Immortalis Boxed Set: A New Adult Urban Fantasy Vampire Series

Rate this book
Books in the Immortalis Becoming a vampire is easy. Living with the condition... that's the hard part. Join Alyssa as she stumbles through the world of the "Unnatural." Book 1: Immortalis Carpe Noctem - Newbie vampire Alyssa never asked for this life, but now it's all she has. Rescued from death by Lysander, the aloof and sexy leader of the Peregrinus vampire clan, she's barely cut her teeth before she becomes a target. Kallisto, an ancient and vindictive vampire queen - and Lysander's old mate - wants nothing less than final death for her former lover and his new toy. She's not above letting the Acta Sanctorum, and its greatest vampire hunter, Santino, know exactly where the clan can be found. With no time to mourn her old life, Alyssa's survival depends on her new family. She will have to stand alongside Lysander and fight against two enemies who will stop at nothing to destroy them. Book 2: Hunters & Prey - Rule number humans and vampires don't co-exist. One is the hunter and one is the prey. Simple, right? Not for newly-turned vampire Alyssa. A surprise confrontation with Santino Vitale, the Acta Sanctorum's most fearsome hunter, sends her fleeing back to the world she once knew, and Fallon, the human friend she's missed more than anything. Now she has some explaining to do. However, that will have to wait. With the Acta Sanctorum hot on their heels, staying alive is more important than educating a human on the finer points of bloodlust. Book 3: Pandora's Box - After a few months as a vampire, Alyssa thought she'd learned all she needed to know about the supernatural world. But her confidence is shattered by the delivery of a mysterious package - a Pandora's Box. Seemingly innocuous, the box is in reality an ancient prison, generated by a magic more powerful than anyone in her clan has ever known. But what manner of evil could need such force to contain it? Book 4: Soulstone - It's a desperate time for rookie vampire Alyssa, and her sanity is hanging by a slender thread. Her clan is still reeling from the monumental battle with Aniketos; a battle that claimed the body of Lysander, her sire and lover, and trapped his spirit in a mysterious crystal. A Soulstone. Unfortunately, no amount of magic has been able to release Lysander's spirit, and the stone is starting to fade. Weeks of effort have proved futile. Her clan, the Peregrinus, have all but given up hope. Only Alyssa still believes her lover can be released. Book 5: Moonlight Good girls don't wear fur, or fight over men, and they certainly don't run around naked, howling at the moon. But then, no-one ever called Fallon a good girl. As a human unofficially mated to an Alpha werewolf, Fallon is being pressured to "become"...or be gone. Her mate Aiden, the interim leader of the Olde Town Pack, is in a position that demands he either choose a wolf mate...or leave the pack forever. No matter how hot the sex with Fallon is, he can't ignore centuries of tradition. Become a wolf or not. If only the choice were that simple. Fallon's options are further clouded by the overt presence of other females desperate to be the Alpha's mate. And when these bitches get serious, it's not just claws that come out. If Fallon wants to keep her man and take the title she'll have to exert a little dominance of her own. Book 6: Dark Salvation A gathering storm of violence is on the horizon. Whispered threats of the Acta Sanctorum's return have the supernatural world abuzz. Only recently aware of the other world hidden behind our own, Kitara Vanders has barely scratched the surface of what being supernatural truly means.

Review for Carpe Noctem - 3 stars

I had a bit of a problem rating this because I really liked the premise and the writing, but the main character got on my nerves! She is very bratty, whiny, and very immature. She's in college, I think it was mentioned she's 25, but she acts like she is frigging 12 years old, so I had a hard time rooting for her. The story starts with Alyssa being attacked and nearly raped by 2 guys, but luckily Lysander saves her, but it is too late for her to go to the hospital, so because Lysander is a vampire, he turns Alyssa into a vampire. Alyssa proceeds to complain and bitch about being a vampire; just being all around annoying. I mean, if he didn't turn you, you would be dead! Stop being so rude! Lysander is aloof and stiff, but I suppose since he is such an old vampire, that's to be expected. There is romance in this book, but I don't really feel the heat yet. So, most of this book is about Alyssa learning about vampires and how to live as one, which I like vampires, so I liked that stuff, and we also get to know some other vampires, but I didn't really care for any of them. I feel like this is a set-up book, so I am really hoping that throughout the series, Alyssa grows as a person and becomes a bad-ass. I liked the action scenes, and I'm glad about what happened with Kallisto because I didn't want that to drag out. Despite not loving this, I feel like this series could really turn into something great, so I am looking forward to reading the next book!

Review for Hunters and Prey - 4 stars

I really love the visuals Katie Salidas creates with her writing; her descriptions were wonderful, and I really liked the flow of the book. I liked the first book in this series, but I didn't love it because the main character really annoyed me, and she continued to annoy me in this book, but I see some hope for her in this book! She makes some seriously damaging decisions in this book, that cause lots of problems for her friends. She doesn't think before acting, and although her intentions are good, her actions generally cause problems for herself and her group, so it is difficult to like her, but as I said, she is learning that she needs to think things through, so I liked her a bit more in this book. I loved all the action, and once the main plot started evolving I enjoyed a lot of the story. The romance definitely stepped up a notch in this book, and Lysander and Alyssa have some really sweet moments, and they definitely have a couple of spicy moments. In Hunters and Prey, Alyssa runs into some trouble, and ends up dragging her human friend, Fallon, into the vampire world, which is dangerous because a group of hunters is set on exterminating vampires, and a faction of these hunters has their sights set on Alyssa and her group of vamps. So, Alyssa needs to help rectify the trouble she caused by bringing Fallon into the vamp world, and she also has to deal with being hunted. I like that the book has a bit of gore, and that I can see the characters growing. I still wasn't love with the side characters; they all seemed rather dull, and I could have done without some of the scenes of Alyssa going feeding because it felt a bit repetitive to me. This book kept me interested and entertained till the end, so I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

Review for Pandora's Box - 4 stars

Alyssa didn't annoy me anymore! She is definitely a more conscious character in this book then she has been in the past 2 books! I like that she is more aware of the consequences her actions have, and tries to make an effort to think things through. I'm one of those readers that needs to be able to root for the main character and feel a connection with them, and in this book I felt like I could root for Alyssa more than I could in the past. I also really liked that there weren't as many feeding scenes, and I felt this book flowed the best out of the 3 I've read so far. I enjoyed the addition of werewolves in this book, and we also get a bit of some witchcraft, which was a nice element to the story. As the title suggests, this book's main storyline focuses on a Pandora's box, a mysterious package is delivered to Lysander's house, and when it is opened it unleashes a deadly entity. So, Alyssa, Lysander, Nicholas, and Fallon head to Boston to find out a way to return the entity to the box before it causes anymore problems. Along the way, the group meets some werewolves and some other vampires, so the group needs to negotiate the situation carefully with both groups. It was nice to have a change of setting, and to get to know some new characters. I love shifters, so I really loved getting to see some werewolves! I would have liked a bit more romance between Alyssa and Lysander because it would have been nice to see some more growth and closeness in their relationship. I'm definitely excited to read the next book in this series because this one left us with a mystery to be solved, and I'm excited to see where the story is going to go!

Review for Soulstone - 5 stars!

I'm really enjoying how this series has evolved! Alyssa has really come into her own, and I was in full support of her in this book. This book picks up right where the last book ended, so you will for sure need to read the previous books, and here's a warning that there will be spoilers for the previous book in this review!!!! Okay, so Lysander is trapped in the stone, so the gang is trying to find a way to free his soul back into his body. I love how Alyssa was determined not to give up and kept fighting when the others were less than supportive of her. The group does their best, but they end up in more trouble than they expected, and they have to go on a rescue mission of sorts, and they also have to deal with the Acta Sanctorum. I really enjoy that not only do we get vampires, but we get more of the wolves and witches too. There's a lot of action in this book, which I enjoyed, and I loved to see Alyssa kicking some butt! I loved all the spell work, and it was interesting to see groups band together that wouldn't normally work together to combat a common enemy. I would have liked more for the ending though, and I looked ahead in the series, and it looks like the next 2 books aren't told from Alyssa's POV, so I'm a bit disappointed in that, but I am really looking forward to reading more about Aiden and Fallon, to see what Fallon is going to do about being involved with a wolf, but I do hope that I get more closure with Alyssa. This book was entertaining and interesting! These characters have definitely grown on me, and I'm glad I continued on with the series! Looking forward to the next book!

Review for Moonlight - 5 stars!

I loved this! In Moonlight, we get Fallon's POV, and her struggles with her boyfriend Aiden's wolf pack. Fallon is unsure if she wants to become a werewolf, so she has been holding off on making the decision, but her time is up because Aiden's pack is pressing the issue, and doesn't want a human as their Alpha's mate. Aiden was really wonderful in this book, and there are some really great sexy times between Fallon and him. Fallon was a tough chick, and I loved her sass. I would have liked a bit more seriousness from her at times, but I still really liked her. I love all the wolf pack politics, well really, I loved all of the wolf stuff. I enjoyed reading about Fallon coming into her own, and finding her way with the pack. Fallon has to deal with some of the pack treating her poorly and finding out what is right for her, and I just loved how Aiden was there for Fallon. You don't necessarily need to read the other books in this series to enjoy this one, but Fallon and Aiden are in the previous books, and those books show a bit of Fallon and Aiden growing close, so that's nice to read. This was short, sweet, and awesome! Great addition to this series!

Review for Dark Salvation - 4 stars

I liked getting Nicholas story, and understanding him a bit better. Nicholas' mate was killed in one of the previous books, and he is still really hurting because of it, and Lysander wants to help Nicholas get past it and move on, so they go out for a night on the town. I just want to say that it has only been around 3 months or so since she was killed, so right off the bat, I'm thinking why are these people bothering him to get over it, so I wasn't happy with those turn of events, and it made Nicholas' relationship with his mate seem insignificant, so when Nicholas meets Kitara it's all a bit bittersweet for me. Kitara's boyfriend has joined the Saints, and has dumped Kitara, but she thinks he has been brainwashed, so she has come to Boston to find him and convince him to return home with her, which came across as very desperate to me, and some of the actions later in the book don't lead me to believe her feelings are deep enough for her to be so blind and devoted when it comes to her boyfriend. She ends up getting into some dangerous situations, and Nicholas ends up saving her. Kitara has a vague idea that there are other types of beings out there, but she is still pretty clueless; that's something I don't really like about this series, all of the females are sort of naïve and whiny, and make things worse a lot of the time, so I would have liked for there to be a strong female character that was capable and confident all on their own. Nicholas decides Kitara needs protecting, so he ends up letting her in on the knowledge about vampires, the Saints, and the rest of the supernatural world, but there is something about Kitara that isn't quite normal. Once I got past Kitara's desire to get her boyfriend back, I did like her and she does have some feisty to her that I enjoyed, and she handles things fairly well, and there is some chemistry between Nicholas and her. The sex scene is hot; except for Nicholas thinking he is out of practice even though it has only been 3 months! There's also some good action in this book, and it's well written; kept me entertained till the end. All in all, this is a good addition to the series, and if you liked the rest of the series, you should definitely read this book!
