Quick summary
In the first two books of this trilogy, Jaymee Ballard and Nick Samuels began their relationship, as did Dani Evans and Cage Foster. And, the four of them created a new friendship with each other in the midst of life or death circumstances. Just when everyone thought that their lives were finally settling into some level of normalcy, Nick turns up missing in the middle of a sudden derecho as he was returning to Roselea unexpectedly. As Cage, newly promoted to an investigator within the department, proceeds with other law enforcement to find him while trying to control his two amateur detectives (Jaymee and Dani).

The mystery
This was a really interesting puzzler, told alternatively from each of their points of view, including Nick's who provided some critical clues that helped me identify who had taken him. Even with that information, I was completely in the dark as to why and that's what made the story so intriguing. And, there still were a couple of twists waiting for me near the end. It was a whodunit dream, piecing together clues, motives and suspects.

The romance
The only romantic angle was what had already been created in the earlier books but it was the driver behind Jaymee's urgency and zeal in doing everything she could to help find Nick. Both of them re-examined their relationship during the ordeal, developing a new commitment. At times it was almost heartbreaking to be "listening in."

The bottom line
This was a fitting conclusion to a truly enjoyable trilogy. Secondary characters were leveraged extremely well to create more tension and intrigue. I'll miss this series as it was well written and executed with colorful characters having tons of flaws and likability. This book doesn't standalone, though, as events in the earlier stories are essential to know but not detailed here.

An ominous storm looms, threatening to overtake the small delta town of Roselea, Mississippi. Ashes and Bone, the final book in Stacy Green’s Delta Crossroads trilogy, is the most danger-fraught, suspenseful of the three. Jaymee Ballard’s boyfriend, reporter Nick Samuels, is caught in the middle of it somewhere out on the highway. He is on his way to Roselea to follow up on an investigation for a story – oh, and by the way, he wants to spend time with Jaymee too.

As the delrecho finally winds down, Nick doesn’t answer his phone, and detective Cage Foster discovers the car damaged and abandoned. That’s not all. Nick’s disappearance opens a Pandora’s box of long-hidden mysteries and lies. Not one to sit idly by, Jaymee and her best friend Dani, begin poking around as well. What happened to Nick? Is he even alive? Jaymee is sure that whatever happened to Nick has something to do with a story, but what was he working on? Whatever it was, it got him into trouble. Someone will go to great lengths to keep the secret buried.

Suspects emerge. Wealthy, powerful men with connections. Can Cage and his boss Gina put the pieces together in time to find Nick? What about Jaymee and Dani? Can they stay free from harm?

This was a jaw-clenching, adrenaline rushing, head-scratching thriller. Until the closing chapters, I had only a hint of who actually might be behind Nick’s disappearance. There are multiple layers and many players in this plot. It is helpful to know the characters from the earlier books and the part they played in those stories, because those things do figure in this tale as well. There is little romance compared to the previous two books, and there is not much of the grandeur of the antebellum homes either. What we do get instead is wind, heat, fire, ash, bones, and murder – and a darn fine mystery.

Stacy Green knows how to tell a story. She puts together a cast of likable characters whom we can’t help but root for despite their faults. She weaves her plot using the history of the area and the propensities of human nature, with a touch of moral conscience thrown in. I enjoy her writing so much, and this book, in particular, was truly exciting to read. Thank you, Stacy Green, for a tremendous trilogy!

As Jaymee Ballard was struggling to open the door of an old robe in her upstairs bedroom, she was also worrying about the upcoming opening of Magnolia House in two weeks’ time. She had decided to include Magnolia House in the Roselea Heritage Tour of Historic Homes when the tourist season started – but now she was wondering just why she had come to that particular decision. Her dog Mutt, on her bed once again, witnessed the door flying open and Jaymee almost landing on the floor – a box with what looked like dirty old artifacts had been caught in the door…

Suddenly the winds which had been getting stronger began howling around the old house. When Jaymee raced downstairs in answer to the door, she found her best friend Dani Evans there, frantic about the upcoming storm. A derecho was headed their way; the danger from one of these storms was such that everyone had to immediately take shelter. But Nick Samuels, Jaymee’s boyfriend, was on his way from the city; she had spoken to him on the phone a short while ago. He would be in the path of the vicious winds.

After the storm, in which the two girls had sheltered in the basement, the damage was everywhere. Luckily Magnolia House had suffered minimal damage – some smashed windows, a couple of trees down – nothing which couldn’t be repaired. Dani hoped her home, Ironwood, had been as lucky. But Jaymee couldn’t raise Nick on his cell phone. The two girls headed out in Dani’s truck, frantically driving the route Nick would have been on. And not far out of town they came across his car, abandoned but obviously damaged. Jaymee was frantic – Dani called Cage Foster, her boyfriend and a detective with the Adams County Police force, and he and his partner Gina arrived on the scene to begin the search.

With the police department stretched to the limit because of the storm emergencies, and now Nick missing, and it looking more and more like he hadn’t left his vehicle voluntarily, Cage called in the Crime Scene Investigators. Jaymee and Dani were told to go home, let the police do their work, but they decided to do some amateur sleuthing themselves - Cage would be angry, but he’d get over it!

Knowing Nick was an investigative reporter, and also knowing a little about what he’d been following up on, Jaymee was able to work out that Nick was investigating fake Civil War artifacts – as Dani was a historical preservation specialist with the Adams County Historical Foundation, together they made a good team. But would they be able to work out where Nick was? And was he still alive? Jaymee was holding together by a thread, but they had to keep moving, the dangers were too great.

This is the third and final instalment of the Delta Crossroads Trilogy, following on from Tin God #1, and Skeleton's Key #2. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the suspense and tension was rippling through the complete story from start to finish. The characters are great, with Jaymee being an extremely strong personality and Dani showing a softer side, with strength there when it was needed. There are quite a number of characters in the book, but it’s easy to keep up with them, with no confusion about who’s who. The story is told in the voices of the four main characters, Jaymee, Nick, Dani and Cage, with their names at the beginning of the chapters. Very easy to keep up, the continual flow was effortless. This trilogy has been enjoyable from the beginning, and I have no hesitation in recommending it highly.

With thanks to the author for my copy to read and review.

Jaymee Ballard, the practical cleaner of homes, had a settled life in her old antebellum plantation house, when a ferocious derecho hits her town, Rosalea, Mississippi. Her boyfriend, Nick Samuels, was on his way to her and just vanished from the face of the earth, leaving his car abandoned next to the road.

Nick had an urgent matter he wanted to discuss with her and left a vital clue in his car. But the storm not only damaged some of the old historical homes destined for inclusion in the upcoming Roselea Heritage Tour, it also ripped open another few skeletons in the old closets. Once again, the ghosts of the old homes started fiddling in the dark, desperate to have their stories told.

Detective Cage Foster, and his girlfriend Dani Evans, had no other choice but to be directly involved in the events following the disappearance of Nick, who they suspected, got a whiff of a scandalous murder many years ago in the their town. Not only did the antiquities told a story of fraudulent Civil War memorabilia, and of people disappearing, but enough old inhabitants knew about the events to get nervous and creative in protecting their own secrets and interests. To top it all off, there were influential, wealthy moguls sneaking around town looking for opportunities to enrich themselves further and cheat the inhabitants out of their land and inheritance. Bottom line was, not many people could be trusted, no matter their breeding and impressive bloodlines!

This is the third and final book in the Delta Crossroads series and let me tell you, it ends with a bang! A big earth-shattering shake which had more than just a few people shook up!

Like the previous two books, this one is fast-moving, entertaining, riveting and suspenseful. Never a dull moment with enough action to fill up more than a few nervous nights with jittery movements and rattling teeth!

I would suggest that all three books should be considered for a read though. Since I waited so long for this one, I had to go back to the previous two books to catch up on the story line, since little of it is repeated in this book. For this reason I won't recommend it as a stand-alone.

However, I was looking forward to this book, very much so. The previous two books in the series were really a treat filled with mystery, murder, suspense, drama and southern history, and this one did not disappoint. It was really worth the wait.

The story is so well told, an effortless, relaxing experience with characters that became familiar and endearing. It is really sad to say goodbye to them. But goodness, do not get fooled, this was a horror-lite whodunit that will forever spook the living daylights out of the memory. And in my book, this guarantee the winner status of the tale.

Well executed plot, masterful prose, totally believable, floored but lovable characters. Just a great read for a lazy Sunday afternoon. I recommend it to all murder-mystery lovers who enjoy the female touch in writing. What I really appreciate is the absence of excessive violence.

I opened the pages of Ashes and Bone (Delta Crossroads #3) and was immediately transported back to the small Mississippi delta town of Roselea. Back to visit with old friends, Jaymee, Cage, Dani and Nick as they are thrown into another mystery. A mystery created by the secrets held within Roselea's past. Secrets that turn out to be deadly.
The absolutely amazing story telling ability and writing skills of Stacy Green makes these books come alive and grab hold of you, pulling you in and inserting you into the lives of these characters and the small town where they live!

Stacy Green has done it again. Drawn me in to the 3rd book in her Delta Crossroads Trilogy. The story kept your interest from the first. Her characters were very believable & mostly likable. The romantic suspense is just what I love to read & this had it all. I recommend this book, in fact all 3 books, wholeheartedly.

I LOVED this whole series. It kept me guessing the whole time. From reading her other two books I knew it was probably gonna be "What the???" when you find out who done it, so I kept having my ideas and each time I was wrong. Loved the characters and well just the whole story line!

Stacy Green takes us back to the small tourist town of Roselea, Mississippi for another story filled with suspense and drama. Her writing style is fluid and descriptive as she manages to keep the reader anticipating the conclusion which is absolutely unexpected.

Jaymee’s boyfriend, and investigative reporter Nick is on his way back to Roselea when a derecho storm hits and he has a car accident. The problem is that his car is found, but he is missing. He was in the process of breaking a big story that would compromise the people and history of the town. Frantically Cage, Jaymee, and Dani try to put the clues of his disappearance together and find him before it’s too late. The town is turned upside down by the secrets that are revealed and lives are forever altered.

All the characters in the story are so well developed and their interactions so intricate and believable that they and lend to the realism and suspenseful quality of the story. This is the final story in the Delta Crossroads Trilogy and I found all of the books to be imaginative and gripping. I also appreciated the mix of history interwoven in the series with just the right mix of drama and strong character presence.

I found Ashes and Bone to be an excellent complement and ending to this trilogy. The writing is strong and purposeful and the characters are very complex and compelling. I highly recommend this book and the entire trilogy as I have thoroughly enjoyed it!

Stacy Green has a talent for transporting the reader into the setting of the story, where you feel like you're in the deep south in the midst of a mystery where lives hang in the balance.

Ashes & Bone is the exciting finale of the Delta Crossroads series. I really enjoyed getting to hear the story from the perspective of all of the main characters of the previous novels: Dani, Cage, Jaymee & Nick.

In Ashes & Bone, a secretive story Nick is working on may be the reason behind his mysterious disappearance. What project was he last engaged in? Who has something to lose if the story comes out? In this quiet town where everyone knows their neighbors secrets, someone has a secret to hide that might just be worth killing for.

Can Cage and the police force unravel the cryptic information found in Nick's car? Will Dani and Jamie get themselves in over their heads trying to figure out the puzzle in time to save Nick's life? Is the secret that is being hidden enough to bring down the whole town? Is the dangerous southern Dixie Mafia involved? Who will live until the end of the novel?

A great novel and adventure for readers who love a good mystery!

The third and final (awwwwww) book in the Delta Crossroads mystery series, after Tin God and Skeleton's Key, is a humdinger with a kidnapping, an apparent suicide, and a sinkhole.

A gungho journalist is hot on a lead to something really big in Rosalea, Mississippi, involving a former state senator and the usual complement of rich folks. Looks like it concerns the faking of Civil War memorabilia. It's a big business, but is it big enough to involve the Dixia Mafia? Fakery is a big industry, evidently.

We also have the rushing through of a foreclosure of the first free black-owned property in the area, and then the unseemly rushing through of some zoning changes that would allow said property zoned for condos and resort activities.

Follow the money. I'm telling you, it's always the money. Ka-ching. Ka-ching.

Another really good mystery, and with Mz. Green's signature ending of a perp coming from out in left field, leaving our jaws once again dragging on the red clay of Mississippi.

I read very few series because I'm always wanting something different to read. However, this is one series that I always waited on the next book with great anticipation. The third and last book did NOT disappoint. I love the way the author brings history into the mystery. And the characters...they are so real while you're reading. This is a book that I actually would think about during the day when I wasn't reading it, and that's rare for me. This is probably my favorite of the trilogy. My only disappointment is that there aren't any more. But I'm ready to read whatever Stacy Green comes up with next!

This is the third book in the Delta Crossroads Trilogy. I read the first two and really enjoyed them. This one was a disappointment. I found one of the main characters, Jayme, such an irritating whiner, I almost stopped reading the book. The other two main characters, Cage and Dani are likeable and that's the only thing that kept me reading. The story was rather unbelievable in parts and I found it a stretch to accept some of what occurs in the story. However, in spite of my disappointment, Stacy Green on the whole is a good writer and I think this was an exception to otherwise really good books.

A Satisfyingly Southern Ending

Other than figuring out the kidnapper midway through, I really enjoyed this last installment of the series. I got to see my favorite characters resolve issues, spend some more time with what felt like my own southern friends and be immersed in the richly historical and charming setting of the south that I miss terribly, being originally from TN but now living southwest for 12 years. There are some spelling and grammar issues which could be fixed with another quick edit. In all, this ending to the series was intriguing and satisfying.

A Good Read for Any Southerner

I live in Mississippi, about 50 miles east of Natchez, so I am very familiar with the southern mindset and way of life. Growing up as I did in way southern Louisiana, I can say without a doubt this series truly nails that state of mind. The only thing I disagreed with was the ease with which the Yankee was accepted into the fold. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed all three books.

Readers should start with Tin God and read them in order as the characters evolve with each book. I will definitely read other books by her.

Cage & Dani, Nick and Jaymee

In this last book of Delta Crossroads trilogy combines the main characters from the first two books along with some new ones both good and bad.
Nick disappears coming into Rosales during a major storm. Dani and Maumee finds his car but not him. Maumee is so upset she can't think straight but she won't give up looking.
The Dixie Mafia is trying to move into town selling fake civil war memorabilia. Digging out the people who are part of the scheme.
Another great story with a surprise ending.

Excellent end to o series

Really enjoyed this small town History/mystery set in the Mississippi historical section near Natchez. This story touches on a crime from the Civil Rights era and includes discussion of race issues that are accurate but strike an incongruent note with 2020’s views.

This was, truthfully, a bit of a let down for me. I thought the 1st and 2nd books in this series were entertaining and unique, but I really couldn't get into the story for this one. I found it to be a bit all over the place, a lot of info dumping instead of actual action, and it felt like there was very little character development. Definitely not my favorite of the trilogy.

A continuation of a previous story. This one caused me to speed read to get through the emotional ramblings of many of the characters to discover the facts of the mystery. I don’t think I could read another in this series even though I like the character and history of the south.

I read all three in this Trilogy and enjoyed them very much. My only disappointment was in the last book, Ashes and Bone, there was too much of taking the Lord's name in vain. None of that is necessary to the story.

Constantly moving and I couldn't put it down!

This was an awesome end to the trilogy. I so enjoyed seeing it all work together and could see where, with cage becoming inspector, that she will be able to carry on the story through him and the cases he has coming to him!

I accidentally purchased this sequel to Skeleton's Key by pushing the wrong button on my Kindle app, but I'm glad I did. I liked it better because it spent less time on "Yankees and Southerns have cultural differences!" and "It's hot in the South if you're not from there, and sometimes even if you are!" and more on the actual plot. With the characters and their relationships already established, we moved into the story much more quickly and spent less time on explanations and backstory.

The majority of the plot I thought was good, was original. Counterfeit CSA relics! Dixie Mafia! Kidnapping! It all ties together with the last book! Or does it? Maybe! There was a lot going on, but it all moved together in a way that felt very organic.

Until I realized where they were going in the end (which I did about 20 pages before the "big reveal"), and then I was sincerely disappointed with how it was all getting tied up. Honestly, how many times can the final villain be the one that nobody saw coming? "Not him, it can't be him!" So in this book we had bad guys who were both The Most Obvious and The Least Obvious (The Butler Did It), and I'm taking points off for both.

I did enjoy the read, up to the very end, and then I was so annoyed that I took a star off.

Wow....just wow. People don't like change never have and never will.... some people are brought up believing there is a 'fundamental difference behind skin color.' Secrets never have happy endings.
