The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess manga series is comprised of 11 volumes. It is a thrilling and action-packed graphic novel adaptation of the beloved video game of the same name. Written and illustrated by Akira Himekawa, the manga follows the heroic Link as he battles against the evil forces of the Twilight Realm to save Hyrule from destruction. Each book is filled with stunning artwork, dynamic fight scenes, and an engaging storyline that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. From the opening pages of the first volume, readers are drawn into a world of magic, mystery, and adventure that only the Zelda franchise can provide.
Akira Himekawa is the collaboration of two women, A. Honda and S. Nagano. Together they have created nine manga adventures featuring Link and the popular video game world of The Legend of Zelda, including Ocarina of Time, Oracle of Seasons and Four Swords. Their most recent work, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, was serialized in Shogaku Rokunensei.
So nostalgic to read this manga version of the first real video game I ever played. And replayed. And replayed. The characters are all drawn so beautifully and it’s nice to see Link speak for once lol.
I absolutely adored this series. I grew up playing Twilight Princess, so it's engrained in my DNA. I love all the things they added to enhance the story and weave little details in that make what little the game gave us into an even more amazing masterpiece. There are a lot of differences from the game to keep fans on their toes, while staying true to the story we love!
Seriously, I read these all the time, I love them. We also got lots of Hero's Shade (my favorite thing in the universe) and even a wicked cool Dark Link arc. It's just such a good manga series. If you've played the game, go read these.
THIS WAS A MAJESTIC EPIC! I'm so glad I finally got to read the manga and feeling nostalgia from when I used to play the game on Wii as a kid.
I can't possibly narrow all these volumes down articulately so I'm just gonna dot points things I remember loving or generally noted: - Darker than the short manga stories from the Legendary Box. - GORGEOUS art! - Zelda x Midna connection was beautiful & amongst the best parts was when their link was revealed and elaborated on later. - Zelda is the most badass she's ever been - from wielding a sword, to having a sharp tongue, to standing up to Ganondorf with no fear, etc. Many shining moments from her & this is incidentally how I most remember her looks being since I played this game first as a kid. Brunette & mature Zelda is the best Zelda. - Epona is the GOAT! - The "Killing you once isn't enough for me" throwback was fire! - Midna & Link's development together was so well done. Their antagonistic meeting, their banter, their change of relationship & battles. I could rave about them for this whole review alone with the amount of depth. - THE Ganondorf battle was satisfying! It relieves me to know the manga authors (Akira H is actually two women) can write long fight sequences (despite it not being obvious from their, now evident, choices to use short form manga storytelling used in the other LOZ manga they'd written (& I previously read). While battles in those short manga are over & done with in a couple of pages, it's clear they were just restricted with the format because here, in Twilight Princess, they take their time to flesh out the battle across multiple chapters. - Loved Link's old mates, Zeu & Rioma. I'm not a huge fan of Darpa, but he serves his role. Zeu and Rioma are true friends though who support Link in different ways. True heroes in their own right! - As always, the women are drop dead STUNNING (without objectification). - While I initially hated King Bulbin's I liked how it ended. - Although the protagonist Link for this story, Hero of Twilight Link, is up there too. The way he conveyed his emotions, the way he progressed, the way he had a non-annoying reluctant hero journey initially and the way he had me wrenching my heart at times... GREAT Link! - While I prefer Zelda & Link as romantic partners and actively seek their hinted moments when starting a new LOZ manga, this story was masterful in making me feel Well played, manga authors. Well played. - Finally, I had teary eyes somewhere in the last 10-15 chapters, but for the life of me I can't remember what moment it was that did it.
A 'dark beauty', magical series with darkness and light, seriousness and humour, consequences and justice, friendships and romantic relationships, all amazingly juggled & packed in with a neat bow tie. Yet, it still leaves you room to imagine what happens to characters after their journey together ends. Finished but still lingering in my heart with hopes & wishes. Perfect.
Big rant lots of thoughts as a Zelda nerd currently going through a Twilight Princess high because a youtube gamer I like is doing a playthrough.:::
Okay okay fine. It was good. Really good. I still don’t like Link’s personality or new backstory, though the backstory with the disappearing city DID lend itself to developing the Twilight Realm in the ways the game did not that left me with so many questions on how the Twilight Realm operates. BUT despite that, I always loved how the Himekawa duo develops relationships and gives side characters more to do which ultimately gives scale and stakes to the story. When I let go of my attachment to the game’s version of the story, this interpretation was great. Epic and emotional and exciting. And Link and Midna!!! Best Zelda duo, best ship, amazing outstanding spectacular 10/10. I remember when the final volume released and that kiss was posted everywhere and despite not keeping up with the manga at the time me and all my zelda-loving friends were popping bottles.
4.5 stars cause of my personal preferences and because the story sometimes felt choppy. But even choices/changes to the story and characters I didn’t like at first ended up having good pay off to make it worth it.
Except Link’s personality. More on that. Yes I understand needing to give the main character flaws and that a silent protagonist is hard to develop, BUT DAMN I WANTED LINK TO SHUT UP! I don’t think pride/ego fits ANY iteration of Link as a flaw, but TP Link especially always struck me as extremely quiet and humble. Link in general doesn’t need to give a million speeches to showcase his personality, his goals and motivations. I wish the mangaka would just learn to let Link’s expressions and actions speak for themself, and occasionally voice his inner thoughts. This is a problem I have with most of their mangas. Link is too chatty, has too big of an ego, and I want him to shut his mouth lol. And since TP link is the most quiet, even tempered, and down-to-earth link in my mind, it’s especially jarring. And it also makes his dynamic and friendship with Midna different, which changes my OTP fundamentally. Oh well.
TP LINK IS THE MOST YEEHAW LINK OF ALL AND NOT A SINGLE YEEHAW FROM HIM ARE YOU KIDDING ME
I'll preface this by admitting that I haven't played Twilight Princess, and most of my knowledge of the Legend of Zelda games comes from playing Breath of the Wild. Regardless, playing that game made me more curious about the lore behind the LoZ universe. And since I don't own a console that can play Twilight Princess, I decided the next best thing was to read the manga adaptation. And I found it to be a thrilling story that adds depth to the usually-mute hero of the game and his world.
Having not played the original game, I can't say how closely this sticks to the story of the game or how far it deviates. But it certainly gives us far more depth than a lot of Nintendo's video games do, and I feel that the authors did an excellent job of adapting the story without making it feel like it's ripped straight from a video game. It gives us fantastic characterization, especially of Link, who is often just a blank slate for the player to move around, and through Link we not only explore the land and past of Hyrule but what it means to be a hero... and his own inner demons.
I often find the art style of manga to be chaotic, especially action sequences. But the art in this series is well-done, without a lot of the exaggerated expressions I often see in manga and anime and with action scenes that are decently easy to follow. The designs of the characters are downright beautiful, and their faces are expressive without being twisted into grotesque caricatures.
This manga was recommended as the best Legend of Zelda manga to date... and I'm glad I was able to start my exploration of Hyrule on a high note.
I am a huge fan of the The Legend of Zelda games, so when i heard of the mangas, especially Twilight Princess, i knew i had to get them and read them. TP is one of my favorite Zelda games and reading this definitely added to my love of the story as well. This series added so much character to Link which i loved, i loved being able to watch him fail as a character (not as me playing him super badly in the games lol) I loved being able to watch him learn and grow! And getting to learn more about his back story and just everything. Honestly even if this series isn’t canon, it is to me, this series just added so much depth and feeling and i absolutely love it. Also the way this series is drawn, god the art is so fantastic it makes me tear up!!!! I will never forget this story, that ending, I WANT TO FRAME THESE PAGES ON MY WALL!!
If you are a Zelda fan READ THIS SERIES you will not regret it at all 1million stars, this series is fantastic!
extra: also my cats name is Midna and when i tried to show her who she was named after she was not listening to me, classic Midna🤪LMAO
This is the best manga series I have read to date. I love the artwork, but even more I love the creative liberties that were taken to add more depth to the characters that we know and/or love from the game. This manga does stay pretty true to the storyline as shown in the game, but the elements that were added just made me fall in love with the story even more. This manga from start to finish illustrates a true coming of age story that allows Link to really grow into his role as the Hero of Hyrule in a meaningful way. It is also a story that explores the power of friendship unironically. I love the direction that the manga takes with the message of friendship, especially towards the later volumes. Without spoiling it, I love the additions to Link’s backstory. Along with the friendship thing, the comradery that develops between Link and Midna throughout the series has got to be my favorite part about the story. This was very well done in my opinion.
3.5 stars. After finishing this series, I felt weirdly empty. It isn’t often that I become so attached to a series or book that I feel that way.
I enjoyed this series, I liked the art, and I liked the ways that this series fleshed out the characters and lore from the game. Honestly I enjoyed this series more than the game from which it was adapted, though that probably says more about me than the game. The pacing was good, the action and character development was satisfying, and the characters had enough depth to be appreciated. As a whole, characters acted more logically and organically, and murky details were expounded upon. Some details were not (like the sword in Rufurio’s city (and the city’s real name)), and though the characters had substance, they still felt lacking (to me).
The “dark Link” arc was, in my opinion, abrupt and ill-fitting, but I still really enjoyed it and thought that it added dimension to Link and the story.
I loved this so much! I appreciated the added back story in so many spots, whether that back story is actually canon according to the game developers or just creative liberties from the authors. Regardless, it made for an incredibly interesting story and filled in a lot of holes and questions with the game itself. It was such a fun read, and I feel like they did a great job of giving the characters personality, especially Link! In the games he's usually very passive, isn't very interactive, and normally is one track-minded on beating Zant and then Ganondorf. But this manga series allowed Link to show that he is a flawed, growing, learning human just like all of us, and I feel like that made the story even better.
The series even though not canon is great read that explores the depth of hatred, despair, hope, loyalty, and friendship. The series starts out with a troubled character with a destiny stumbling about looking for true meaning as to what a real hero is while showing how the lives of innocent people can be uprooted and thrown into chaos. This series paves the way of not only the chose hero of Hyrule, but all those caught up the destiny of those who possess the triforce. Definitely a recommended read.
I*GASPED* AT WHAT MIDNA DID AT THE END. IS THIS HOW PEOPLE ON TUMBLR FEEL!?!?!

Giving one of the most famous mute characters a speaking voice is no small task and is bound to make some characterization clunky, but this manga with a touch of nostalgia glasses is a heart-full and beautifully illustrated retelling of one of the best Zelda storylines. Well worth ripping through now that all volumes are published and easily accessible.
The only Zelda video games that I’ve played were Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I’ve never played Twilight Princess, but non the less, I truly enjoyed this manga series. The character development, the relationships (platonic and romantic), THE PLOT TWISTS!!! It’s a very well developed story, and I will continue to re-read this for a very long time.
4.5/5 overall. A phenomenal manga. Some amazing editions to the Twilight Princess story we never got to see in the game. Original manga was a 7 year process - fortunate to get to read the entire translated version from the get go. Starts off a bit slow, but the middle and latter thirds of the story are fantastic.
This is a fun series! I like some of the added stuff, like a backstory and character arc for Link, and more ties between the characters. It's a bit choppy in places, so I had to fill in from memories of the game, but honestly it's pretty solid. Glad to finally have read this!
