Nate When Nathan Jackson's world shattered, and fell out from under him, his two best friends were there to help pick up the pieces. There’s nothing that Nate wouldn’t do for them.
It’s been a few years since then, and Nate’s life seems pretty content between his friends, work, and his love of dirt bike racing. When Nate’s out on the track, he can let it all go, be free, and finally feel at peace.
But when it comes to relationships, Nate's not looking for anything long-term. He swears that love isn't worth the risk—until she walks through the doors of Texas Jack's.
Charlie Charlotte Davenport knows that something has to give, or life will pass her by. It's time to add a little excitement to her routine. Charlie isn't expecting much, but with her friends at her side, she feels ready to break out of her shell. But something’s missing.
When she, and her friends, head out to Texas Jack's for a night of fun, Charlie meets him — Nathan Jackson. He just might be the man to help Charlie overcome her shyness, and shake up her world.
But first, Nate must be willing to let his guard down and take a chance on Charlie. And if that happens, can Charlie open herself up enough to let him in?
Author J.B. Morgan writes sweet romances with a good dose of humor, sensible heroines, good-decent guys, realism, and happily ever afters. Growing up, she would dream up hero-rescuing stories in her head, revolving around the boys she had crushes on at school. She's in love with the idea of love. Her debut novel, Holly Lane, landed her as a bestselling author in the Coming of Age genre, and her newest release is titled, Nate (A Texas Jacks Novel). She resides in Oregon where she's a wife and a mother of two. When she's not writing she can be found carting her kids everywhere, busy with volunteer work, or reading. She loves the NY Yankees, traveling, and her family.
This is another sweet romance from JB Morgan. Nate is a guy that you'll easily fall in love with. And Charlie is a girl that you'll be able to identify with.
There were so many great moments between them, but some of my favorites were their first date, and how honestly awkward it was. It was totally believable. I also loved the scenes with their whole group of friends. They were always good for a laugh.
Although, if I'm being totally honest (and I am), I did fall for a secondary character (again)...Holt. He's one of Nate's bff's and he was AMAZING. And call me crazy, but at one point when Nate was being a jerk, I detected some chemistry between Charlie and Holt. Now, maybe it was my wishful thinking, but I was totally on board with it if JB Morgan had decided to go there!
I hope Holt will get a book, and find his HEA.
As for Charlie and Nate, I definitely recommend checking this book out!
I loved that Nate, and Charlie, had a great set of friends who were humorous, as well as a great support. Charlie came from a good home, and there was something that Nate really wanted from Charlie's life that he craved, but didn't know if he could put himself back on the line- or his heart. Charlie wants something from Nate, as well, as she craves to shed her shell. These two were really great with each other, and I enjoyed their moments, friendships, hurts, and happiness, as well as finding what they truly wanted all along.
What I loved: 1. Humor 2. Made me cry 3. No foul language 4. No stupid over the top drama 5. No cheating 6. Sweet romance 7. Charlie's family 8. Friendships 9. No need to do stupid things to keep each apart from each other 10. Nate- sweet, country boy, who's story really got to me. 11. Charlie- sweet, caring, quiet girl, who wants to break free of her shyness.
It seems that I can seldom relate to many of the female main characters that I read about lately, especially in the New Adult genre. I had sworn off the genre (at least temporarily), but there was just something about the synopsis that beckoned me to give Nate a chance. I am really glad that I did! I could definitely relate to Charlie (Charlotte), and thought she was a rather refreshing character to read about. She kind of reminded me of myself when I was in my early twenties. I, too, was painfully shy and unsure of myself. I didn't really know how to flirt or act around guys that I was attracted too. She also had strong morals and was especially close to her family. While I am not especially close to my family (unfortunately), I love reading about characters who are, and I am enthralled by the whole dynamic. I also loved that Charlie lived on her own, yet had a great group of friends to look out for her and vice versa. Nate was a great character. He wasn't without his flaws or his demons, yet he was kind, patient, and quite romantic. I know that he probably wanted to go further (physically) with Charlie, yet he didn't push her. If I had to criticize one thing about this book, it would be the nicknames. As a very short girl myself, I wasn't really a fan of Nate calling her names that addressed her height. I know he meant them as an endearment, but I had somewhat of a hard time getting past that. Overall, this was a great start to a new series! I really liked the minor characters and even the the "villains" of the story. I am hoping that we will get to read more about Tucker, Holt, Naomi, and Halley in the upcoming books!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.
This was a very sweet book of a shy girl and an alpha, sexy cowboy. Charlie was a shy young lady with a big family that are all very close. Nate is a sexy cowboy that loves dirt bikes but tries not to get too serious with any woman because of a tragedy in his past. All of that changes the day Charlie walks into the bar with her friends.
Nate was attracted to Charlie immediately and Charlie couldn't believe he was actually talking to her because she considers herself a wallflower. But she eventually gave Nate a chance because she was also attracted to him.
They had their moments and had great friends which at times were a little overbearing but they meant well. Charlie family was the best. And Nate was a great guy that just needed the right woman to have him open up his heart. One thing I liked about Nate was that he wouldn't let women that tried to flirt with him disrespect Charlie. There was little drama in this story.
"She's a part of you now. She's under your skin, and in your heart. You know it. Ever if you want to fight it."
Nate: A Texas Jacks Novel is a sweet contemporary romance and follows the story of Charlie and Nate. Told from dual points of view, Nate pulls you in from the very beginning. From the moment you are introduced to the characters, you have to know more. They are real. They are down to earth. They are people that I can see myself hanging out with in real life. And as real as they are, they are in no way perfect; which almost makes them that much more lovable.
Nate and Charlie's story invoked so many feelings in me. At times taking me on an emotional and crazy ride. This book made me laugh. It brought tears to my eyes. It made me swoon and fall in love. And it frustrated me too. When you meet Nate, you can't help but fall for this broken man. He's not perfect. He wants to be with Charlie, but his past keeps him from moving on. So, yes, at times I felt myself frustrated at Nate. One minute he would be so sweet and swoon-worthy and then the next, I just wanted to reach through my kindle and shake him for breaking my heart. But, as crazy as Nate made me, in the end, he won me over.
And Charile, she was the best girl next door. She loved her family and was a faithful and dependable friend. She had never been in love before and Nate was just the challenge that she needed in her life. And at the same time, she was exactly right for Nate. She brought him back to life and slowly broke down his walls...
And the ending....Gosh, that ending!!! It was so perfect, so sweet. After everything that Charlie and Nate had gone through on their journey to HEA, I couldn't have imagined a better ending for the two them. It made me swoon and brought tears to my eyes. I just loved it.
JB Morgan has once again blown me away. She has once again showed me the beauty of sweet and clean romance. She has given me fun and entertaining characters. As well as side characters, I'm dying to know more about. And in the end, she has left me with such a special story, and a smile on my face.

Nathan Jackson's world shattered completely when he was younger, which messed him up badly, but his best friend's helped tape him back up. There's nothing he wouldn't do for them, but they're the only people that he will let anywhere close to him. So he has no desire for a relationship long term, as he believes love isn't worth the risk. Charlotte Davenport is the baby of a huge, loud family, but for whatever reason, she's very shy. She decides to shake things up, so she goes out with her friends to Texas Jack's to let loose, when she meets Nate. It took me a bit to get invested with Nate and Charlie, but once I did, the story really took off for me. That doesn't mean that I was happy with some of Nate's bone headed decisions, as I wanted to punch him, but in the same breath, I wanted to shake the sweet Charlie a time or two. But one thing that was perfect, was the colorful cast of secondaries, that made for the perfectly placed humor that had me rolling, and I cannot wait to see if their stories are told soon. JB Morgan has a talented writing style that has me wanting to read more of her work. There was a place or two that I didn't see coming, so even though the book was clean, my f-bomb dropping was not. Please please please put out the next book in this series asap! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Nate A Texas Jacks Novel by JB Morgan is a stand-alone romance novel. Meet Charlie Davenport. She has 4 siblings, great friends and they´re loud and love each other. And there is Nate- Nathan. He works in construction and races bikes for fun, he has great friends. He doesn´t do relationships. They meet in Texas Jacks, a bar and have a insta-connection. They like each other just fine, but Nate has issues and secrets and he doesn´t do relationships. Charlie is a great heroine, I really liked her character. She´s down to earth and witty. Nate made me angry at times. He´s hot than cold. This book goes at a slow pace. Nate learns to work out his issues and talk with Charlie about his troubled past, his lifegoals and love. Thank you JB Morgan.
Enjoyable story. Kinda slow and repetitious in spots, but overall interesting and good. I liked that it was a clean book that didn't have everyone hopping from one bed to the next and being total fiends. The love between the two main characters (Nate and Charlie) actually develops as you read and there are actual dates and conversations to delve into. I found this a nice break to what most books bring to the table nowadays. Now, don't get me wrong, I read a range of romance, but this was a nice shift and kick-back to a simply good book. Nate's hurt goes deep, and it was life-changing for certain. He hasn't really lived since. Charlie realizes life is passing her by and wants what every other member of her family has seemed to have found - love and life. Both go to Texas Jacks looking for something and find much more than they thought possible. I loved the updates into the future at the end.
I really enjoyed Nate! I started as soon as I could but life kept getting in the way. (When does it not, right?) When I finally sat down and read it, I couldn't put it down! I also read Holly Lane by JB Morgan and totally fell in love with the characters. But with Nate it was different, I found myself completely identifying with Charlie and developing this love/hate relationship with Nate! I fell into this book so deeply I've been having a hard time keeping my mind from wandering back to it since I've finished! With hearty family relationships, great friend connections, real life situations, and getting to hear it all from both sides? Nate is a gem. Don't miss it!
I was given a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review. This was a sweet love story about a cowboy with a troubled past and a quiet girl named Charlie. I noticed a lot of repeating in this book, which was a bit distracting, but overall this was a good, lighthearted read. I felt like the second quarter of the book was a little slow, but eventually the story picked up and it held my attention. I really enjoyed the epilogue! This is something that we don't get in a lot of books, but I'm so glad this author included it. The supporting characters were great and I can't wait to read about them in the next book in this series!
I finished this and all I could think was Aww!!! A totally sweet read with characters that I couldn’t help but all in love with, although I have to admit to a genuine soft spot for a cowboy in a storyline. So who is the story about? Well Charlie was the typical girl next door, a solid family loving young woman that was happy at the back of the crowd so to speak, a little bit of a shy girl, little did she know that one visit to the bar with her friends would change all that because from the second Nate laid eyes on her as she traipsed across the bar with her friends, everything he thought he wanted in his life suddenly took a step to the left…making room for a certain little lady that had more than piqued his interest. Nate was a fantastic character, one that lived for his job as a cowboy, his dirt bikes and the commitment free relationships and with a past like his I wasn’t surprised but straight off the bat he wanted Charlie, but could he will her over or would she wonder what the heck was going on a run a mile? I could almost hear the cogs whirring in her brain trying to decipher why a guy that could have anyone he wanted was interested in her but she sold herself short, she was a pretty girl with a heart of gold…why on earth wouldn’t he be interested in her! I was whooping when she eventually got with the program and gave him a shot, I just had to keep my fingers crossed that the chance he had was enough. Their relationship wasn’t exactly choppy but it was eventful, I liked most of the secondary characters (especially Holt) but some of them well let’s just say I will leave you to make up your own mind about them but I was reading to throttle them! I loved the connection that I got to the pair of them as I watched their relationship develop, their first date made by soul smile and the way that Nate opened up to Charlie about his past was beautiful, she was able to show him that the past can be left behind and that his future was what he wanted it to be. And Ladies…. just you wait till you get to that ending….it is PERFECT!!!!
A sweet story with Nate and Charlie. I was a bit confused at first when the book seemed to indicate Nate and his buds were commitment-fobes, no more than one nighters. However, this is a sweet romance with nothing more than kissing.
Nate doesn't get involved. He has some baggage and doesn't want a woman to add to his life. Charlie changes all that. Not that he wants to get involved, she just calls to him. She's sweet and shy with a bit of sass he loves to bring out. They start a relationship by not calling it a relationship or anything else. She and her two BFFs meet Nate and his two roomies and fellow construction workers at Texas Jack's Roadhouse.
This relationship develops very slowly. He is gentle, kind, they have fun, mostly in the group of six. The other four seem to pair up, but don't call it a relationship either. He refuses to talk about his family and doesn't encourage conversations about hers. A serious loss he has never recovered from is keeping him from really living. While Charlie has lived her life watching others, the shy girl. She is ready to change and being with Nate is helping her succeed.
Nate backs off after Charlier learns more than he is ready to reveal. Will they be able to overcome the baggage he carries and the decision of Charlie to live life more fully?
The storyline is good, the characters very likable. The conflict wasn't strong for me, however, for others, it may have worked better. I would have preferred to see the story progress a bit faster. There was a lot of unnecessary repetition. For example, a doctor gives an update to Charlie. He repeats the entire prognosis to another group shortly after. It could easily have been handled with a "The doctor repeated his condition to...." The story is told the first person by both Charlie and Nate. Too often they repeat what was explained by the other and not because they interpreted it differently. A bit of tightening up would make a faster pace and better keep the interest of the reader. Still, an enjoyable read, especially for those who prefer clean language and a little sexual tension but not physical acts. Reviewed for Words Turn Me On
This would be my first read by J.B Morgan it was a sweet romance a different pace then what I usually read , the characters were really likable but I did get frustrated a couple of times but in the end it was quite enjoyable . Nate and Charlie made a great couple I think they were what the other needed they brought the person that they wanted to be out , Charlie was a relatable heroine she reminded me of myself at times . Nates story was truly heartbreaking I fell for him right away I want to find me a country man now . The secondary characters were really likable and funny the group of friends had each others backs and they shared hilarious banter . Nate A Texas jacks novel was emotionally driven with a beautiful ending . copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero = 9 heroine = 9 secondary characters = 9 Chemistry = 10 romance = 8 humor = 10 darkness level = 5 enjoyment = 9 story line = 9 character development = 10 pacing = 10 POV= dual ending = hea cover = 10 stars = 4 author = 9 would I recommend this book = yes would I re read this book = yes would I read future books by this author = yes
Nathan or Nate he is know to his friends is struggling to believe that he should love another person when he meets Charlie and his world is turned upside down. He is living with grief and needs to deal with this before he can commit to Charlie for the long term but in doing pushes her and everyone else that cares about him away.
Charlotte or Charlie as her friends and family call her is the shy one of a big family and decides to try having some fun starting with going out with her friends. She doesn't plan on meeting Nate at the club that night but when she does he makes her life better, shows her how to live and not worry and enables her to come out of her protect shell. But Charlie knows that Nate is hiding something vital about himself from her and this starts to push them both in opposite directions.
I really liked this book as once in a while it is nice to read a book not filled with sex scenes and focuses more on the relationship. I also hope that Holt and Tucker get a book each too!

This is the story of Nate and Charlotte, Charlie. A chance encounter between the two brings Callie's sweetness, but also, her fears and shyness, to light. Nate is dreamy and is more than happy to move at her pace.
Nate is a 100% sweet romance. The chemistry between the two main characters is palpable and the two really connect on a personal level.
The plot felt a little busy, and there were quite a few side stories which distracted this reader a bit. At times, I found myself more interested in one of the side plots.
Overall, Nate was a 3.5 star read for me. I would recommend it to the reader looking for a low steam, high angst romance.

This is one of those books you read if you need a sweet romance with no sex. Charlie is the quiet wallflower kind-of girl. She'd rather just hang out either at home or with her family. Her friends are the outgoing ones and they drag her out whenever they can. It actually works to her favor.. one night she meets Nate. Their meet is even cute, she makes him work for her phone number and a date. Nate is an interesting character. He's got some major issues, one being relationships. He lost the center of his world and it all came crashing down. He never had the chance to grieve. So now with Charlie, he has no clue of what he's doing. They don't label and when they go on dates, its usually with their group of friends. I thought that was cute at first but then it became kinda annoying. How can you have a relationship when you're never alone? This was a definite change from what I've been been reading so I enjoyed that.
omg what a sweet read. Charlie is shy and kinda hides in herself, she feels doesn't catches the eye of many men which she's ok with but she does want to find the "one,", one night while out with friends at Texas Jack's she may have just found him. Nate isn't against relationships but it's just not what he's looking for right now, but when he sees Charlie it's an instant need to be with her. They have great chemistry but Nate can't let go of the past and give himself completely even though he wants to, can Charlie prove she's in all the way and make him see he is too.
This book for me is between 3.5 - 4 stars. I have to start out saying this is a sweet genre book so if you are looking for a book to burn up your kindle this is not it. In saying that I still enjoyed the story. Nate and Charlie spend time getting to know each other and we get a really realistic view of those early dating times. Waiting for the text or phone call and getting excited when it does. Things are not all smooth sailing however and we get a chance to see two confused people trying to work out this crazy thing we call relationships. I found parts really sweet, some really funny but there were a few times where I just wanted to story to move along. I was also sad with not knowing how the friends stories ended I got quite invested in them too so I will be following this author from now on so I can see when their stories are released.
A refreshing and sweet love story with really likeable characters.
This was a really enjoyable and easy read; it had just the right amount of tension, balanced beautifully with a blossoming live between the two MCs.
As with most romances, there's a hidden darkness/heartbreak that you uncover as the story develops, which helps you empathise with the characters on both sides of it.
The two MCs are strong, well developed characters that don't fall into the typical alpha male and damsel in distress stereotypes, which was really refreshing.
This is the story of Nate and Charlie who are the perfect couple together, and bring out the best of each other. I loved the banter with the secondary characters. No spoilers from me, you need to read this one for yourself! This is a sweet, funny, and entertaining romance story, which had me hooked from the very beginning. I recommend this authors work for all romance lovers out there. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book!
This is a sweet story about young love and heartache.
Nate is on his own dealing with losing his mom at a young age. Living with his 2 best friends he has ambitions to own his business with his friends, continue to race and date casually, that is until Charlie walks into his life.
Charlie is young and shy but when, but when she meets Nate she wants to open up. Through a series of misunderstandings she finds it hard to trust him. Can things get better?
I found the book to be sweet but I had a hard time relating to the characters especially Charlie. I never got why she is as shy and insecure as she is. I could relate a little more to Nate but was missing some key elements with him also. The story seems to be done in snippets and that may have been part of my confusion. That being said I did enjoy the secondary characters and the ending for Nate and Charlie was good.

Sweet and romantic with a bit of a twist.
I really like this story. Charlie and Nate are just wonderful. J.B. Morgan always makes the characters come to life as they tackle real life problems. This story just comes alive as you read. You can see the characters in your mind and by the end of the story you feel like family. This story is young love and figuring life out. Coming to terms with great loss and learning to depend on others.
I laughed and cried. Extremely well written fun read.
I could have done with out the repeating so much, and I got frustrated, but kept reading. The beginning and quarter in were a bit boring and slow. I understand the end needed a set up, but that was a long set up. The end was great a sweet love story of forgiveness and letting go.
This is the first book of Ms.Morgan's that I have read and I have to say it was a very sweet love story. I loved how all the friends paired up but were still loyal to each other. The banter was witty and fun. I will be interested to see how the rest of the series shakes out!
After reading the description of Nate, I was really excited to read this book. I love a good romance, especially ones in which the lead male character cannot fully open his heart in his relationships. However, unfortunately this book didn't do anything for me.
I really struggled with finishing this book, but I kept at it hoping it would get better. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. One of my major problems had to do with the characters. We never really get to know Charlie or Nate except for the bare minimum. For most of the book all we see them doing is working, sitting at home watching tv, out on their lunch breaks, or hanging at with their friends at the local bar or race track. The only real key dialogue came when we learn about Nate's past as he is drunkenly spilling his heartache to Charlie, and at the end when we see Charlie and Nate address the problems in their relationship.
The plot was also very bland. Shy girl goes to a club with her girlfriends where she meets an outgoing boy who helps her start living her life, all while the boy struggles with his past. Boy tries to distance himself from girl because he doesn't want to open up to her fully, and then an accident occurs that brings the two back together where they realize the want to be part of each others life. Couple works through problems and live happily ever after. When done well, this plot is perfectly fine. However, in this case it was just so predictable and boring. There was absolutely no substance and the author didn't dig deep enough into Nate's issues to make the book interesting.
Lastly, the writing of the book was a turn off for me. The author gives us so much detail as to what the characters are wearing and the mundane tasks they perform, but doesn't go into any detail when it matters. Nothing happens in the book until you find out about Nate's past, and after that the only thing important that happens is the resolution to the story. I honestly can't tell you anything substantial about the characters, but I can tell you what the bathing suit the lead female character picked out looked like. The book has quite a few grammatical errors and the author uses the same words repetitively. Also, who says fuddy-duddy?
Unfortunately, I can't recommend this book. There is no romance in this book so if you are looking for a book with even the least bit of action, you won't find it here (unless you just want to read about kisses on the forehead or quick pecks). The characters are bland, the plot is unoriginal, and absolutely nothing happens throughout the book. I think if the author focused more on developing the characters and their personality, as well as adding some plot twists or something interesting to the story, it might have worked.
I received an advance ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I had a hard time with book because, frankly, it's boring and mediocre. It has an accumulation of little things that I find irritating that hindered my enjoyment and progression of the book. Though this isn’t bad book, that doesn’t make it good either. And I did not enjoy reading it.
CONS - Switching POVs multiple times in one chapter. One POV per chapter (preferably lengthy) is fine. But when you switch off between the two main characters after just a page and a half, that’s annoying and unnecessary. I do not need the POV of BOTH characters getting ready to go to the club. Don't switch POVs in the middle of a makeout scene. Too many POV shifts only serve to lengthen the book with filler. - Slow with little to no progression. I felt the background and attempt to familiarize the reader with the cast was forced and a struggle to read through. Learning to give the right amount of time to support characters is a fine line I think this author needs to work on. The beginning of this book only works if the reader is truly that interested in the rest of the characters. - Nathan’s possessiveness over Charlie when Dave (the rival) is irritating. He was possessive day one and it got worse on day two. That shit is NEVER okay. It’s ugly and leads to problematic, disgusting, misogynistic behavior. Please stop glorifying this bullshit in romance novels as if this is a reflection of love.
PROS - No typos. Definitely went through an editing process. - Clean book with some awkward, cute moments and actual dating. - The main couple got together fairly quickly and was not dragged out but barriers (minus the general filler of the book)
I received a free copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I received a free book copy of this book for my review. I wanted to like this book. I tried. Read until chapter 9 and I couldn't do it anymore. DNF. It was slow moving and we were given snippets of what was going on. No development into who the characters were as people. Very surface level. The nicknames got to be old and I just couldn't buy into Charlie and Nate as a couple.
So this book is set in Texas and this may sound weird of me to stereotype since I’m from the Philippines, but I just can stop myself from reading the book with a southern accent in my head! Especially when Charlie calls Nate 'Cowboy'
I absolutely loved this book, you don't often find a book about a shy girl who gets the perfect man.
This book is amazingly written.
I love Charlie, she may be shy but she tries and gets out of her comfort zone. She usually stands in her friends shadow, but we see her start breaking out of her shell, and being less shy. She loves her life and her family. She didn't realise finally letting herself get out of her friends shadow would bring such wonder. Charlie and friends antics made me smile.
I love Nate, even though I wanted to smack him sometimes, he has a huge heart. He maybe scared, but I could see why he be scared. He is also very protective and funny. He and his friends made me laugh a lot through this book.
