Dre's father had planned an unforgettable hunting trip for him as a graduation present. Little did they know how unforgettable it would become and what life-threatening dangers they would face. A terrifying near plane crash, a pack of menacing wolves, and a thunderous avalanche were just the beginning of their worst nightmare. Danger surrounds them as they travel deep into the mountains with Mad Mike, their off-the-hook pilot and guide. This part of Alaska is known for its incredible beauty and untamed wilderness. There's adventure around every corner for someone like Dre who's lived his entire life on Kodiak Island off Alaska's southern coast.
HE WENT THROUGH ALL OF THAT AND DIDN'T EVEN SHOOT THE BEAR??????? HIS DAD DID? WHAT'S THE POINT. HOW DID HE SURVIVE AN AVALANCH, LIKE I SPENT 95 PAGES READING ABOUT HUNTING A BEAR AND THE BEAR DIDN'T EVEN SHOW UP UNTIL PAGE LIKE 96 AND WE JUST THROW IN AN CATASTROPHIC AVALANCH THAT ONLY LASTS 5 PAGES?
disappointing at best, hunting propaganda at worst

Terror at Deadwood Lake by Lane Walker is the third book in the Hometown Hunters series. It is about a boy who lives in Alaska and has been waiting to go on a big hunting trip for many years. When he graduated he was able to go on the trip and something really bad happened to him and his dad. They were stuck in Deadwood Lake. When he got there something terrible happened. Did he live or not? This book is for kids around 8-14 years old. I recommend this book to people that like the outdoors and/or hunting. It will leave you wanting to know more about its dramatic scenes. It will amaze you how you can visualize almost everything they are talking about. I also think this book is not as good as all the other books he has written because it doesn't have a good plot and I think that it's not as intriguing as the others. But still will hook you and make you want to keep reading. The theme is that when things get hard you just have to keep pushing through the hard things. This theme fits the book well because it is all about the thought processes that they are going through and how he and his dad are having to improvise.
"Terror at Deadwood Lake" is a mildly scary and exciting short book that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. The writer does a great job of telling a story full of suspense and mystery, with characters that you really care about. The way they describe everything makes you feel like you're right there with them. The surprises and twists in the plot keep you guessing, and it's a really thrilling read.
If you're into suspenseful stories, you should definitely check out "Terror at Deadwood Lake". It's a book that will make your heart race and leave you wanting to read more by this author (Lane Walker). The author knows how to create a creepy atmosphere and keep you on the edge of your seat. The only thing I took points off of was the spelling errors, there were a few spelling errors almost every other chapter. Other than that, it's a really good, short read and I encourage you to read it if you get the chance.
This book series was a suggestion by my father-in-law for the kids. I thought I would join in reading them too since he loaned us the entire series. I'm not a hunter, so these books aren't really appealing to me, even though they are interesting. This is a coming of age book for young men, probably why it didn't really strike a chord with me too. I didn't feel this book was as well laid out as the first in the series, which I felt had more meaningful character lessons. It's a good, quick read and I would recommend it, especially to boys who are struggling to read. The story moves quickly and includes lots of action, which is what boys enjoy the most! :)
Grabbed this up one evening, because I was craving wilderness and adventure. It was a brief read, but pleasant. "There is always hope"-is the running theme, which I really liked about this family. Cleatus was a surprise-did not see any of that coming...
This is a great book about bear hunting and has a very god story line to it so it makes it really fun to read and you dont want to put it down i would highly recommend to hunters.
