Defiant and vulgar, Princess Kaguya Takenouchi is not the heir to the moon’s Silver Court that her mother’s retainers had hoped for. But when the empress falls ill during a wave of terrorist attacks, Kaguya resolves to do right by her people and rise to the occasion.
Having learned the truth of the Matsu branch’s banishment, Kaguya engages the Matsu emperor in a decisive battle. She then heads back to her home, the moon. There, Izumiya is plotting to commit an act of mass murder at a memorial concert. Can Kaguya stop her in time? Kaguya’s odyssey reaches its gripping conclusion in this final volume!
The final antagonist's backstory is revealed, her twisted mindset exposed to the audience, and the only ones who can stop her is a bratty princess who kinda has Force powers. Series as a whole was fine, but gets a little lost in its way to the finale. After reading "Tista" and this, I'm just glad that Endo realized that he has a better knack at comedy than actual serious storytelling.
Cool concept but for me an overall uneven series. The rowdy main character isn't charming, and there are a lot of side characters and ideas that get introduced and then lost in the shuffle. The final volume gives the backstory of the rival princess, a rushed and crazy climax, and a sweet epilogue.
This is the final volume of a five-book series from Tatsuya Endo, the author behind the fantastic Spy x Family series. This is sort of an updated version of the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, a Japanese folklore story about Princess Kaguya, a princess on the moon who is sent down to the Earth.
Here we have the final battle as Princess Kaguya returns to the moon with her new allies to reclaim her birthright and stop Izumiya from killing innocent people. A lot of action, a little more backstory, and a comfortable epilogue. A fitting ending.
Beautiful artwork and in the end the commitment was worth the payoff. A great ending and a beautiful story about family, inter generational trauma and growing up.
