Tease

Rate this book
Author Trisha Paytas, best known for her explosive memoirs The History of My Insanity and The Stripper Diaries, takes her first leap into erotic fiction with the shocking new novel, Tease.

Nineteen-year-old Mary is a typical college student, working occasional shifts at a local diner to make ends meet. There she meets Preston, an older man who sweeps her off her feet almost immediately.

But happiness quickly morphs into fear when Mary realizes that Preston’s sexual desires are mingled inextricably with his violent ones. As Preston becomes more and more domineering, never taking “no” for an answer, Mary finds herself torn between her own blind desire and Preston’s terrifying violence.

As she begins to view her sexuality as the ultimate form of control, Mary finds herself enjoying even the most depraved encounters. Whether falsely accusing her roommate’s boyfriend of rape or carrying on affairs with married men, Mary gleefully begins flexing her own violent tendencies.

With Preston’s brutality escalating, Mary descends into a world where she is teetering on the brink of insanity. Will she ever break free from the cycle of lust and power? Or will Mary go crazy in the process?

This could have been an incredibly interesting read. A college woman turns violent sexual murdering maniac after being raped by her stalker. It could have had some 'I Spit on Your Grave' vibes, but no. Trisha ruined that.
And I mean, what did i expect from Trisha Paytas? Surely not anything worth merit, definitely not something trying to be some sort of play on a female American Psycho.
But once I read the book in full, I realized that this story, had it been in competent hands, could have been an exciting, dark, and gritty read.
This was a rushed money grab. It was so slow, yet so fast all at the same time. I felt like the main character was just moving through the motions. There was absolutely no emotion in anything. Things like rape, murder, arrests, strip clubs, and regular beatings were completely glossed over. It read like "I did this then did this. Then I did this and went home to do this. And the next morning I woke up and went to school." Like....there was murder with a fork??? And multiple rapes?? And a perfectly normal girl having a downward spiral into insanity?? Like???? Anyway, dont read this. Its gross.

I couldn’t go on with my life knowing Trisha Paytas wrote an erotica book and I hadn’t yet read it. As you can imagine, it was awful and disturbing, but also just funny knowing that she really sat down and wrote this book and self published it. I think my goal this year is to get through every Trisha book.

I was very excited to read this book, it actually sounded like an alright romance novel. I was thoroughly disappointed throughout the whole novel and the only reason why I finished it was simply because I always read a book to the end so I can properly say I didn't like it. The characters were horribly portrayed and unmemorable. I read this a while back and I cannot remember any of the characters, other than the fact that the main woman was highly disturbed. I do not recommend this book to ANYONE. Whether they are a fan of Trisha, as I am, or not. It simply was horrible.

Back story to my reading this book:
Every year I do a reading challenge to try and force myself to pick up books I normally wouldn't. One of the 50 categories this year was "a badly reviewed book". Well I thought Trisha's book would fit perfectly into this category. The reviews were all either 1s (honest or people who hate her) and 5s (her fans who probably didn't even read the book)

So I bought this book for $1 online and I got my moneys worth. I didn't expect this to be good; but I was not expecting just how bad it would be.
First this isn't even a novel, it is a novella. It is 90 pages and written in at least 14 point font.
This is a badly written wanna be knockoff of 50 Shades or the like. It reads like an outline at best. The characters are not fleshed out. They are just clique cardboard inserts with no motivations, uniqueness or interest. The grammar is bad, the sentence structure is abysmal and the story is boring at best. Nothing is fleshed out or well thought out. When she didn't know how to finish a section she would just cut to three months later. The main character is a thinly veiled version of Trisha with the same daddy issues and lack of self awareness.

I knew this wouldn't be award winning quality but I just didn't expect it to be as bad as it was. I wouldn't even read another Trisha book as a joke after this time around!

This book is not for the faint of heart. As soon as you start reading it goes from 0 to 100 in the first few pages. The writing style isn’t perfect - but Trisha Paytas isn’t an official author. The book has very very dark and crazy content. I don’t want to give too much away, but if you are easily offended or triggered by things it may take you awhile to get over this book.

I'd say this is a better horror novel than it is erotica but frankly the pacing is so atrocious and the plot so nonsensical that I can't even say that for sure.

This book shouldn't exist and I don't know why it does.

Bizarre.

Interesting read, some controversial topics regarding rape. Overall a good read except the last two chapters were significantly rushed and a lot could’ve been done with it. Still a good entertaining read if you are bored and want something a little crazy to laugh at.

Five stars because I love Trisha and will support anything she does. This book however was not good and was a weird erotica book that deserves lots of triggers if you’re interested in reading

First half 3 stars anyway. Props on formatting 10x better than most indie books. Very clean cute ch headers like a boutique logo. Trisha-core opening when contemplating a stripper name: “I like Quickie because it reminds me of oatmeal.” MC Mary is indifferent about sex just wants cash and does okay w/ flirty men at the diner, but she wouldn’t mind more attention—especially if genuine. Her wanting to strip—at a place hilariously named Beaver’s Damn—is in part to upset her parents, make them question what a poor job they did.

Things are a little too dramatic physically with Mary practically collapsing when she gets fired from the restaurant or all the casual nakedness around her roommate, but at least it’s fast paced, people talk realistically w/ insults, and punchy when it comes to humor—though she keeps using the word quip wrong.

Some things need more explanation, like her throwing the coffee at the creeps—did it land, did they grab her? At the club, how does she go from shy to stage queen before she’s officially hired? All of a sudden there are so many nicknames I’m unsure how it lines up w/ how Preston seemed before. She reacted too much to guys staring at her in normal clothes but not at all to the super grabby boss.

I wish there was more about how self-conscious she felt just in pasties as the new girl. If she norm dresses kind of grunge, and maybe has the freshman 15 going on, shouldn’t there be more commentary on that? Things get really dark all of a sudden and not in that sexy a way. That’s a twist for ya, though the back of the book did warn about the dangers of SW. it’s nice that soon Mary can turn the situation around to think she should start taking what she wants from life like the perverted or mean men.

Omg, is “freshly popped boner” a gross phrase. The idea of tricking the bully BF is good but I hope she gets revenge on his worse GF and it’s unclear how she gets all that revenge loot. She should’ve said he left his keys and wallet in his pants in the room. The split personality of Priscilla to compartmentalism her trauma is good. But at the halfway point things change again too starkly with no real lead in. Plus, how are there no witnesses when there were a minute ago? Good idea but poorly executed without another few chs of padding. I get the diversion she’s going for but it just is too jarring to work.

I actually don’t like when the book gets sweet again because it feels unnatural. I mean, we’re dealing with two psychos but them not knowing they are makes it less fun, more annoyingly sappy. If the tone was kept dark and she saved the fairytale stuff for a different book w/ new characters, that would be the best of both worlds. At least the parents and Gwen are acting normal—plenty of these books would have had them magically charmed by her (mirror image) of a captor. The time jump is a little too much at the end, her personalities muddled.

At least this kept me on my toes and was written more than competently the first half. A quick session with a developmental editor could whip it into shape but I know Trisha is all about instant gratification. The last ten pages are absolutely ridiculous though, clearly less time was spent on them. Like WTH about the parents flip flopping? That all knocks my star rating to a 2 but I’m putting a 3 since most ratings are from people who don’t like the author personally and most modern romance and erotica is this OTT and people rave about it. The very last page is okay, back to dark comedy after splatterpunk I guess.

A genuinely, pretty awful book. It’s not written well at all. Several important things in the book that would make anyone stop and reread it to make sure they didn’t just imagine it, were, for some reason, simply glossed over. Nothing, and yet everything happens in just 90 pages. So much is written into the story, yet none of it is fleshed out. The book includes racist, homophobic, and illegal acts all just inserted into the story as if they were everyday things. Things change in the story so quickly that you get whiplash within just the flip of one page. All of this and yet, it’s still a pretty entertaining book. It’s most definitely a book that people have to experience and read in order fully understand the confusion and utter bewilderment of those who have read it.

Surprising

this might be trisha paytas niche. this was an awesome read! just like her other books it was hard to put down. I would say some of her life peeked through a bit with the stripping and desire for older men. overall it was a good read. the only thing I would say is that she added more detail to some parts. like she really could have extended Mary's imprisonment, some of the sex scenes and she could have given more history on her relationship with her parents and Gwen. the imprisonment scene also kind of reminded me of gone girl but sicker sadness detailed.
