Still reeling from the loss of Master Splinter, the turtles are sent to a foreign land with no help and no idea how to get back. How will these reptilian relatives react when they see this world's resident mutant lizard community? And how will they ever get back home?
The early TMNT comics are wild. Cyborgs powered by brain creatures, triceratop humanoids from a trillion light years away. Cool stuff. Eastman and Laird do a great job with the artwork. There's a lot of great B+W comics from the late 80s period but this is certainly one of the strongest.
So, the first volume gave us a story about four turtles and a rat who, through a one in a million chance, were mutated by radioactive sludge. The rat, who had previously learned Ninjutsu by observing his owner (a Ninja) from his cage, becomes a master and instructs our adolescent heros in the secret art of the ninja. They now dwell in the sewer and battle against the mysterious Foot Clan. I have no problem with that.
This volume however sees our reptile buddies go into space and for some reason that seems over the top to me. I don't know?
All in all though it was still an enjoyable story and the energy of the first volume was still present.
Another shocker of a story arch. The turtles barely do anything in the last three issues. Krang and his species are actually good guys and the creators of the ooze?! Very interesting to see how much got changed for the cartoon and rest of turtle lore.
Recently deciding to read the original Mirage books. This continues to not disappoint. Although the 2k3 show did the stories, it's nice to see them in their original creator's vision. Some of the turtles individual personality's shine's through more in this volume too. Cool art from co-creator's Eastman and Laird.
