The story that Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto have crafted here is arguably the quintessential Black Widow read.
The story, told over the 20 issues, is thrilling, action packed and, in some places, very dark.
I really appreciated that the story allowed for us to see a flawed Natasha, to show her history being tragic and brutal really lends credence to her, somewhat cliche, redemption arcs. The glob trotting aspects paired with the character cameos just flow so, so well. Her, albeit brief, team up with X-23 is a mix of fun, violent and oddly sweet.
The consistent art by Phil Noto is excellent throughout and pairs well with the tone of the writing.
I appreciate the drama surrounding the allegations against Edmondson but I am very happy Marvel put this collection out. I wish it would’ve released alongside the slew of Black Widow re-releases around the movie but I am glad it’s here now.

A great piece of Espionage fantasy. It's great to read a Black Widow story unburdened by whatever whirlwind romance took the writer's fancy or by involvement in The Avengers. We see her first and foremost as a weapon, a weapon with humanity and feelings, but a weapon nonetheless.

Like most Widow stories, Natasha is driven to right her previous wrongs. Taking any job that can put her in striking distance of the worst organised criminals on the planet. I did sort of tire of Natasha's imposter syndrome "I'm not a hero" patter as the series went on. Especially when I've seen her save lives and the world multiple times. She is a good person who feeds stray cats and stops domestic abuse.

It tows the rare line between the gritty realistic warfare and the fantastical element of fhe Marvel Universe.

The humanity in Phil Noto's art really highlights the conflict in Widow's heart at various moments in the plot. The facial expressions are exceptional. Maybe not my favourite Black Widow plotline but still a very solid outing.

This was even better than the Waid run! Edmondson strikes a great balance of thrilling espionage stories, world building, and compelling characters. This run starts off pretty slow. A lot of the early stories are just Natasha going from job to job until she finally encounters Chaos. This secret shadow organization has its fingers across the globe. As she unravels this conspiracy we get glimpses into her past, and by the end we really don't have all the answers.

The best part of this book was the final two issues. We get to see what Natasha was like when working as an agent for the red room, and what she was willing to do for them. It's compelling, tragic, and gave a new context to view this book in. She's really trying to atone for her past, and that final story did an excellent job at providing that context.

Lastly, the art in this comic was great. I loved the water color style of it all, and the use of colors was excellent. I wish more artists would do water color in comics, as it gives it such a different flavor. Overall this was an amazing read. If you're a fan of spy type stories then this is up your alley. Even if you've never read a Black Widow comic before.

- I didn't know anything about this series before opening the volume and it was awesome.

- I haven't read much Black Widow, so I don't know if Isaiah the whole system from Nat sending money to former victim's families was created by Edmondson or not, but it's a great idea and creates a really cool lore for the character.

- Edmondson writes Black Widow as someone who is kind of numb from all the stuff she has done and just keeps going due to regret.

- Phil Noto's art is a little bit "expressionless" at times, but the storytelling is perfect for the story.

- The story takes a little bit of time to take off, but when it does you just breeze through it.

- Why are there only 20 issues??? I could read 20 more of this, damn it.

- Fave Issue: #10, flashback with Hawkeye.

- Least Fave Issue: Punisher #9, same story from another point of view. Meh.

- 4.5/5: Great self-contained story.

Even though it took me only forty minutes to read this book I was putting it off for as long has I could. I have always been interested by Natasha’s story but at the same time I didn’t really feel like there was an overall plot until 3/4ths into the comic. Which was very annoying because some issues had a story while other times there was just missions. I will admit some of her pair ups were fun but nothing really helped more things forward to an end goal in my opinion

There’s a lot to like about this series. A lot of the writing is insightful, and the character development is really good. Still, I gave it 4 stars not 5 because those last 2 issues were excessively dark imo. Like, I get the point the author was trying to make, but they went too far for it to feel completely genuine. Plus, it was just plain unenjoyable to read for me

Reading comics can be frustrating sometimes because they make the movies look way worse in comparison. I don't understand how movie studios can drop the ball so badly when all they need to do is film the fantastic storyboard that has already been made for them. Imagine a world where the Black Widow movie was more like Mission Impossible 4 in quality and less like Mission Impossible 2…

The artwork in this is so simply stunning and gorgeous, and the writing is so taut. It's like watching a really good Bond film but without any of the male gaze that typically infects Widow stories.

Very, very, good book. Absolutely nails the character of the black widow with stories that are interesting the whole way through the book. Art is stunning - just fits the writing and the character perfectly. Don’t sit on this one - get it read and have a great time.
