Okay, I can't finish this..... Is there some kind of un-written rule that a female lead have to such a demoralizing bitch. Abby and Lucy spend 60% of these books being bitches and everyone condon's it and say that's how walkers are. But when other's return the favor it's a problem??????? This take away from the story and makes it hard to follow.
The relationship between abby and Brace seems force.
I like the concept of the series but the characters needs some work or less of the personalities. Abby and Lucy personality is really taking away from making this a great series.....
My comments on the whole series: 2.5 stars The walker saga consists of seven books. The first couple were decent enough but somewhere in the middle I lost my patience. The characters started to really irritate me. The dialogue was repetitive and lacked real substance. The plot lines were predictable.
Everyone magically has a mate. Most of them are even true mates, I think.
Abby cannot stay focused on the very serious plot points when a big moment is happening. She's constantly distracted by how hot she finds brace. Or how much she loves this person or that. You know how sometimes something big is happening and a character will reflect on life, love, and/or loss? This happened just about every other paragraph.
I think the dialogue got worse as the series went on. My personal favorites were the overuse of "word," "awesomesauce," and "what the effing heck" variations. I think at one point Abby said crap three times and then remarked that she needed to watch her swearing.
Lucy, the best friend, became seriously annoying as the series went on. She didn't really have a purpose. She was just there. And got mad often. And then laughed with Abby? Idk.
The big battle that had been building since the first book took place at roughly 80% through book seven. It was short. And not that thrilling.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The level of stupidity is upped a whole lot in this book and I have a serious hate going on for it atm.
Apart from that I still feel the world building is sort of ridiculous. Like sure on a planet called Crais, there's a plant called 'Craisly' (I shit you not. Like the author couldn't bother to actually think up a name) and the leaf of this plant can protect you from the planets'sun's. A leaf. Two suns that can burn people alive until there's only ash left. A LEAF?!
another GREAT installment in the walker series. it makes me laugh and be sad with the characters and i think for a while there i was with lucy in wanting to whoop fury's ass that was a little annoying i wish that there would have been a little more with her character but i do understand that this is abby's story and that the other characters are just to help progress the storyline and the way that the characters weave together is very well written. i cannot wait to see what comes next. love colt he was a wonderful addition i think lucy is in for a ride woo woo
I felt this book was a lot like the previous 2, as they are going through the same motion. I loved the idea that these books have but I don't know if it's the way its written or what, I just didn't like it. Also, the personalities of the main characters are very annoying.
I like the Walker Saga. The audiobooks are nice and I get through them pretty fast. I do enjoy listening to the story I read a long time ago. Even Jaymin's early work is not lacking. I love all the storys I have read so far from this author or a cooperation with James Tate.
I'm officially addicted to this series. I love the kick ass women and their supportive alpha males. Throw in an evil nemesis and young love, I'm all in!
Here is the thing: I have read the first two books in this series and I loved them so much I literally wanted to eat them! The third book though, was not as good anymore due to the fact that all of the books in this series go through the same motion.
As in Spurn, Crais starts with a new POV which introduces the new half-Walker character which itself is ok but for some reason it bothered me. It was just the same as the other book and I would have liked a slight change to differentiate from the previous book.
The feeling of a certain repetitiveness never left me throughout the entire book. So, I guess this is one of the reasons why I only gave 3 stars for Crais. It felt as if Miss Eve just kind of copy/pasted the secong book and only changed the world they are currently in.
Nevertheless, this was a good read with a fascinating fire world which really makes me want to go there and explore every little crevice. That seems to be a spacialty of Jaymin Eve's! She is so creative and her worlds seem so freaking real!
Other than the 'Groundhog Day' feeling the book evoked in me, it was a solid story with the lovely girl-bitch banter club (Oh Lucy and Abby, I must admit I want to be your BFF!!) which has found a new member on planet Crais! Whooot ;) Also, the love story/stories (yes, my loves, plural!!) are still intense and wonderful just as they should be!!
All in all, Crais was good but lacked a certain degree of should we call it spontaneity!?
Awesome! It's very hard to keep a good pace in a story. Specially if this particular story is so complicated and well thought as the Walker Saga. There are lots of worlds, cultures, secrets, enemies, fights, friends, romance, characters and wow...the list keeps growning. Then, what about 3 books in a roll? How can you have a balance? Almost impossible. So, you can imagine my excitement when this one was as good as First World and Spurn (maybe even better, if I think about it). No complaints at all. Having the Half Walkers Team growning in number was even greater. The lengh of the book was great, time enough for action, for crisis, enough to gather together and to love. Very well orchestrated. Some mysteries were reveled and new ones were made. And about the ending I had time to say: 'I want more!' but at the same time say: 'ok, it was good, I had enough to keep me till Regali'. So congrats to Jaymin Eve for such and amazing story, it was awesome to be immersed in the Walker Saga world. Hands down, it was abso-freaking-lutely the best book of the year (5 star rating justified).
Book 3 picks up on the Planet Crais. Simply put, a hot as hades world with red skinned/white haired folks, and their neighbors/enemies with black skin and totally bald heads. We meet a fiery chick (pun totally intended), Fury. Though I respect Fury as a great character, and I think Jaymin Eve did a fantastic job writing her, she's not my favorite. I'm still a huge fan of Abbs and Luce. Word.
Fury is all attitude, but she gets better towards the end of the book.
Again, we're introduced to more characters...Fury, Dune, Colt, and Magenta. Abbs and Luce are still a hot duo. Verbally kicking butt left and right. We learn a little bit more about petite Luce who is more powerful than anyone thought. Abbs' powers continue to increase and surprise everyone. Cujo, I mean Colt, seems to take a fancy to our sweet and tenacious Luce. Brace is Brace *sigh* Lucas is still in the picture, but not as prominent.
The seventine are wreaking havoc across the worlds, and thousands upon thousands of Walkers are uniting to strategize.
There's action, and hint-hint...action. If you catch my drift.
Loved this book, especially the last 2/3rds. Book 4, here I come.
My least favourite thus far. I am really not a fan of the obsessive, possessive "love" portrayed in a lot of novels in recent years. I skipped a lot of Brace and Abby scenes because it was so repetitive: "Oh my God you're so hot"; "You're my life. Also, omg you're so hot"; "You're amazing. Did I mention you're hot?"; "Your lips. So hot". Ughhhh. And the possessiveness thing. I HAAAATE the territorial nature of the relationship. From both of them. Heaven forbid you even glance at another person. It really annoyed me. And to be honest, Brace is quite meh as a main love interest. I wish we could see more of Lucas. It really frustrates me that Abby is such a dick to him for no reason. He goes through some really crappy stuff, and she is nice for all of 5 seconds before reverting to unnecessarily mean behaviour. Not that I think she needs to be nice to him just because. But it seems really immature.
I enjoyed the other aspects of the story. I am excited to see more of Colt and Magenta, and I really want to see the dynamic with the half-Walkers change and grow. Lucy is great. I love her sass and can't wait to learn more about exactly what she is.
Again, like the first two books, this was brilliant. I love how in every book we discover a new world, some might say it get a bit repetitive, but NO, it doesn't. Yes we discover new world every book, but each world is so different. Some might say "Oh, but its not original, theres the hot world, the water world and so on" that may be the case however Jaymin does it so well that that fact doesn't matter, because you just want to explore these worlds. Definite must read!
This adventure was quite a lot of fun! Although I liked Fury, then I got annoyed by her, I'm still totally loving Lucy and Abby and Brace <3 Great adventure, and I'm not even reading these, I'm devouring them at this point <3
I could not stand fury in this book. I didn’t expect all the girls to get along right away but she was such a brat and it was annoying. Other than that the story stayed interesting right up to the end.
Finally, my personal hell is over! Damn my completionist ways of having to finish the whole set in my kindle library. I guess I should be thankful that I got the first three books for free, however it is a struggle to be thankful when every book, especially the last was a real grievance to get through.
I don’t know what to say in this review that hasn’t already been said in previous ones for First World and Spurn. Crais continues on with the same issues with Mary Sue characters suffering from special snowflake syndrome, only now they get an even worse treatment of that syndrome. Suddenly, without struggle or natural progression Abby gets even more powers that no one else has and everyone notices how beautiful she is in every freaking chapter. Lucy gets soothsayer powers (because why the hell not?) and is immediately the most powerful soothsayer alive. Brace is like a god on crack, and yes, why not introduce new powerful werewolf characters as part of the group? Side note, lets also throw in some zombies, fairies, dragons and gremlins while we’re at it. I swear the sheer ridiculousness to it all made me expect that at any moment a purple unicorn defecating rainbow glitter would just gallop by.
It was so unrealistically ridiculous that I can’t help but wonder if the author had any sort of structure or plan when she wrote this, or any other book in the series for that matter. I highly doubt it honestly, with the way it is written with every genre, creature and plot twist known to man haphazardly thrown in there. It feels more like she made it up as she wrote it and whatever happened happened. It was very noticeable with the plot holes and how illogical some things were. For example, what was the point of even gathering all half-walkers if the seventines could not be freed without Abby anyway? Or during all the messy chaos when would Brace have had the time to build Abby a house? And suddenly Brace had a sister that went missing though that had never been mentioned before or seems to have had any impact on Brace personality previously. It all was just very messy with plot twist after plot twist, and new creatures after new creatures.
What makes it the most illogical is the wonky timeline to the story. What happened in the story made it seem like hours or a few days had past at most, but then suddenly the story told us it had been weeks or a month. This is very telling of how badly any sort of development was handled in the book. Characters that had just officially met (ehem, Dune and Fury) was immediately head over heels in love and acted like they known each other for forever. The same with Abby and her parents having known each other for ... what, a month? had a real relationship with cutsie cringy nicknames as if she had been raised by them. And then Lucas and Abby apparently having some connection that made her uncomfortable, yet they have previously never really interacted that much and in this book Abby was a downright bitch to him for no apparent reason whatsoever.
Not only that, but the way emotion was handled in the story was like commercial breaks on a tv. First we had all action and obnoxious jokes and dialogues, and then the Abby had to stop for a bit to show emotions and then right back to regular scheduled programming. This was extra apparent in the beginning without Brace. Abby was her normal Mary Sue self with no indication of heartbreak and then the story paused so she could express how difficult it was to live every moment without him, and then she was back to her ordinary self again. This made the writing so off and awkward, but that was not the worst. No, the worst was, as in all books, the constant cringy jokes and dialogues.
The youngest characters in the book was probably Lucy and Abby, being around 18 years old. Yet every character had a maturity level at 10. The constant jokes was just that ridiculous and immature that it made both writing and characterization (the little there was) childish. I don’t mean to insult the author but has she ever heard people speak? Or does she think teens speak and act like bipolars on crack? Because if she does, then this portrait she’s given of Lucy and Abby is extremely insulting to any teen out there. I don’t know why but the author also seems to confuse stupidity with bravery, since the story indicates that the characters are being courageous when they are just being plain dumb. Like at monumental or life threatening moments they stop to chat and joke for a bit before moving into action. Seriously every character were so TSTL that if they lived in real life I have no doubt they be dead ten times over.
I know I am pretty harsh, especially when I got this book for free, but I found this book so bad that I don’t feel like it being free should excuse the content to the story. This is just my opinion of course so take it or leave it, but a saving grace for Crais and the whole series would be to rewrite it into a children’s book instead. Because as it is, it is just way to ridiculous to appeal to an older audience. As it is it lands on one star for me and for my own sake, and probably the author’s sake, I will not continue with this series.
I liked this book overall, but there were parts that I still struggled with. The planet Crais was well described and was intriguing, but Fury came off as flat in the beginning since we only got like one chapter from her POV before switching back to Abby. I didn’t understand what kind of person she was, which made her actions unbelievable. It actually made me roll my eyes and I had to put the book down before picking it back up after that first chapter. Later on throughout the book, you do get to understand who Fury is, but I just wish I could feel it in the introduction. On top of that, there are all the instaloves that are just driving me nuts. Plus I’ve been trying to ignore the typos throughout the series, but this book frustrated me. I had to reread so many sections to try and make sense with what was trying to be said.
Then I had so many questions plot wise. Why let Lucy go with them to these potentially dangerous worlds? Because she would pitch a fit about not going? At least going forward after this book, I can understand why she would be needed, but beforehand it just doesn’t make sense. Then I didn’t understand why they all felt that they needed to go to the dark mountains. I know why Abby wanted to go but not why everyone else felt they needed to. The best I could figure after going back and rereading to try and find the answer is that they thought the seventine were there? If that was the case, then why did they say they didn’t know what to do to stop them if they found them when they were there? Seemed completely pointless except to serve Abby’s motives and advance that part of her storyline. The motives were just confusing to me.
Even though I liked Spurn’s storyline better, I see the writing getting better with each book which makes me see potential for the rest of the series. Okay let’s see what the next one has.
Just some quick thoughts. I really enjoyed the first two books. Crais started off great! I loved reading from Fury’s point of view and wanted more of that. Honestly, I was bummed when we switched back to Abigail’s POV.
That’s another thing. I’m kind of over Abigail and Lucy. They came off as self righteous and immature. Only they were allowed to be rude. I kept thinking, "somebody please shut them up." Especially Lucy. Abigail has become a bit of a Mary Sue and could do no wrong . I was so happy when
So, Fury basically saved this book for me.
Last of all, what happened to Brace’s character?? I don’t recognize him anymore. He acted like a caveman who lost his spark.
I’m still going to keep reading because I want to meet the new characters. Hopefully, the other characters will grow up a bit.
As with the book previously, Crais starts off from the POV of the half walker who Abby is searching for - in this instance it's Fury on the planet Crais. Now, Crais is a very harsh planet and inhospitable to the majority - so I gave Fury a free pass for being such a cranky and rather unlikeable character for basically the whole book. Lucky there were so many other characters to focus on.
POV switches back to Abby after the intro to Crais and Fury. Poor Abby, wondering what's happening to Brace, he's a little possessed and she really misses him. Lucy is starting to show some of her own powers, but she's still upset over Sam being a dirty, dirty betrayer. And where was Sam???? I'm still wondering why he did what he did in the conclusion of the last book, hopefully he pops up in the story again in the next book. BUT we are introduced to Colt towards the end of this book, and he's really hot and seems interested in Lucy - hopefully she forgets all about Sam and moves on with Colt. That would be great. Onto the next book in the series.
CRAIS is another jewel in the crown of the Walker Saga! Although Fury is annoying as anything, she does mellow as the book progresses, and she understands more about Abby. As for Abby, she is heartbroken at the beginning of the book, and for good reason. However, with Lucy sticking to her side, Abby does what she can for everyone.
There are a multitude of new characters this book that kept my attention. We have Colton and Magenta, the Wolf Twins, and Dune - who rides a Dragoona. Dune was definitely needed to soften some of Fury's (very) rough edges, but it came good in the end. It is nice to see Lucy gaining strength (although she was no weakling in the beginning), and I really want to know what happened with Samuel. I'm not sure if I want her to be with him, or Colton, so I'll just keep my options open!
Another great story that continues with the world-building. Excellent characters, and I can't wait to continue with this Saga. Absolutely recommended by me.
Jaymin Eve creates a unique world for each installment of this series, and adds another character from that world (and usually her love interest). Though the whole series is told through the lens of our world, Earth, and the MCs Abigail and Brace. It works for me, because you have the side plot of the developing love interests for each world, but without losing the focus of the MCs you've come to love.
(Confession: I have a real love-hate thing with series that have a different love interest and MC every book, set in the same world. I much prefer to have the series revolve around the same people. So this series was a nice compromise for me.)
I cannot praise this series enough! A fantastic twist on a dystopian novel that gently eases into some hefty fantasy. I read First World on a whim and before I knew it just had to buy the whole series which I read in a little less than 10 days. They simply cannot be put down! I highly recommend for anyone to give them a try, even if its not your favourite genres I promise you there is something for everyone.
Extremely well written and I will certainly be looking out for more of the author's work.
I'm crazy in love with this series. It seems like Abby and her friends can't catch a break to save their life! I love that Brace and Abby finally finished their melding, who wouldn't want to stop reading that lol... I feel for Lucy, I am not on the hate Samuel train yet because I think something happened to him but I do feel for her to have been used and being the only one so different. I liked reading some of her POV in this book and hope she pokes a head in a few more times through out the series.
And it just keeps getting better. Absolutely love Lucy and it was great getting a chapter from her POV. This one moved a lot quicker than the previous books and some of the book was frustrating as the focus stayed too long on certain aspects (Bra-by) and not a lot on others (developing powers - clans - finding halflings). That could just be my penchant for action talking. The battle for Brace was a bit too glossed over and convenient too. Overall, still enjoying the series. The side characters made this book a lot more interesting. Love Colt - brilliant addition.
It was interesting, Crais is a planet of heat and death but the native half walker's name fit her so well. Fury is always angry and she was lucky that Abigail got to her planet in time to collect her for her destiny.
The concept offirst world and the seven planets in the star system is very unique and very detailed. I loved that Josian loves Abby's mom and his people and is personality is unique for a walker.
Brace and Abby's journey seems to just beginning. I pray that Lucy's latest prediction doesn't come to pass rose all would have been for naught.
Another amazing book in this series. Jaymin is keeping the plot intriguing. This book is about a world called Crais and the half-walker born there. The adventure and problems that face Abby/Aribella, Lucy and the other half-walkers are crazy. Emotional pain and suffering is affecting everyone. Cliffhanger ending, luckily the series is finished and I can go straight to book 4. 😆 •••••• I highly recommend this book/series! •••••• ~~ I have Kindle Unlimited, and I used that service to read this book. ~~
I love this Walker Saga Series! Lots of love, laughter and plenty of excitement! The only thing I didn't like is that much of what happened in Spurn is repeated in the beginning of this book. Which takes valuable space from having been able to write a little more new stuff! Smart in the authors part. But, overall, I loved it! Yes, I very much recommend these books. You will not be disappointed!
I found this one a little slow at times. The whole part on Crais seemed like filler. However, I loved meeting new walkers, I love their egotistical attitudes & odd ways. It's quite entertaining. Colt is a great new addition. I'm intrigued as to where Lucas's storyline is going. Really not sure what will happen there. Overall I'm still enjoying this series & looking forward to reading the next book.
