Great book! This is definitely a must read! The storyline is so interesting and you're sucked into it from first page, and finished reading it in no time. The writer really paints a picture for with great attention to details which I love in stories like these.

Another wonderful young author I discovered thanks to IG is Nicoline Evans. Haemans is the first book in her series, and I'm addicted to her writing (pun intended). When descendants of the Romanov family are discovered a century after they were initially thought killed during the Russian Revolution, the world rejoices. But Mikhail and Melina had a secret plan to take over the country.

I don't post spoilers, but this novel was such an original concept that I was sucked in from the first chapter. Evans' writing is crisp and smooth, and the storyline flows evenly throughout the tale, with very little wasted space. The characters, both protagonist and antagonist, are well-crafted , with backstories and motivations that really bring them to life for the reader. For such a young author, Evans has already mattered the art of spinning a yarn the reader can really enjoy.

Was intrigued by book premise from the very start, as well as the unique setting and well-formed characters. This book is a gripping, haunting romantic read as well as an incredibly astute social commentary. I also think it's a devastatingly accurate account of addiction and the demons that come alongside, both from the POV of an addict and their loved ones. Really, really interesting read with a suspenseful ending that leaves you wanting more!

Great book. Russia finds its lost royalty. But the royals bring a bad new world with them. Story of two who love each other's but lives split because of addiction. Great plot & characters!

Please don’t take this review as reason for you to try or not try the book. ( only if wondering what could possibly be in it that makes you uncomfortable) I rather you experience the book itself as whole rather then one main person views on it.

Warnings: ( just a heads up) Before you think about reading this . You should know that there is heavy on the gory side, has mentions of r**e, domestic abuse,maybe some eating disorders,suicide, drug use, and heavy addictions.

I just learned why the format is not so good, it was published on createspace and I’m guessing it was a first book. But it doesn’t bother me as much as it did when I first opened it.

First , I actually loved the writing. It was so dark and chilling, I actually had a cold feeling on my spin. It was paced at a good enough way. Along with the fact that we got to know the settings, the characters, the aura of the story as a whole. Believe it or not, this is my first book that I read in Russia and I love reading books from other settings than where I’m from. So, that’s a major plus for me!

The main thing that made me uncomfortable was the r**e scenes , I wish I had known about that before had.

Second, the characters were not only diversein backgrounds but also opinions. I like see how this whole fad was affecting everyone despite some of not being my favorite character. Though some I would feel like would be great friends with me. I really did like some of the characters development so that was good .

Third, the only thing that made me fall for this story was plot and how it developed. I liked the pacing it really did help on some parts. Anyway faster would have been boring. Alongside with the fact that it helped add some tension to some parts of the story.

Last, I am definitely hoping to read the sequel of this novel . And any other works of Nicoline Evans. I bet their writing has improved since then !

I suggest if you love dark , enchanting stories with packed filled action and a supper weird addiction to something else weird. Along with apocalyptic vibes ( not zombies but still creatures) then this story is perfect for you!

I bought Haemans thinking it was a vampire book. It... sort of is? Not really? It's hard to explain. Yes to the blood drinking and superhuman abilities, no to actual vampirism. So it wasn't quite what I expected going in. Still, it was really interesting. Firstly, it's set in Russia. I don't think I've ever read a book set in Russia before, so that was really cool. I didn't love the main character's mission, as it involves a dude saving a girl who doesn't want to be saved at the risk of a bunch of other people, and so I just couldn't get behind him at all. I really liked some of the side characters, though. I found the dialogue to be a bit clunky, but the action and pacing more than made up for that. And the villain is someone I would happily run over with a bus, back up, and do it again.

Haemans is an off beat book that wraps drug addiction in a dystopian world where people are obsessed with drinking their own blood.
Nicoline’s writing is fast paced and had me hooked from the first page. This books is not just about addiction but at the bottom of it is a entangled messy love story that keeps the readers glued. Although it gets frustratingly one sided at times and the cliffhanger at the end is annoying, but I am now reading the next one in the series to see how the story goes.

One of the coolest concepts I have read in a while! I really love the aesthetic of this book and the blood filled luxury it conveys! It’s so intoxicating!
The story line is interesting and the characters are all so distinguished - I kept putting the book down only to think about when I could pick it back up and read what would come next.
My only wish is that the characters backstories were more prevalent - I would love to see that depth.
Otherwise, a GREAT and entertaining read!

Not the spooky read I was expecting, but still a compelling dark read. I adored the character of Rina and how her addiction both enslaved and empowered her in different ways. Some parts are downright uncomfortable to read, particularly with the glorification of cutting, but the world building is exceptionally unique for this dark society and I was highly impressed with how naturally the characters carried the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing was excellent and did a great job shifting from each character as the chapters progressed. The flashbacks to when Sevrick and Rina met and were building their relationship helped explain why she means so much to him. There’s a lot here: tension, despair, sadness, action, love and hope. Moving on to book #2 wasn’t even a question once I got to the last page.

Such a fun world to get immersed in. I have an addict in the family and Nicoline did such a great job in portraying the addicted Haemans vs their hurt families/lovers etc. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. Her characters were so easy to love AND hate that it drew me into their world fully.

DNF’d at page 149. I really wanted to keep reading this but it became difficult with constant description of how the haemans drank their own blood. I think I would have been fine if they weren’t slowly draining their own blood throughout the day with glass jewelry, shoes, etc. draining the blood. I am not a fan of needles and this brought out that queasiness.

So, trigger warning for anyone else who has a problem with needles or blood.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The author's creation of a brand new type of creature, the themes of addiction/co-dependency, and tackling other very serious issues. There were a few instances in which the author repeated the same facts more times than I really wanted to read, but overall the novel was great.
