She’s had one mission on the books in, well, too long. Keeping an eye on her neighbor and her daughter. Why? Simple, her bosses are trying to figure out just how to use them against the men that they selected for a unique and elite team. Penelope Morgan though isn’t the sort to just do as she’s told. And when the opportunity arises, she’s ready to kick some ass. But a low down, dirty handed move sends her career into a bit of a tailspin and right into their path.
As part of the new team, Knights of Ares, James Ashton and Dieter Alder-Faust know a thing or two about getting out of tight spots. Having the very sexy agent foisted on their team to be the eyes and ears of the upper echelon of military brass though is something no one saw coming. But both these men know there’s more than one way to skin a cat or, in this case, distract a sexy as sin agent and make sure she’s playing for the right team. Their team.
It’s not all smooth sailing though, not with back door dealings going on within the military that is supposed to have their backs. When a threat is revealed there’s only one thing to do. Eliminate it. If only James and Dieter had known about it, before their woman went and got herself shot.
Down but not out they will make her understand that she’s more to them than just a mouth piece attached to their unit by the military brass. She’s important to them, personally and one way or another they’ll show her just how important. Oh the things a man has to do to make the woman in his life understand her value. It’s a tough gig, but these men are more than ready to take on this challenge.
Unfortunately their plans will have to be put on hold when a very real and imminent threat reveals itself and heads straight for their throats. An attack on their home, with innocents inside, is just the kind of move that proves to this entire team who they can and can’t trust. Someone will be paying for the transgression, with blood.
Bullets are flying, deals are being made and love is in the air. But will true love truly triumph over the evil heading their way? Only one way to find out.
This book was just OK for me. I searched high and low for the first book in this series, so I wouldn't be lost. I even tried to contact the author without luck, so I trudged forward and I wished I hadn't. Since I hadn't read the first book, I was completely lost. There were tons of characters and I still have no idea what capabilities these men have and how they received their extra abilities. There's just vague mentioning of increased strength and possibly healing abilities.
Although there were some unanswered questions, I still enjoyed the story for the most part. Penny is sent to live with this special team as an informant for her boss, but she falls in love with two of the men - reallly fast. I'll just say that insta-love didn't work in this story. I wanted to know what made Penny fall in love with these men besides good sex. What drew them to Penny. Maybe there was something that went on between this trio in the first book that I missed, because there was no mention of any type of relationship in this book besides sex. Now that being said, the sex was hot, but I didn't believe these characters had any type of connection. Also, the dialogue was horrendous and editing was needed. A lot of the dialogue was pointless and I felt like the author forgot what she was writing about and just babbled. Dialoge should move the story forward and have a point to it. Literally, all of the dialogue revolved around sex, even at inappropriate times. There was a lot of filler going on and I skipped a lot. I would have liked to see more conflict between the "team" and the people who created them, since (I think) that was supposed to be the subplot. This story really didn't go anywhere.
Okay I can normally push past some horrible grammar and spelling mistakes, but this book was horrible. It is in serious need of an editor to fix this writing.
The story had potential to be good--government experiments and evil plots--but it was just executed poorly. The characters and situations weren't properly introduced or developed. I felt nothing for any of the characters. The storyline came in bits and pieces. Things would be introduced to seemingly make the next scene simply make sense. Even the love scenes were kind of blah.
It was a serious struggle to get through this book. I don't know how this was published but my recommendation is do not read it.
This book is in serious need of an editor and proof readers. The amount and nature of the errors kept pulling me out of the story. I usually don't complain about a typo here and there but this crossed a line. The problem is compounded by the quirk of a character who doesn't speak English natively and struggles with his metaphors. I had to constantly think about the word usages and there are plenty of problems here. The story isn't bad and I would consider reading others in the series but only if they have been edited and proof read!
3.5 Stars. While I loved the story and thought it rocked, I felt the story was incomplete. What happened with the people on the base? What happened with the doc? There was a nice Epilogue, but there are a lot of questions I'm left with that were unanswered and feel a little heartbroken that I'll never know what truly went down. If the questions were answered, I'd say this was a 5 star worthy book, but with them left up in the air, I'm being nice by rating 3.5 stars.
Expected more - had potential but just got way too flowery. These Alphas were just not badass enough for my liking. Way too gentle to be hard core military
I had to force myself to read this and even then I couldn't finish it. It was an okay plot but the writing was just bad. 90% of the time I didn't know where the timeline was and there was a lot of gaps in events and I was like "how'd we get here?" Honestly, I don't see myself reading anything willingly by this author ever again.
