before and was very predictable.
What was not predictable was the very short time period where Bri went to the future to go to Misty’s wedding. She catches the groom cheating and says nothing to her best friend?! What kind of friend is she? She was like oh well, Mitsy will figure it out. Too bad I won’t be around to comfort her. WTH!!!
I was really expecting to see more of Blaire dealing with living in the future. I honestly didn’t like Aaran and I didn’t like Aaran for her. I would have liked this book much better if it was about Blaire living in the future, where she meets some guy (who teaches her how to survive in the modern world) and she falls in love with him. Since she has Bri’s i.d and Bri said she’d give her access to her bank account, it would have been easy for Blaire to stay in the future.
Another exciting episode in the lives of the Conall Clan. In this episode we have Aaran who is Laird Eoin's brother in love with the woman that was supposed to marry Eoin, Blaire. But Bri took her place and fell in love with Eoin and married him. Aaron was smitten with Blaire the moment he saw her. Although at the time she was engaged to Eoin, they fell in love. When Eoin married Aaran thought he married Blaire when in fact he married Bri. Blaire took Bri's place in the future. The two fated lovers were torn apart by time, by a false marriage, by an engagement and only then were they able to finally be together. What they did not know was that there were three people setting up their demise. There is so much emotion, drama, feelings, danger in this book. It was hard to put down. I was engaged in the story from the first page. The only thing I did not like was the price of the book. It is a little out of my budget and so my adventure with the Conall Clan has come to an end. I truly enjoyed reading this and highly recommend it.
I purchased the first 4 books on a deal. I was looking for something similar to Outlander. I've since learned that everything else pales in comparison. These were a noted improvement after the "After Climeri" series I had started and abandoned with haste. I did find many grammatical errors and typos, but the characters were interesting, the story line moved along well and the storyline kept me reading. I won't continue on with the series, feeling that the formula is a bit too predictable for me, but it was a great lazy weekend series to read.
Well the second book was as good as the first but in a different way. I really liked the suspense, the time travel, the intrigue, the romance. I didn’t expect one of the problem people to be got rid of so soon, thought they would have to contend with that person for the whole series. Some of the problems were solved so fast that the characters didn’t even know they were in trouble, but I knew and there was enough tension there to satisfy me❤️❤️❤️❤️ Looking forward to the rest of the books and whatever befalls whichever of the characters they portray in them📗📕📓📒
A Scottish time travel romance. Overall, I liked this story. It had several plot twists and turns, plus a REALLY evil villain. You'll be SO glad when he gets what he deserves. The main characters are very likeable, and after they finally achieve their hard-won HEA you'll feel like cheering for them. I don't want to share a Spoiler, but I'll just say that the one and only thing I'll say is that I didn't care for the circumstances under which they had their initial sexy encounter. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
A cute time-traveling story about a Kindergarten teacher who, when sifting through a castle ruins with her archeologist mother, is transported back to 17th century Scotland just months before the castle and its inhabitants are attacked and massacred. Will she be able to change history?
I loved the story. Morna, the wizard sister of the old laird, has a series of prophesies that are turned into a series of stories. Easy to read and fun.
I have listened to the audiobook of this set 1 of this series and have consequently posted this review for each book in the set.
This set of books , all hinging on Morna's matchmaking and magic have been a joy to listen to. The audio rendition has added to the writer's techniques of engaging the reader with romance, drama and enchantment. I have enjoyed the 4 books in this set.
If I could give 0 stars I would. I liked the first book, but not this one. The advice given to do what is right for you does not take into account the toll that infidelity takes on a person. It should never be glamorized or thought of as okay. Such a disappoint after the first book. Blaire and Arran are two incredibly selfish and horrible people. Doubt I will read any more from this author. Putting her in my 'Do Not Read' pile.
The first book was mostly Bri's story, though Blaire shared the spotlight. This book was Blaire's. Not sure if it was really worse than the first book, or it was just a cumulative effect of reading them one after the other, but, although I did want to know what happened to the main characters, there wasn't a lot of depth, and the language really grated on me.
If you enjoy romances novels, especially if you love time-travel romances, you MUST already know about Bethany Claire. She writes clever stories and these "sweet" tales are terrific. They are the same stories as the Morna's tales...and equally as enjoyable. If you're looking for a series of stories to read, look no further.
As I said in the review of the 1st book, I got the second one immediately, since I was(I admit) curios about how will the story progress. Again, as a big lover of all things Outlander, this was another cute time travel romance novel, not great but a fun, easy read! I think I will continue with the books, I am intrigued hihi!
I got this book from my local library and I loved it! It was every bit as good as the first book. We get to have all our favorite characters together and Arran and Blaire get their story. There is lots of danger, heartbreak and excitement. I look forward to book 3! There's nothing better than a Scottish time travel book!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! It is still time travel but with several twist. Just when you think it is going to be like all the other time travels Ms. Claire throws another twist into the mix that you may or may not have seen coming. Suspense, adventure and intrigue. I recommend this book whole heartedly!
Not as good as the first one as far as the story goes. I as happy to be done. Some pretty graphic horrible scenes at the end with what the bad guy does and it took me off guard to read it. I didn’t like it. I might read the next one because it has Bri’s friend from the present in it. My prediction that it’s the love story between her and Baolan.
Unexpectedly, I enjoyed this book even more than the first. It had all of the elements as the first; romance, time travel, adventure plus some mystery! In addition, there were some plot twist that surprised me, albeit in a very good way.
Second book in the series was equally good I enjoyed the characters wondering how long the series can go on before I get Ford with characters this one implied that Misty's coming into it so we'll see what happens one another character from current time goes back to the 16 hundreds looking forward to book 3
This is part of the Morna's Legacy Time Travel series that I love. There are around 12 books and I love all of them that include people traveling back and forth in time in Scotland. Each book is based on a certain couple helped with love by Morna but they all intact with each other. Some are based more on people moving back in time and some move forward but they all interact together.
This book was ignored in my 'to read' list for many months before I gave it any attention. I'm so glad that I finally decided to give it a try because it was good.
After reading the first book I couldn't resist the continuing story. This book has lots of love, regret and action. Even though I enjoyed both books, I may or may not continue the series.
I like the idea of time travel which ends up with romance and mystery with lots of action. This book is fixes the Scottish lass who from the past went to the future and returned to the past with the help of Brianna and Morna. She gets her true love in the end but not without lots of troubles and action.
