The Afro Unicorns know they need to BELIEVE in themselves in order to SUCCEED! But when Unique and Divine enroll at a new school called Afronia Academy and meet an artsy student named Dreama, their confidence will be put to the test—that is, if their teachers don't do it first. This beautifully illustrated graphic novel celebrates Black joy, beauty, and of course, unicorns!
Divine and Unique are attending a new magical school called Afronia Academy. It’s a very hard school to get into, and Superior Magical reminds them that they were chosen to attend because they are kind, fair, smart, and believe in themselves. There, the Afro Unicorns meet a student named Dreama. Dreama seems like she's always distracted, but why? Unique and Divine have got to find out!
This full-color graphic novel is great for young readers beginning their graphic novel journey and graphic novel enthusiasts alike. It also features a Dyslexia-friendly font. Dreama uses a few words in Spanish, with pronunciation guides to help kids navigate new text. Dreama is bilingual, and readers will enjoy learning phrases with her.
This volume follows Unique and Divine on their first day at a new school where at first they feel overwhelmed and like everyone knows more than they do. They make a new friend in Dreams by showing her kindness which then spreads throughout the school. The author shows how believing in one’s self can bring joy and alter the spaces around us. The bright colourful artwork continues to enhance each character in the story.
Graphic Novel I received an electronic ARC from Active Community through Edelweiss+. Unique and Divine are back for more adventures. They have been accepted to Afronia Academy and readers join them on their first day. They feel overwhelmed when they see what everyone else knows but find courage and belief in themselves. When they find another unicorn who feels the same, they boost her belief in herself and in doing so, boost their own. By showing kindness to Dreama and others, they see kindness spread through the school. An encouraging story for young readers. Showers shows how finding belief in yourself and supporting others can bring joy and change an environment. The artwork is brightly colored and brings out the brilliance of each unicorn.
This volume 2 is simple but fun. They are accepted to an amazing academy where everyone is the best (this causes them to feel anxious and doubt themselves) but they soon learn that they are the best because they believe in themselves and are kind. Also, Dreama is an artist and my fav. Making new friendships. Short read.
