I rated it this one a star lower than the first two comics because besides from a little action in the beginning, nothing happened.

I think this was my favorite so far, things are starting to make more sense, and get more intense. The trio of Killmonger, Storm, and Tchalla should be fun. The reveal at the end is a great cliffhanger.

Setup Issue - Not much action

I am generally enjoying the series. The story is captivating and the art is spectacular. Hill is doing a great job at setting up Wakanda's story about how they plan to deal with Moon Knight.

What keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the lack of action . When i think of a Black Panther comic (or any comic for that matter) I expect some butt kicking. So far that has been lacking and this issue was dialogue heavy with no action. So far we're 3 issues in and all we've gotten is a small scuffle with Shuri and Okoye. T'Challa has yet to do anything and for him to be titular character, he hasn't exactly driven the story. I don't mind world building, its a necessary ingredient to telling a compelling story. However, we are reading a superhero comic, action should go hand in hand with that world building.

Bryan Hill is creating something truly special w/ this series and issue #3 is no different. I am completely enthralled w/ Hill’s character-driven focus, as he’s takes his time building a rich & immersive world for T’Challa, even if it means sacrificing action & long-term plot development in the short term. We’ve yet to revisit some of the plot threads introduced in the first issue, but I’ve hardly felt unfulfilled because of all the amazing character work we’re getting instead.

Hill’s development of Killmonger here is particularly noteworthy, as he adds subtle twists Erik’s worldviews & motivations without betraying the spirit of Killmonger of Earth-616. We also get to see more development from Shuri & Okoye as they literally go toe-to-toe in a tense power struggle while T’Challa is MIA from Wakanda. There are A LOT of seeds being planted for Shuri & these small bites are paced perfectly to keep you hooked.

But Hill’s writing is only half the equation — Stefano Casseli’s art is simply breathtaking. The environments are stunning & the character designs are regal. The new looks for Killmonger & Storm look gorgeous. It’s a really awesome homage to their African roots without leaning in too far where it edges on patronizing. David Curiel’s colors & Cory Petit’s lettering are the cherry on the sundae to make this an all-around visual treat.

What’s most impressive about Black Panther #3 is its willingness to take its time, to let the characters breathe & grow. Hill is playing the long game, and I’m more than happy to be along for the ride. If this means quieter moments now, I’ll wait for the flashier, more action-packed ones which are sure to come in the future.

The art is great and I'm very intrigued by how Storm has been portrayed thus far. But, there are too many parallels to Dune, which I know inspired Hill's writing here, that the book feels to be lacking in freshness, especially after Dune: Part Two was released at the time of this book's printing. There's going to need to be some big twists coming soon to keep me on board. Hopefully, this issue's cliffhanger leads in that direction.

I really like this book so far and this issue is no exception. The Ultimate Universe building here is pretty exciting, and this book has the added bonus of getting to add more political intrigue/drama by having moving pieces of royalty in the background. The discussion between Killmonger and T'Challa on what best way to serve your people are interesting, and I look forward to seeing how these characters develop.

Best issue so far. The fireside chat between T'challa and Kilmonger stole the show.

Kilmonger-I am a son of Wakanda. A prodigal son, as the Christians say. But I have little interest in returning.

T'challa-Why?

Kilmonger-I got tired of sleeping in paradise while people who looked like me suffered in the world beyond it.........and I got tired of being told I should be proud to do so.

I didn't think I was going to check this one out, due to how lazy I felt the first two issues were. This is a big improvement. While there still isn't very much depth to the lore on display in this run, the story is moving forward at a better pace here.

Enjoyed the cultural exchange between one who grew up within and one who grew up outside (avoiding spoilers). Also liked the world-building and the exploration of their environment like treasure hunters.

Artistically I'm all for it, the visceral action plottiness and look of the book keeping me more invested than the story - sure I am curious about how it fits in with the whole Ultimate event, but so far it's been feeling like lots of delay and setup, worrying me about direction.

Another building block issue. Kill monger and storm being allies to show the Black panther the truth is an interesting angle. Let's see where it goes.

El sentimiento que tuve al ver a Storm fue algo que no podré describir, una mutante, LA mutante, siento que ocupó todo lo que haya tratado este volumen.

A more slower paced issue but still intriguing. I’m really digging this new design and approach to Killmonger and Storm, I just hope the pay off with both is fulfilling at some point rather than having them relegated to the background.

I’m loving how this series started off slow but the deeper you go into the mythos the more you get into it, the changes are also spectacular. Having Moon Knight as the villain is such an interesting take, now in this one you have Killmonger and Storm as good guys, it’s crazy and I love it.

You can tell that Killmonger is heavily inspired by his movie version, through you can tell there is a bit more to him which I’m grateful for as we had that version already as much as I enjoyed it, it’s nice to have a different take. We only find out a bit about him and Storm in this, aside from they don’t trust anyone there isn’t anything else happening besides talking.
