Photos of almost every recipe. Recipes fit the theme of the books (I don’t know the movies), with a lot of Greek dishes, campfire favorites, blue foods for Percy, etc. Grover the satyr gives humorous commentary. Haven’t made any of the recipes yet, so might change rating later depending on how things turn out.
All the recipes fit the theme well, a task made easier by the fact that the cookbook can cast a wide net--there's food referenced in the books, Greek food, and New York City food. My partner and I are very novice cooks, and we definitely don't follow the directions when the directions feel tedious or they have too many steps or we just don't feel like it, and yet somehow this book got us to follow the directions for every recipe we tried, and every recipe came out delicious!
The rizogalo is the easiest and tastiest rice pudding I've ever made, and I really liked the inclusion of honey. I'll absolutely be making it again, probably for Christmas. The sliders and Greek-style French fries were also really good, although the fries required a ton more dishes than I usually am willing to donate to the cause of dinner. I wouldn't necessarily make those fries again, although now that I know how to make French fries from scratch I actually might if I need to use up potatoes. And while I might not make those exact smashburgers again, either, now that I know how to make smashburgers I'll probably make something similar.
The real winner was the grilled chicken gyros recipe. It is SO good, and easy enough that my partner and I have already made the recipe twice, once even with homemade pitas! That recipe is going on heavy rotation from now on.
We'll probably serve it with frozen French fries, though...
Amazing! I am so glad to have gotten my hands on this fantastic cookbook! There are plenty and diverse recipes to try (even a dog-friendly one) and I loved the commentary shared between Grover and Annabeth. I definitely recommend gifting this to someone who loves the Percy Jackson series and cooking! Now I have the infamous Blue Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe as well and I can't wait to try it.
So fun and creative, wish it was out 10 years ago when my boys were little and would have loved to eat like Percy. This is a great way to encourage some adventurous eating.
