Have you ever wanted to get away from reality and thought that a tropical island and relaxation in the sun, sand and surf was the way to go ? I have always thought that it would be quite beautiful. Just like the saying When in Vegas , Colleen Nye has started a new saying and phrase "When in Maui" with her new book. In When In Maui , we meet Alice Tyler who lives a very stressful life and when her friend Vivienne recommends a nice island escape , she jumps at the chance but on the island Alice meets Ryan - a hot hunk and soon finds herself falling for him fast and hard but of course can she bring herself to the idea that this could possibly only be a fling or will she start developing stronger feelings for Ryan. The big question though is can she let go of her past and the emotional baggage that she is holding onto in order to move on as one event that has happened in Alice's life is that she is now joined the Divorce Club and it has rocked her confidence. Can Ryan prove to her that he isn't a jerk and that he will stick around and love her ? Can Ryan prove that their romance isn't one of those usual When In Maui type cases ? Find out in this lovely romance about getting a second chance at love and this book is the perfect read for Women aged 35+ and is more Women's Fiction type rather than light-hearted and fluffy Chick Lit Romance.
I know that as the author, I can tell you how awesome this story is and how amazing the characters are, but I wrote it... so I'll refrain. What i will tell you is this... In 2012, When in Maui was published by a small publishing house that, unfortunately, didn't care about their books as much as the readers did, let alone the authors.
However, in 2013, Tate Publishing asked to pick it us, and on Feb 18, 2014, When in Maui was rereleased with new formatting, new edits and a new cover. If you've heard about formatting or editing issues from the original copy, please understand that the original publisher (who is no longer in business) made some mistakes, but Tate Publishing has worked with me on correcting these issues. Now, When in Maui is out, world wide and edited and formatted beautifully.
I was given, When in Maui by Colleen Nye to read for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. I love the characters and the lives they lead. I also love the friendship portrayed. I loved that it wasn't the typical boy/girl romance. So many romances are young girl falls in love with young boy, but this book came from the viewpoint of two mothers and divorcees. It just goes to show that love stories can happen at any age or at any stage of life. The only fault I found in this book is the transition between some scenes. Sometimes it just jumps from one scene in one paragraph and then a completely different in another. It took me off guard at times. But overall, this is a fun and easy read. I want to thank Colleen for such a great job and for allowing me to have this book to read and review....Stormi
This was a quick and easy read for me and I enjoyed the story line. I was intrigued by the characters and can I just say that the way the couple's meet seems dream like. Not sure how that would all play out in the real world, but it's fun to think of the what ifs:-)
Here is another amazing read from Colleen that you do not want to miss out on. Her characters in this story are strong and well built.
This story starts off with two best friends who worked very hard to lose weight and treated themselves to a trip. Vivianne ended up not going due to a horrible home life situation. Alice, Vivianne’s best friend ended up going with their other friends. What Alice didn’t know was that taking this vacation would absolutely change her life forever. It will also end up changing Vivianne’s life forever as well. Both Vivianne and Alice have their own obstacles when it comes to men and wanting to fall in love again. Are their hearts healed enough to open them up to these perfect men. You will find out what these strong women went through in their previous marriages.
Every woman wants to meet Ryan and Justin let alone spend time with them. These could possibly be the most perfect men and the ones that will help break those walls around their hearts. These men are everything would want in men to love them.
This book was wonderful! It had two extremely relatable main ladies, Alice and Vivienne. They had beautiful children, but not great marriages. It was so nice to see them find their happy, these two deserved it so much!!! I cannot wait to read the next one, I want to know what happens!!! You will love this book!!
I found this book a bit slow to get into but once I got into it, it was difficult to put down. I'm not sure what time frame this book took part but I would have expected there to be a lot more paparazzi following Ryan and Justin around.
This was a pretty good book, but it didn't really keep my interest. It just seemed drawn out. I love the idea of second chances for both of them, and the journey was funny at times. I'd have to say this book was more about London than Maui. I still gotta give When in Doubt a chance :-)
3 1/2 out of 5 stars When Alice goes on vacation in Maui without her best friend Vivianne who is at home with her kids and her crappy husband . When Alice meets her celebrity crush she is flustered . Vivianne comes to the rescue with hilarious results . Vivianne steps in and when they have so much fun with the men that waltzed into their lives . Will they be able to have fun and keep their crushes or will real life bring them down again .
Vivianne and Alice are such fun characters to read . Vivianne is such joy and full of life even though she is tied to a man that doesn't love her anymore . She wants to live but she doesn't know how . She is the comic relief to Alice who may be feisty but she is also very sad . They are fun to read and you will be giggling through out the book . They are well written and you will love them .
This book is a book that you can sit by the pool and read . The author takes us on a fun filled ride that will have you giggling . It has your fantasy of finding and falling for your celebrity crush and him falling in love with you . There are some fun times through out the book and the author did something different and its from just one of the characters point of view . So we see everything from Vivianne's point of view. Sometimes I felt the book was a little too wordy and it took away from the story . Also it dragged in some parts i felt it could of been thinned out just a bit . Over all I enjoyed this book and want to see if they really do end up all together in the end of the series . So check it out
This story read very different from other book I have read. It mostly came from one characters view point- Vivianne’s. With her telling the story of her and her friend Alice’s lives. The book at times was a little wordy but overall the story was a good story. The book does not end with book one so you will need to read books 2 and 3 to have the complete story. The other thing that threw me off was they are two single mom’s Alice working 2 jobs and Viv a freelance writer yet they go shopping all the time and buy fancy name brand clothes. Yes when they go to London the boys pay for some things but still a little unrealistic. I did like the banter between the girls, it is just like girls to want to know everything! Justin and Ryan are great guys and they are what every girl dreams of in a man. There are no graphic love scenes in this book just a few lines implying what they did together. I want to finish their story so Ifor one am looking forward to books 2 and 3.
The plot was fun, who doesn't dream of their celebrity crush sweeping them off their feet in a whirlwind romance that becomes true love? But the execution was a bit lack luster. Alice and Vivienne should have both been narrators as the story is about both of their romances. As it was, our narrator didn't meet Mr Right until chapter 9 of a 15 chapter book. That's a long wait. It was also a bit off putting that a husband/father was referred to as "the babysitter" and a divorced, mother of two referred to a friend's parents as "adults". The multiple "omg what happened???" followed by recaps of what was just read bogged the story down as did a lot of shopping, cleaning, packing, unpacking, and other mundane activities. Overall, it's a good story that just needs a bit of work to make it great.
Who doesn't love the idea of meeting a man who is good looking, famous, rich, sweet, loving, caring, loves his family and you both connect in a way that is fast yet wonderful. I love how ordinary woman are the ones that find good men. Alice is trying to get her friend Vivienne to come with her on a girl's vacation to Maui. Vivienne knows her husband will be mad and doesn't want to deal with all of his arguing about it. But when she changes her mind when he is a jerk and she finds a babysitter then heads to Maui. Alice meets a special man and we learn more about him plus his relationship with her. I actually had finished book 1 and I'm on book 2 right now , I'm loving these books. Who doesn't have dreams of being an ordinary person meeting someone special in their life. I'd love to give this book 10 stars , it wonderful
3.5 stars. After reading several more, um, smutty books, it was refreshing to read a more clean-cut book. (I don't mind language and am not a prude but sometimes it seems like a copout or lazy!) Both the men in the story were seriously sweet, Ryan especially.
A fun swoon worthy whirl-wind contemporary romance. I enjoyed the overall story but it was a little too wordy and repetitive that slowed the story down for me.
