I was sacrificed to save the world, and imprisoned with the very thing that sought to destroy it.
It wouldn’t be so bad, except the love of my afterlife is stuck here with me, and the monster in this cage has all of eternity to make us pay for shutting him down.
Even worse? Our only hope of escaping this torment rests with the vampire who set it loose to begin with.

I read this book because of all the cliffhangers in the last book of the series, also the series has not let me down so far, and i wasn't about to leave a good book unread. This book was already downloaded on my iPad too.
Plot Line: Landon and Charis' relationship has really grown on me and i really didn't know if it would work out. At first i thought Landon and rebecca would be together again, but Charis came into linden's life and they fell in love. When Landon and Charis were trapped in the box, their pain really caused me to want to stop reading, but keep reading at the same time to see if they could finally escape. The fact that Charis and Landon could only remember was if they stayed alive long enough upset me, like when the very first scene happened, Landon had no idea what was coming, but after a couple of scenes, (the gunman one0 they started to gain their memory, The gunman was "the Beast. i knew it was him, though it has taken a little while to realize. It seemed as if every time we played this game the memories returned faster." This told me the difficulty of being hunted, but not knowing by who until after trying to survive for as many hours as possible.
This book's significance is that it shows people not to take your loved ones for granted. Landon had to learn that the hard way by seeing Charis and his fake daughter die before him or be tourtured before him hundreds or thousands of times.
This was an excellent conclusion to this series of books; let's call it a closing of a chapter in the main character- Landon's- life. The story was very well done; the only draw back I've found is when you've read these books; once in a while a character, an important one no less, pops up and it's been such a while since you last read about them that you have to think back to who that character was and what role they played in the story so that you could make sense of what was happening. It was interesting though how the author made this story into a sort of supernatural "spy" book. By that I mean, there were characters you thought you could trust, only to have them betray the good guys constantly and some of the "bad" guys ended up being more trustworthy than the good ones which added depth to the books but also made it a tad confusing at times. I wasn't too t hrilled with the ending that was chosen but stories have to end somehow and no ending is "perfect" no matter how it is written so I won't let that take away from the quality of the entire series.
The 4th book in this series ( now up to 7?) wraps the story arc of the first three. Tying up the plot and laying the groundwork for an ongoing universe vie for attention in this meh offering. The writing continues the author's entertaining style. The existential universe and main character's angst threatens the 'balance' (apologies to anyone reading this) needed to root for the hero.
My rating and recommendations have not changed from book one through to the end of book four. Great character development. Thought provoking premises. Not necessarily good for everyone but you have to determine that for yourselves. As for me, I am ready for book five.
Maybe I should try another of M. R. Force's series while I assimilate what this one suggested. If you do read this, keep an open mind.
Everything has changed, shifted, and rearranged itself. Will the balance now settle into being and life move forward? Or will be power players move in to skew the balance yet again? And who will retire what must be for the universe to continue existence?
I thought it was a decent read though I personally liked the first 3 books better. Can't quite put my finger on why I feel this way but it may have to do with the fact that this one just seemed much slower paced than the others.
All of the twists and turns and plots...it was hard to see where it was all going but in the end, it all came together. My favorite in the series so far.
Start at Book 1 and give it a chance. That first book is the weakest but the concepts are great. The writing improves dramatically after then- not that it was bad, just moderately decent. I expect great for a five star rating, and book 4 delivers. Good versus evil, angels and demons, ghosts and spirits. The series has them all and with a flawed protagonist that you cannot help but admire. The series has gradually become more about life, than just a fabulous adventure. A mark of a truly great series.
Another great instalment. Not as fast paced as the previous book but still a well written and enjoyable just the same. It did feel like the end of the series though at the end, what with the character wrap ups in the epilogue sand so it will be interesting to see where the next and last book takes us. Could it be a step to far? Time will tell.
As I've previously said, a great series, especially when taken as a light read in between heavier epic fantasy series.
very pleasantly surprised after being sadly disappointed over the first three books. however, wrapped up the beast conflict nicely. still not a re-read but I enjoy the character development and plot actually kept me adequately entertained. the back and forth of point of view was annoying but I understand the "why". was a good free read.
I enjoyed the conclusion of The Beast storyline. I did find parts of it to be sad but I guess everything can't always be sunshine & rainbows...especially when good and evil are involved. I think I'll read more books from this world.
This series is full of action and adventure. You definitely want to start at book one. M. R. Forbes looks at our concepts of good, evil, and most importantly...balance. Don't expect a deep look...that's on you. But, he does get you thinking.
