The Super Advanced Robotic Assistant (SARA) develops an annoying crush on Zack in this Galaxy Zack chapter book adventure.
Zack can’t wait to test out Sara, the new Super Advanced Robotic Assistant that his dad’s been working on. At first she’s great and super helpful! Sara helps Mom unpack clothes for her store at lightning speed. She plays catch with Luna. And she turns into a one-bot band for the twins. But when Sara develops a huge crush on Zack, the fun is over! Can Zack figure out a way to fix this mixed-up robot?
With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Galaxy Zack chapter books are perfect for beginning readers.
There's another planet hop, but at least it wasn't another vacation. In this one, Mr. Nelson has completed a new robot called Sara (Super Advanced Robotic Assistant), and he's going to test it out on his family before taking it to planet Onyo for a presentation in an auditorium filled with intercelestial(?)/interplanetary(?) scientists. Sara has the ability to learn new things and to adapt and update herself with new information. The family ends up watching a mooshy love fest film that dad and Zack don't want to watch, but do, anyway. Sara asks to join and starting the next day, they start to act different around Zack. Before long, with Ira's help (Ira is a robot built into the house), realizes that Sara has basically figured out what it means and how to have a crush on someone. With heteronormativity, O'Ryan chose to assign the female gender onto Sara (even though robots don't really have genders; not like humans do) and the person she decides to have her learned crush on is Zack. I get it that he's the main character, but heterosexualization and heteronormativity have always been unnecessary. Why the robot couldn't have been made male is a mystery to me. Hmm. At least the planet hop was basically a go-with-your-parent-to-work day thing. I can hardly begrudge Zack going along with his father to work thing when I partook of that day twice growing up. I think I'm also going to stop hoping that Zack isn't gonna planet hop in every single sequel because if it hasn't stopped by book 9, it's just not likely to stop at this point. Still, it would be nice to at least see a book that explains more about life on Nebulon. That would be very interesting. 3 stars. This was a bit amusing.
Galaxy Zack: The Annoying Crush was totally awesome! Okay, so let me tell you all about it. Zack is this super excited kid who lives on Nebulon, where lots of cool stuff is made. His dad made a robot named Sarah, and Zack is really, really, really excited to meet her!
Sarah is a special robot who learns things super fast. At first, she talks like a robot, but because there are people around, she quickly learns to talk like a human. That's so cool, right? But things start to get a little crazy when she watches a love movie with Zack and the others. The movie has kissing and crushes, and guess what? Sarah learns how to love too!
And here comes the tricky part. Sarah ends up having a HUGE crush on Zack! Can you believe it? But don't worry, they fix it by reprogramming her. But there's this exciting part where Zack and Sarah are together, and you've got to read the book to find out what happens then. It's so much fun, trust me!
My most favorite part is when Sarah comes home and she's like this super speedy robot. She rolls around, grabs a box, and opens it in a flash with her blade arms. And guess what? Her arms can turn into all sorts of things, like blades or even human arms. Imagine that!
The book teaches us a really cool lesson. It's great to learn new things, just like Sarah does. But we need to be careful not to overdo it or get carried away. Learning is awesome, but we should also know when to stop. So, if you like robots, crushes, and really exciting adventures, you should totally read "Galaxy Zack: The Annoying Crush." It's a blast!
Zack is super excited about the new android prototype his dad is brining home for further testing. If the android does well, not only will he not have to clean his room, he might get to visit the planet of Onyo when his dad presents the android for possible production. At first things start out very well, but the robot starts learning a little too much, especially from the romantic movie his mom and sisters pick for movie night. Now, Zach is a bit worried about the success of the android and how much more annoyance he can take.
This is not so much a story about how to deal with crushes, as being honest with your parents about issues you are facing. Which is important. And I love that as soon as Zack is honest with his parents, there's a quick and easy solution rather than the convoluted way he was trying to fix things. Another great adventure with Galaxy Zack. I love the way the author wraps great lessons into engaging stories in a super fun world. Highly recommended to lower grade scifi fans.
Good story, great illustrations. I would've given it a 4 if they didn't use "grape" for "great" in most of the book. That was really annoying and they didn't even stick to using "grape" in place of "great" throughout the whole book. Inconsistent.
--- Parts that stood out to me:
p4 pulse-ball (basketball) p.52-53 movie about one sided crush, woman turns into stalker, finally gets guy to not be able to imagine life without her.
typos -- or if not typos just really stupid: p5 how grape would it be to get to see Onyo? (GREAT not GRAPE) p.9 "This is going to be grape!" exclaimed Zack. p.25 "Grape!" chirped Zack. p.35 "I hope they are grape." p.41 "Grape!" p.47 "... a really grape movie..." p48-49 "Rock Solid is totally the grapest."
Unlike other Galaxy Zack books, which are just as tacky but at least encourage valor, knowledge and adventure, this book propagates lazy stereotypes about young humans as well as emerging technology & mixes it in a crass manner. I'm offended as a boy, as a father and as a technologist.
Despite being rather accommodative in my reading taste, this book is an utter waste. yuck!
I did not like this book because I do not like crushes. I enjoyed this book because I liked the part when Ira took off the bow on Sara's head. After that, Sara did not have a crush on Zack anymore.
I bought the first few books of this series to test it out and give to my oldest nephew and he has been loving them so far. I can't wait to give him the ones I have now. He'll enjoy them a lot.
My son has loved this entire series, but he could not get into this one. He's only four, so I suspect that the change in Illustrator has something to do with it.
