Lacey’s Story...

Covering up pain is easy. It’s keeping it tucked away that’s hard. I’ve always needed the cover of tattoos to hide the nasty past that leached its way into me, tainting me beneath my skin.

Not the shiny, trendy tats, but the ugly broken kind, meant to keep the world at bay. If they weren’t enough, then my piercings, foul mouth and crazy hair usually did the trick. Life had taught me to never follow the rules, because when you do, you get burned.

My life was perfectly imperfect until Tripp…

Our relationship is what most would describe as fuel meeting fire. We were both hell bent on burning each other to the ground. Tripp was sexy as hell, a charismatic beast, and soon became one of my best friends. We shared a love of ice cream and tattoos as we blazed our own path that could only lead to a beautiful train wreck.

The only question left is, will we set the countryside ablaze with our hot tempers and foul mouths? Or will we paint our own happy ending filled with all the gushy shit normal people crave?

Mature Content Warning. Recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual content. Please note: this book was previously named My Today.

⭐️ 1 Star ⭐️

* * * SPOILERS * * *

<<< CHEATING H >>>

♦️BOOK: #2 in the MY WAY series. Can be read as a standalone but features most characters from book 1. Full length.

♦️EDITING: a few minor errors found

♦️POV: dual first person

♦️SETTING: small town near Fort Collins, Colorado

♦️HERO: Tripp Fitzpatrick--Former pro baseball player. Works/lives on his cousin Cree's farm. Addict - alcohol, sex, cocaine. Big, ripped, brown hair & eyes, tattooed.

♦️HEROINE: Lacey--Hair stylist. Brash, ballsy, crude, tough, foul-mouthed. Has been used & mistreated by men all her life. Short, curvy, blonde, tattooed, pierced.

♦️WARNING: Tripp cheats on Lacey. They were happily in love, in a relationship when he finds out that her ex-fuck buddy was invited to dinner by Milly (Lacey's bff). He's so angry and jealous he gets fucked up, says nasty, hurtful things to Lacey and flirts heavily with her friend. Tripp then goes to a bar with Lacey's ex-fuck buddy & another friend and has an orgy with them & a few chicks. To top it off, he flaunts it in front of Lacey the next morning at breakfast, letting a woman touch him, kiss him, sit on his lap like Lacey loves to do, causing Lacey to freak out.

Not gonna lie, it was extremely difficult to read how quickly and easily Tripp cheats. Yeah, he's sorry, but not enough. They go to counseling and it's never mentioned again...but I don't like cheaters! Sorry, not sorry. They come a long way by the end and I don't think he'll ever make those mistakes again but it was just too big of a betrayal for me to forgive. They have to really fight for their HEA. They both have suffered quite a bit because of their horrific fathers. There were a lot of sweet and funny moments as well.

♦️STEAM LEVEL: moderate, 3.5/5

♦️ENDING: HEA, No Epilogue, No cliffhanger

♦️SWEET QUOTES:
“My love is the forever kind… Love, Dad”

“I’m here. I want all of you… the nasty, the beautiful, the princess, the trashy, the sexy, the outlaw. All of you.”

♦️TAGS & STUFF: cursing, insta-love, sex & drug addiction, unprotected sex, betrayal, H cheats on h, descriptive cheating sex scene w/ H and two women, attempted suicide, rehab, patricide, arson, rape of a child by father, abortion

This book was so bad that I wanted to cry at some points. The writing just...terrible. It's my fault for thinking it was possible, for this author to improve. I read two other books by her and disliked them both, including part 1 of this series. The plot does not develop organically instead it seems rushed and forced. Events don't happen in a natural progression they just happen at a frenetic and unreal pace.

First rule of creative writing is to show not tell, there's a hell of a lot of telling and not much showing. The characters are poorly developed and are, frankly, immature assholes. Both of them but Tripp more so. Some guy that Laney slept with years ago gets invited to dinner and he goes on an alcohol, drug, and sex infused bender in which he treats Laney like shit and then cheats on her. Then she goes and tries to kill herself? Really? Over that idiot? Um, no.

It just got cheesier and more ridiculous from there. Tripp has an epiphany that he's an asshole so he counterbalances it by becoming a total and complete pussy spouting the most horrendous dialogue ever and crying at the drop of a hat. Even worse than all of Laney's idiotic ramblings. One of the parts that made me roll my eyes the most is when Milly, Laneys BFF, finds out Laney may be pregnant and that she has kept her suspicions to herself. Milly flips. She goes all psycho bitch and starts ranting and raving to Laney, something along the lines of Laney not thinking Milly is good enough to tell she thinks it's possible she may be pregnant. Are you effing kidding? When is that's Milly's problem? Why does she need to be informed that her friend thought she might be pregnant? When did Laneys possible pregnancy become all about Laney? The level of idiocy and immaturity in these characters is astounding.

Note to self: never, ever, under any circumstances read another book by this author. Don't forget how horrible this was. Don't be swayed by other reviews. Don't succumb to an intriguing blurb, just stay away.

Broken.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Two lone, broken hearts manage the pain and anguish, together, so they can heal together.

Lacey is the baddest bitch, ever. Well, on the outside that is. She has walls built up around her heart, and refuses to love, because she has experienced too much pain in her short life. She hides the pain, deep beneath the surface. She covers the scars with tattoos, marked all over her body. She simply learns to exist.

Tripp. Ahhhh sweet, sexy Tripp. He never gets the girl. His life has been centered around travesty and heartache. Such a tragic life for a professional baseball player. He loses everything to addiction, and has nobody to turn to, but Cree.

When Lacey and Tripp first meet in My Now and Forever (My Way Book 1), they have brazen, yet playful friendship. Lacey thinks Tripp is a douche canoe. Tripp thinks Lacey is a bitch. But there is a magnetic pull between Lacey and Tripp. Although they keep it friendly in the beginning,Lacey always finds her way to Tripp's lap (lucky bitch), then eventually to his bed, then right, smack, dab into his heart.

Lacey and Tripp begin a wild, mind blowing, sexy relationship. But jealousy gets the best of them, and tragedy strikes. Apart, Lacey and Tripp realize that their hearts will stop beating, without the other half...each other. After a stint of counseling, they find their way back to each other, and begin their healing process. So much heartache is revealed for Lacey and Tripp. The anguish these two experience is devastating, and gut wrenching.

Despite all of the heartache they lived with apart, happiness found them together, as a family. Cree, Milly, Annie and Mac, were right there, all along, in love and support. Lacey and Tripp get their happy ending, but not without more excitement, tears, and sadness.

HEALED.....

HJ Bellus. This woman is one frickin' talented author, who holds nothing back in her writing. She is bold, and brazen. She dares to stand out, makes a statement, and simply doesn't care. When I read My Now and Forever (My Way Book #1), I fell head over heels for her witty remarks, playful banter, and just fun loving characters. My Today super exceeded all expectations, going above and beyond my hopes for this book. I laughed, I cried, I was so pissed I wanted to bitch slap a certain someone (spoiler free). I felt Lacey and Tripp's heartache, their fear, their happiness. HJ pours so much emotion into her characters, they come to life within an instant. I was so pleased with this book, I am literally in awe. Milly, Cree, Tripp, Lacey, Annie and Mac are some of my favorite characters, I feel so deeply connected to them. I have felt their pain while reading their stories. This book was wonderfully written, and I cannot wait to see what HJ has in store for book 3 in the installment. My Today left me wanting more of this crazy misfit family. #celebratemisfits

This book needs a big fat disclaimer, a warning of what these pages hold, a f*cking hint so that I wouldn't have been blindsided. I was in no way prepared for this. I just recently read (and freaking LOVED) Cree. There was no way that Cree would ever morph into a .

Tripp (better known as Beast) is a recovering alcoholic, drug using whoring bastard, I mean...naw, that is what I meant. The very first scene showed his true colors, so I guess that I did get a small inkling that he was a jerk...but the way he acted with Lacey from that moment on made me fall in love with him little by little, comment by comment, ass slap by devouring kiss.

So why the four star rating you ask? Well, if "the incident" hadn't happened I would have given this book a solid fifty stars. Yeah, it is that damn good. So good in fact, anyone who knows me knows that but I still finished this book, and actually loved it!

Lacey, Milly, Willow, Annie, Mac, hot-as-hell Cree and even silent Greyson made this book. Beast actually redeemed himself, well mostly...I'm not picturing gelding him with a spoon and rusty nail anymore.

The running joke about Beast's had me in stitches every time!

So here it is, the warning that SHOULD have been on this novel:

If I were you I would skip ahead about 5 pages after you find out that is coming to dinner. If these pages were not there well, this would be a very different review.

Reread ==> June 10, 2022

Tripp was a raging asshole and I gave up my lovely lady humps to him. Un-freaking-believable!

“Make yourself disappear before I come back out!” Tripp yelled. “What?” “I said get the fuck out of my house. Now!”

“What were you saying, you fucking dickhead?” “I, uh…Lacey, I didn’t know it was you. I got pretty fucked up last night and…” “Don’t worry, Tripp. You weren’t worth remembering.”

Alcohol was either always my friend or nemesis. I could control my consumption when I wanted to. Cocaine and sex were my go to drugs to numb all the pain in my life.

HJ has done it again! Lacey and Tripp are quite the pair. When life gives you a sucky hand they figure out a way to pick up the pieces and make the puzzle picture perfect. And of you course you get Milley and Cree and Annie and little Mac back too. This will have you on an emotional roller coaster ride that you will love. The characters are so well written and HJ puts so much emotion in each and every one of them that you become attached to them. Whatever you do, do not read this book until you have read My Now and Forever.

It's that insta-love thing again. I'm more of a slow burn type reader. Not that I didn't enjoy this book. It had everything in it. Drama, comical banter, sadness, heartbreak, and hotter than HOT sexy times. Two amazing main characters that are broken. And, a support system of loyal and protective friends that don't hesitate to always be there. Totally enjoyed his one and looking forward to reading the last in the series about Willow....

I read book one in the My Way series (My Now & Forever) with expectations of a good read, but your run of the mill romance. I was knocked of my feet totally by it and it was (until My Today) my absolute favourite book of the last few years.

I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of My Today by the author ad once I started, I couldn't put it down. I was done with it in less than 24 hours and left yearning for more.

The great thing about the series first of all is that while the characters and their lives cross over, the stories are individual. This gives you the breather that you need at the end of the rollercoaster ride that they take you on!

So, My Today.

Lacey is beautiful, she is honest and fun and loves her family with all of her heart. You'll find out in book one that her family is a little different to most, but it's family all the same. Lacey has old wounds that are nowhere near healed but a fresh band aid each day helps her to ignore them, until the time comes to rip it off.

Tripp is damaged. He has his own issues and is doing his best to deal with them. He's drawn to Lacey, her tattoos, blonde hair and potty mouth have him eating out of the palm of her hand.

If you want your typical fairytale then this isn't the book for you, if however you're bored of the cookie cutter romance and want a gripping read that will have you laughing, crying and holding your breath then I urge you to read this book.

HJ Bellus has done it again.

Milly's story had me wiping my tears and yearning to hug her as tight as I can. Lacey's story captivated me, it broke my heart, then it warmed it right through. Lacey is no Cinderella, but she's somebody's princess.

"She lives her own fairytale"

If I could give more than 5 stars to this book, I would!

This is "THAT" book - the One that will tear your heart out and then work like Hell to put it back together again! Lacey & Tripp have both been thru some horrible "Life" experiences that have left them each so guilt-ridden, that they don't think they deserve that 'happy ending'! When Lacey sits down at that piano and plays her "sweet, painful music', I cried my eyes out! When they hit rock bottom, I was screaming my lungs out at them - to get their asses up, acts together, move forward and make it work! And the chemistry and sassy dialogue between the "crazy Hoochies" is laugh out loud hysterical. I loved the secondary characters and the roles they played in making this book so Fan-Freaking-Tastic! (OMG you will LOVE Annie!) I mean the book had it all, including a truly Friggin A-Mazing ending!
If you haven't read "My Now & Forever" (one of my favorite books of 2013) RUN and get it and read it before the release of My Today. It is the perfect prologue to this book!

First let me start off by saying that I absolutely love HJ Bellus!! She is a kick ass author with some pretty amazing books!!!

5 Stars!!!!

My Today is the second book in the “My Way” Series. I wasn’t sure that I could love a book as much as I did, My Now & Forever, but I was completely wrong!! This book is amazing and will totally rock your world!!!

In this story we are taken into Lacey and Tripp’s life. They haven’t had it easy, but have made the best of what they’ve been dealt. This book was such an emotional rollercoaster for me. Lacey and Tripp are so perfect for each other. They have each been through so much and think and don’t think they deserve to be happy. They have their ups and downs throughout the book. There were times when I wanted to shake them and beat some sense into them. Other times I was crying or laughing.

The other characters in the book are fantastic as well!! The friendship that Lacey and Milly have is priceless, Cree is still the hot captain, and Annie & Mac are just as cute as can be!!

This is a definite MUST READ!!!! Can’t wait for Willow’s Story!!!

This story is not for the weak at heart. You need to be a rebel princess to handle the obstacles and turn of events that is endured when reading this story. Well let's just say the humor continues but the trials and tribulations rival book one and leave it in the dust.

I cried and wanted to commit book murder to a couple of characters myself. The real mystery was solved but I had a gut feeling about the letter contents anyway but was NOT expecting that to be my biotches secret. I was knocked off my couch and could have smack him with a greasy burrito filled with poison.

Okay so I have to say "GO buy the book" NOW. Great story and I am happy to have found you through hosting the tour on Reading by the Book.

My Today by H.J. Bellus. What can I say that probably hasn’t been already said? This is a true heart wrenching story between two people that had unforgettable lives. This emotional story will take you through Lacey and Tripp’s heart breaking struggles. It will break you down to your very own soul. You will be wiping your tears and probably screaming uncontrollably. But you will be put together after a very emotional roller coaster and in the end your heart will be filled to capacity with joy and happiness.
Lacey and Tripp go through some serious ups and downs but with love and patience they learn to let go and learn to trust each other. They may have had an unfortunate pass but together they will get thru whatever it is to reach happiness. They were truly made for one another from Lacey’s independent will and sexed up tattoos, who keep it real till the end. Too Tripp’s sexy tatted up body and with great family values with the exception of his parents.
I loved that all the characters from “My Now & Forever” had crossed over to “My Today” and still were individual well written. It made me realize just how much I truly missed everyone. From Milly and Creed, Willow and Greyson too little Annie and her cute little baby brother Mac. How could you not love this family?
H.J. Bellus has captured my heart from the beginning with her debut novel “My Now & Forever” as I stated before. This author is a great writer and her style is fresh and marvelous. As always I will be looking forward to more books in her “My way” series.
This book is a must read even though it’s a fictional story it has true subjects that one wouldn’t dare dream of but some live with. I give “My Today” a 5 Star and would recommend this to anyone that is willing to forgo the regular romance stories. In every fictional story you read, there is always a lesson to be learned and this one is no different. ~*~ ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review ~*~

If anyone knows me they know home much I loved HJ BELLUS's 1st book- My Now & Forever- I loved it so much it was pretty much my #1 book for 2013 for a very long time- but like most books- there is always one that replaces the next with a new love...

When I read My Today- I was very sad in the beginning- I didn't get the feeling when I read My Now and Forever where I laughed- even teared up a little- It took me a long time to get into the story- BUT... when it did hit me it hit me hard! I loved it! It all started about 50% in the story- Lacey and Tripp's story was def full of WILD- full of angst and FULL of anger and LOVE..

A one night stand- well not really since they knew each other brought Lacey and Tripp together- even if they didn't want to, two broken people put together is nearly a nightmare waiting to happen-and boy was it a nightmare- for both!

A whole lot of sex- and bitterness- and past that neither you or I would wish for brought the trials of hope together for both Lacey and Tripp- sexual abuse, verbal and physical abuse along with family lies bring all of them together and they take you on a wild journey of HEA!...

You will find our sexy Cree, our fearless Milly and our other Bff Willow in the story also-- I love them!

HJ Bellus is wild by nature- and I didn't expect anything less from her- if you aren't into vulgar language or constant sex escapades this isn't the story for you- but if you want real honest raw $hit this is perfect- but remember you must read My Now & Forever first to get the full affect the story!!!

"I don't care. I love you for who you are now. Lacey, it's all about the 'todays', so let's live 'em up together." -TRIPP

I absolutely loved this book! Lacey's story is so heartbreakingly beautiful. She's a spitfire and no one stands in her way. Plus, Tripp is a perfect match for the crazy Lacey. He has dealt with so much heartbreak in his own life that it's only fitting he would find comfort in her.
Might I add that I love Tripp!! Like, I mean...Love him;) lol

"It could be a beautiful train wreck between us, you know"

They take so many ups and downs, but always seem to come back to each other. They understand each other and that was beautiful to see. There were parts in this book that made me cry because I FELT their pain! I wanted to reach through the book to comfort both of them.

"I always end up right here in your lap. It's the strangest thing."-LACEY
"It's where you belong and don't your forget it."-TRIPP

Let me also say that the way that Tripp was with Lacey made me melt!! Not just in the sexy scenes (which by the way are...WHOA!! Two words: SALON SCENE!!!), but the way he treated her as a princess and yet an equal. He was the ying to her yang, the cheese to her macaroni, the ink to her pen...ok, you get the picture:) hehe
I can not tell you how much I loved this story! They're aren't enough words!!

This is a book about proving to others, and yourself, that you should always be given a second chance. No matter how many times you are put down, you can always rise above. A must read:)

"You are my princess. I never get the girl and the happy ending. I'm making it happen this time." -Tripp

***I was given this ARC for a honest review***

Wow what a amazing story. I feel in love with Lacey in My Now and Forever. She reminded me of myself. I loved her crazy and unfiltered mouth "You do! Do you like, flog your log? Shuck your bubba? Hone your bone? Jiggle the jewelry? Hold your sausage hostage?" I cried and laughed so much in this book that someone would think I had gone insane. Hearing about Lacey's dark past hit me hard. I cried for her and thought she was one bad ass Ho Bag!!! I loved the relationship that she and Milly had. Reminds me so much of the sisterhood I have with My Ho Bag and Sexy Biotch. You really felt that strong and unbreakable friendship/sisterhood they had. Tripp just melted my heart. He was one hot ass sexy "Beast" I loved the relationship that these two broken souls had. They needed each other to heal the scars of their terrible upbringing. He knew just the right things to say to Lacey "You are my fucking drug, Lacey. You are it. I fucking need you to be me. I. Fucking. Love. You." This book was real and not some sappy ass love story. I was able to connect with these two characters in so many ways. I recommend this book to everyone!!!! I swear you will have a "PMP" moment. Awesome job HJ thank you for letting us hear Lacey and Tripp's story. Looking forward to hearing Willow's next.

Ok HJ Bellus, what the hell? You crazy Biatch made me sob like a freaking baby!! I absolutley LOVED IT!!!

Um Hello - Tripp is mighty fine! Lacey is amazing....how else to describe her than absolutely amazing! The adorable little spastic princess!

This story really put me through the ringer, down the drain and plunged back up again...does this make any sense? HAHA - I don't know how else to describe it.. I felt for both Tripp and Lacey. You could feel their pain.

You either wanted to hold them and comfort them or slap the holy shit out of them! Damn it, Damn it! But I absolutely loved every minute of it!

The bad boy and Tatted up Chick make the story even hotter and you can totally visualize them. Makes me want to go out and get another Tat myself!

I love the relationship between the girls. It is every girls dream to have friends like that and be able to say how you really feel without being catty. I really enjoyed their banter! Millie, Willow and Lacey are a total Hoot!!

Way to go HJ Bellus! Can't wait for the next story in the My Way Series!

Lacey doesn't take guff from anybody. She learned some harsh lessons years ago and wont waver on her motto of being just herself, the good, the bad, and the ugly. When Lacey wakes up one morning and finds notorious bad boy Tripp next to her she has a moment of regret, she doesn't remember a thing and she doesn't want to strain her best friends wedding with sleeping with the cousin of the best man.

What transforms after an initial blow out is a friendship that runs deep and quickly falls to love. Tripp is dealing with his own demons, while Lacey who thinks she has dealt with hers is left reeling when one second destroys everything they were building. Both Tripp and Lacey know they are each others match, but can they work through the issues with their past to create a new beginning.

This was an emotional rollercoaster, one minute you are laughing the next you are shedding a tear. You will fall instantly in love with Tripp and Lacey, their road together is not easy but so worth investing in the journey. Dynamic read.

Here I go..... I know this book will take me on a emotional ride....

Emotionally tired now

I think this is probably the only book I've read pretty much in one sitting~ I couldn't put it down. Lacey & Tripp are just perfect by the end of the book. I don't want to give too much away because it's not released yet but really a perfect Saturday or Sunday read!

to win the respect of intelligent people

appreciation of honest critics and
endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best

one life has breathed easier because
you have lived. This is to have

What a wonderful story! I loved Tripp & Lacey. Loved how both had such a hard past, facing demons left and right. Tragedy separated them, but in the end brought them together stronger than before.
Tripp, in spite of his harsh childhood and his addictions all he wanted was be loved by someone while Lacey because of her childhood abuse and loss of her mother, did not want to get attached to anyone. It was refreshing to see their funny banter against one another the love that bloomed. They both jumped in head first until a misunderstanding sent them both apart; as they try to recover from their past; and upon their reconnection, they knew that they would need each other in order to stay on track for their healing.
Tripp was her anchor and Lacey was his hope & heart for everlasting love. Wonderfully written story!

Note to self:

Let me preface by admitting I abhor weak, forgiving females and stories interspersed with angst. Reviews are for identifying preferences. I believe in forgiveness not hot heads that make bad decisions based on emotions. Unclear thinking leads to impulsive, regrettable decisions and taunting is simply juvenile.

Once a cheater, always a cheater. Can someone change? Absolutely. That change involves genuine regret and redemption, qualities lacking in this H.

Furthermore these best friends lack the positive qualities that impress me as a reader.

Many heroines written by Bellus appear as meek doormats, unrelatable heroines. Undeniably I am not the target audience, but still...

What a great book!! I love the BEAST!!! These books are so funny I swear sometimes I would giggle or have the goofiest smile on my face and my husband kept calling me a dork. There were some really unpleasent things touched upon in this book that totally broke my heart poor Lacey. But Lacey kicks ass and along with her biotch Milly and the BEAST she gets through it. Looking soooo forward to Willow's book. FYI these books have a kind of insta-love but it didn't bother me at all because the couples go through a lot with each other and I think that makes it more beleivable. Read this series now!!!!!
