Walker Easton has chosen a life of solitude and it’s always suited him well. When a young lover is viciously taken from him, he begins to reevaluate his connection with Emilio. Could he have saved the young man, had he resisted the deep seated desire to belong to someone? Lost and uncertain for the first time in his life, his bravado is slipping away. When he’s given his next filthy assignment, he remembers Emilio’s final words to him… “Who will grieve for you when you are gone, Walker?” His next choices set him on a dangerous path where there is no turning back and when an old friend gets in the way, he has an impossible decision to make.
Callum Tryst is a dangerous man in his own right. Young and cocky and undeniably one of the finest assassins alive, he goes after a target not knowing that there is one painted on his own back. When he crosses paths with a career sniper, he finally meets his match… or does he? Callum learns the hard way that perhaps the best weapon against his enemy is another enemy. He finds himself asking the question, “If I’ve never ever cared about anyone, did I ever really matter?”
Join the pair as they meet out justice as only they know how, in a desperate fight to the finish… and the discovery that the fight is not as they always assumed it to be. Assumptions get you killed… and dead men cannot love.

Clearly I am in the minority and I'm gonna say it's me and not the book.
'Cause TO ME this story was entirely too busy. There were too many characters to keep track of and it seems like a new couple or triad was introduced in every chapter. I'm thinking they must be people from other series and maybe if I get around to reading (or listening to) those maybe I will revisit this one. Or maybe not. I wasn't all that enthused with the ho-hum BDSM sex scenes and the plot was kind of bog-standard - plus I never really cared much for any of the main characters. And I'm assuming one set of guys was meant to be the MCs but with all the others having such major parts I can't even tell, honestly. I had to re-read the summary to figure out who the MCs were supposed to be and okay they probably had a little more than 50% "screen time" but it really was hard to tease that out.
That said, I'm a glutton for punishment because I probably will put the sequel on the back-burner shelf for when/if I need an assassin-themed book for a future challenge. So, it wasn't THAT bad...it was just sort of "meh." If I were still rounding up I would have because Rusty Topsfield did a good job with the material he was given and I'm not sure I wouldn't have DNFd this about 30% in if it weren't for his narration.
I honestly don't know where to start...I'm sure I'll forget something but here we go.
First of all, POVs. Everyone and their mother had POV in this book. It goes without saying that the constant head-popping was really getting on my nerves...and what's worst, multiple POVs didn't really contribute much to the book, except the sex. There was a lot of it.
As for main characters...they were meh. Nothing special about either of them, though I liked Callum more. At least there was some logic to his behaviour, which can not be said for Walker. Walker is intent on getting his revenge against Stephano for killing Emilio (Stephano's brother and Walker's lover) because Emilio was gay...Walker believes it was honor killing ordered by Emilio's father. But he isn't set on killing the father, but Stephano. Which would be no big deal, if Stephano isn't gay himself and works in BDSM club in USA and has no ties with his family. So, it seems logical to kill him, right? o.O How Walker came to the conclusion that Stephano is one to blame author never shared with us, but it takes only one conversation between them to erase 3 years of hate on Walker's part and for everything to be just peachy between them o.O .
My probably biggest problem in this book was more than obvious objectification of men...for example, word "handsome" was used approximately every 7 pages, which is a lot, believe me. Because tear couldn't just fall down his face, it had to fall down his handsome face; he couldn't just take him by his arm, he had to take him by his muscled arm. No matter whose POV was it, author just had to drill it in our head that all of these men were handsome, packed with muscles, and just gorgeous all around. And drill it, and drill it, and drill it...
As for romantic aspect of this story...I'm not sure if there is one. They meet, they fuck, and fuck again and suddenly we're talking love...and that would be pretty much it.
Honestly, there's not one thing I like about this story. Not one.
To say you would have to suspend disbelief to get through this story is an understatement. I had high hopes for this assassin/revenge trope, and it started out good but ultimately really fell flat with me. It has light D/s, but not overly so and the multiple relationships kind of confused me, but I was still engaged in the first half. The first half of the story was about Walker seeking revenge for his murdered lover. Aside from an overuse of adjectives in describing the men in this story, it wasn't too bad. There are no normal looking men in this book, they are all pretty, beautiful, magnificent, etc. It was a little too much. But then it went downhill fast when the instalove happens. Then my eyes rolls increased a little, but I was still down with giving it a solid 3 stars. The final nail was the "not really epilogue." It was just ridiculous and I couldn't even in good conscience give the story a 3 star rating. The story just made no sense after that.
The narrator did a great job and he got an extra star for trying to sing at one point, which really made me smile. Maybe the 2nd story is better, but right now, I have no desire to find out.
Just when you think you have an author sussed out and are pretty sure of what you are going to get they shake things up and throw something completely different into the mix. I have long been a fan of Patricia Logans boys, clubs and proclivities, this book gives you that but so much more.
Damn if this woman didn’t have me tearful within the first few pages. Emilio, sweet sweet Emilo so viciously killed in the street in front of his lover and total badass Walker. Walker Easton, hard man and assassin has just realised he is in love for the first time in his life only to have it snatched away from him.
With the back story we meet a few of the players. The future and Walkers determination for revenge bring us characters from stories past. They way they merge is perfect and there is still an element of sheer naughtiness to the story. I hadn’t expected this and it works perfectly.
Meet Callum Tryst another assassin who has seen and had too much darkness in his short life. His reason for the job maybe different but the results and memories are still the same. Two broken men, one target and a yearning for a different lifestyle will throw these men together. Both hurt and haunted but both desperate for change they will have to figure out which path to take.
This is edgy, dark and tense. Very different from the usual but a perfect start to what will hopefully be a long series and I for one am looking forward to it!
Puf, puf e ancora puf! (*scrive sventolandosi*).
I give this book 3.5 stars...I liked the characters well enough...even tho I didn't feel love between the MC's at all..a lot of lust but no love at all..I think for me I wanted more action like in the authors Slip and Slide series...what I got was a lot of BDSM scenes...it was good tho to see all the characters from my favorite BDSM books but I was not looking for that in this book...I also didn't care for the ending as well...it was very unrealistic...a father that was so hateful to kill his youngest son then try for the oldest doesn't want to make amends because he had a heart attack and is dying ...and the brothers who felt the same way would not be like I was wrong and all forgiven....but as always Ms Logan's writing was on point...for me the story could have been a lot better with more action, less BDSM, and better ending...
If you asked me I would probably tell you I know Patricia Logan, I would definitely tell you I know her writing, and then she surprises you. Because she is capable of writing such beautifully sweet love stories and such amazingly hot BDSM scenes you forget the ability she has to perch you on the edge if your seat biting your nails to see what will happen next. I have no nails left ..... this is a great start to a new series, can't wait for more but at least we have the Doms of Invitation Only to keep us amused in the meantime :-D
I am a huge fan of Patricia's work and this book was such an intense read. I have read a number of her books, but this was the first one that actually made me have tears in my eyes while reading some parts of it. Such a wonderful and beautiful story of heartache, love lost and found again. I could not put this book down. I was hooked from the first paragraph. Anyone that doesn't give this book a good review is obviously not a fan or just out there to annoy people. Keep up the amazing writing Patricia. You are my Goddess!
This is a little gem that had it not been chosen for me in a challenge I probably would never have discovered it. Not an author I was familiar with. This is the story of Walker, an assassin who is out to avenge the death if his young lover. When he finds his intended victim he learns that there is also another assassin after his quarry. Its an interesting story of 2 hitmen who fall in love with one another but also 2 hitmen with consciences.
This book is filled with so many different perspectives that I could not follow the story. I didn't even know who the main characters were in all of the changing scenarios. I don't understand how an author can make such a mistake.
I thought this was going to be 3 to 3.5 stars through the first 40% of the book. But several things dropped it to 2 stars. Although a minor character, Pepper was not believable at all as a FBI agent. Then there were so many descriptions that were off like door knobs on a hospital room, an Austin hotel having suites with a dedicated butler, breaking a side car window with a fist, swirling champagne, and making high quality fake IDs in a hotel room with no equipment, etc. There was too much detail on trivial things like food that added nothing to the story. Then more filler was added by having Zack repeat the whole story to Cassidy in full detail. It was unnecessary and just served as a way to add to the page count.
Soooo... This happened. Third series by Patricia Logan and second disappointment. Can't believe that same person wrote Death & Destruction. MC met for a first time at 50-60% and after 15 sentences had sex. Second meeting ended the same. Third... Same but now they are in love. The mark actually forgive his father for ordering a hit on him and for killing his younger brother. Basically pornbook, no plot, 100000 characters/POVs (have to check for the MC because it was to confusing).
Carino.
I did enjoy reading about Callum and Walker but it was not the most believable story. I understand why Walker wanted revenge for Emilio's death but I did not believe the reconciliation between Stefano and his father and his other brothers at the end and the assassination attempt at the club was sloppy and not very exciting. Not her best effort but I will read the second book anyway.
Contrary to the negative reviews, I really liked this book. It's assassin vs. assassin, rivals to lovers, MM and somewhat BDSM club but not entirely. I loved the connection between the characters.
I think this CANNOT be your first book by this author. You'd have to know her writing style. I suggest beginning with The Death and Destruction Series.
DNF Not For Me, The story has so many coincidences up to what I'd read. The way its written at the start didn't get me glued, the first chapter The Kill what that all about? Both shooters and both disfigured with scars from their pasts. The story goes weird when Callum is ordered to take out someone who likes kinks.. nope nope. I will say I love the authors current books better.
Quello che mi è rimasto dopo aver letto ‘Professione Killer’? Il ‘very dirty talking’!! E tutte quelle espressioni grevi erano perfettamente compatibili con i vari macho men in lista.
This is a interesting departure from the kind of books written by Patricia Logan that I have been aware of so far. The short description for me is "a character study of two assassins". The differences and similarities between Walker and Callum were fascinating, the plot kept me on the edge of my seat, and the first few pages made me cry. what an emotionally charged opening chapter.
If you like your stories a little gritty, if you have a weakness for assassins and what makes them who they are, and if you're looking for a read that is as emotionally intense as it is hot, then you will probably like this novel.
Walker is an ex-SEAL, who has turned assassin. When he finally finds love, the lost of that love sets him on a path to avenge that love. As he makes his way, he meets another assassin and the ex-SEAL that saved his life in combat.
I'm not sure how to review this. I liked it, but I didn't like it. It felt rushed to me, not enough background for me to care about the characters. Not enough about any of the content to make me like or care. B.U.T., if you are looking for lots of sex, this is for you. Unfortunately, this never completely won me over, but I'm still glad I read it.
