4.5 rounded up, just because.
It’s no surprise that Blue Box is a damn good romance, but it was cool to have the reminder this volume that it’s a pretty great sports title as well. In fact, the two manage to come together quite nicely.
Taiki and Chinatsu are dating and while precious little has changed for them, everything has changed for them. They have some small moments (and one interrupted one), but nothing too exciting, except that you can tell it’s all very exciting for them. Acting how they always were is coloured very differently when you know the other person feels the same.
Taiki’s birthday turns out to be a mini-date due to the usual narrative silliness (manga loves its ‘whoops were on our own’ tropes), but the way they interact is very sweet and you can see the way they’re getting more and more comfortable with one another. It’s a lovely slow burn that makes sense for their personalities.
Elsewhere, poor Hina is totally over things until she finds out that Taiki finally confessed and then it all comes roaring back to the surface. I still think Hina is one of the best characters in any manga I’ve read, truly, and her dealing with heartbreak continues to pay off.
Oh, and Kyo and Ayame keep on doing whatever. Ayame thinks the big tournament will be the chance to see her current target, Taiki’s rival, but a quirk of fate leads things astray AND causes her to cram her foot in her mouth to Kyo. Ayame’s brutally honest nature is deliciously satisfying and I’m here to see this pairing come off.
And the badminton tournament is a belter, filled with all the trash talk and rivals and dramatic shots and heartfelt beliefs that it can muster. It quickly drums up a replacement rival that Taiki doesn’t hate but is determined to prove wrong and that sets the stage for the conclusion.
I love this series and everything it does, basically. It gets everything right and gives me every thing I wanted from it this volume. I am a huge fan of consistent series and this one delivers so often that it’s comforting.

vemos como manejan esta nueva relación y deciden mejor mantenerla privada (más que todo porque viven juntos, que dirían todos). Son bastante inexpertos y solo se dedican a decirse cosas lindas, darse la mano para ellos agarrarse la mano, hablar por teléfono y comer solos en la escuela.
Vemos como chi no expresa sus sentmientos, lo interpreto como que no los entiende o algo. A la medida de los capítulos expresa un poquito más, en ves de solo congelarse hace un mini puchero. Pero claro, esto puede llevar a cosas más adelante.
La amiga de la infancia de chi, retoma el basket en otro tomo anterior y oyen que su escuela ha avanzado a un puesto que no lo hacía, gracias a la amiga.
Tenemos un vistazo de chono y sus sentimientos aun latentes por taiki. Ya no hay incomodidad entre ellos, hay ligereza. Pero no entiendo porque al momento que eso pasa, la chica decide recordarle a taiki que debe apresurarse con chi, si no las cosas pueden ir como él no quiere. ¿Porqué te dañas así chono? Si querías volver al trato original que tenías con taiki, ¿por que mencionar el tema que los separó (en términos de amistad y hablar normal) en un primer lugar? Bien sabes que la mayoría de posibles respuestas o te dañarían, les incomodaría a ambos o algo más. ¿Por qué no retoma la amistad sin eso por un tiempo? Por que claro, son amigos; en algún momento tendrán que hablar de eso. Pero puede ser en otro momento, no cuando las cosas acaban de volver a la normalidad.
Y la respuesta la daña, por que claramente le sigue gustando el chico.
Esto lo oculta de los demás. Aún así el bff de taiki se da cuenta (él que interpreta y ve cosas así como el lector) que ella esta mal. Pero no hay momento de hablar por que la manager llega.
Chono quiere que ella le presente a otros chicos. El bff le dice que si ya pasó pagina con taiki como para empezar otra relación. Él, ella (chono) y nosotros los lectores sabemos que miente cuando dice que sí.
La manager le pide al bff que hable con chono. Él le cuenta de como gustó de alguien, pero eso no lo es todo por que debes considerar a los demás. (La chica que a él le gustaba, quería a otro; entonces él decidió ser feliz por la felicidad de ella, ya que su dolor era menos importante que la parejita). También dijo algo que no le entendí: "Para mí una relación llena de amor es muy solitaria" (O quiza no era así y parafraseé una mala traducción).
Taiki va a la competición de 1er año. Yusa no competirá, taiki quería competir con él. Pero resulta que fue a otro país para un entreno o competencia, a ojos del prota yusa esta a un nivel que él no puede alcanzar.
El sempai novio de karen le dice a otro compañero que taiki es como la toruga de la liebre y la tortuga. Que al esperar perder, no se deprime tanto; pero no se percata de lo bueno que es por buscar o enfocarse en solo mejorar.
Habla con un amigo que su objetivo es llegar a las nacionales. Un random pendejo que nunca ha salido se mete y le dice que esta pendejo.
Bueno no, exagero. Le dice que es raro que alguien hable tan abiertamente de sus objetivos. Y desmerita la victoria con yusa por que este había ya jugado varios partidos. Que solo juega porque es divertido y que no tiene nobles o superiores objetivos como ir a las nacionales.
Después taiki es quien lo escucha hablándole a su amigo "Al final, el futuro solo se compone de tu talento y lo que te esforzaste. Me parece grosero hacia quienes realmente tienen talento que un do nadie hable de sus sueños. Se llama saber su lugar."
Primero COMO PUTAS un maje que nunca te ha visto sabrá si eres talentoso o no y por eso te tratara o no distinto para que tu estes bien.
Segundo tu te metiste PENDEJO. Nadie te llamó ni te pidió tu opinión. Si bien juegas y practicas el mismo deporte de él, no has estado cada segundo de la vida de taiki; como para saber si es un "do nadie" como dices.
Tercero tu solo consideras su derrota contra yusa y su vistoria contra él. Pero dices que "no cuenta" porque fue un amistoso después que yusa halla jugado otros partidos.
QUE ME IMPORTA MAJEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
(Sinceramente si Taiki perdía, para mi es un idolo igual porque él nuca se rinde).

¡Y aún así tiene el descaro que taiki no ha tenído buenos resultados y que es un do nadie!

Osea como le parece extraño si casi no tiene de donde decir que taiki es malo, si solo sabe de 2 de sus partidos. ¡Y partidos de hace tiempo!
Resulta que aquel pendejo es in inseguro (obvio) y se siente inferior a yusa. Y que él no gane en un torneo que para yusa "no es nada" su posición "cambiará".
Me encanta el comentario de taiki "si no se hubiera rendido sobre sí mismo, podría ir más lejos".
(Tambien un momento de yusa saber que el pendejo perdió contra taiki, "yo no hubiera perdido". Nombre me reí, un poco ridículo.)
Luego llegamos a los novios felices por que taiki ganó el torneo. Que la fuerza de chi le ayudó. Y que la fuerza de él la ayudará.

Because I saw that Ao no Hako was going to be made into an anime I decided to catch up on the manga. I've realized that reading is my prefered way to take in a story so I've been looking at all the anime I'm excited for and diving into the manga. So anyways, I caught up with Ao no Hako's manga over the last few days (I read all 100+ in less than a week).
I gotta say I was actually pretty satisfied with the story. I was very on the edge about the fact that they'd be living together, imo manga's i'd read in the past had relied too heavily on that to force the characters together in ways that I really was like "ugh well I guess" but Ao no Hako didn't have those moments. It was simply that they were able to grow closer because of the fact that their were closer but 99% of all the scenes were of them interacting in ways outside of the house. Namely at school in the gym, since it also has a sports subplot that is very closely linked to their romance. However, you can't discount the fact that they DO live together because it's a pretty large driving force for tension in the story from start to where the manga currently is in release. "I live with the girl I like" is often brought up between characters in conversations in passing to let people know how those developments are going and eventually it's brought up that the FL (female lead) isn't the type to develop feelings for someone without being close to them.
Overall, it was a sports riddled high school romance. Not bad. Definitely looking forward to the anime and continuing on with the manga.

Okay, now that I am all caught up on the manga releases in Japanese because of the Shonen Jump app, I want to make some comments.
When I first read Blue Box I had high hopes, it was an anticipated read and then after reading the first volume I wasn't that in to it. Now saying that, I just binged it during my winter break. I still don't know how I feel about the series. I liked it enough to binge it, but I'm not sure if I loved it. Usually after two or three volumes of a series I decide if I'll buy it and add it to my connection. With Blue Box though I'm still confused. I think the covers are really pretty and want to own the cool covers, but the actual story is just okay to me. The best story and character arc was Yumeka and that really made the series so much better in my opinion. Then the whole confession chapter really killed me. With all that though the treatment of Hina I felt was not needed, and for me didn't push the romance further or help any character development. Why can't we just have platonic friends?
All in all the series is like a 7.5/10 so far, it has it has moments, but it struggles to really nail it like Taiki struggling to become better at badminton.

Another excellent volume! It's nice to see Taiki and Chinatsu starting to get used to their new dynamic and figure out how to navigate their new relationship. There is also some great progress with Taiki's badminton during this volume though I wish we had seen the final match. This story continues to be a delight.

I like the character development of each character in this manga. Taiki × Chinatsu relationship looks cute now. Apart from that, the sports side with the matches that Taiki played in had the right portion that made me not realize I had just finished reading it.

Go Taiki! I’m disappointed that Yusa wasn’t there but I’m glad Taiki won his tournament. And Chinatsu and Taiki are so cute together. The hand on the wall scene was adorable. On to the next volume!
