From Acer Adamson comes another sexy, heartwarming yarn in the Max & Skyler series! During a retirement party for Max’s current police partner, a fellow detective plants an idea in Max’s head that our hero just can’t shake. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, Max is scrambling to come up with the perfect token to accompany the question he thought he would never get to ask. Skyler, in his usual fashion, isn’t making Max’s pursuit any easier. __________ Nothing Ventured (Max & Skyler 4) is a 9,700-word gay romance of the feel-good variety. The Max & Skyler short stories by Acer Adamson are meant to be read in the following 1. Only Words (Max & Skyler 1) 2. Any Excuse (Max & Skyler 2) 3. Every Minute (Max & Skyler 3) 4. Nothing Ventured (Max & Skyler 4)
Acer Adamson writes stories that strike his fancy, some sweet and hot while others are taboo and racy. When not wearing this top-secret disguise, Acer is really author Jaye Valentine.
I love this series, I really do, but dagnabit, does it always have to be such a short tease of a story? I have enjoyed watching Max and Skyler's relationship develop over the last three books. Skyler has certainly gotten Max moving in the right direction. He's even got the flannel button-up PJs and he's not afraid to use them! Lol Cute short and I'm hoping for more and maybe a longer one next time.
Another Max and Sky story - I love this couple! Max is still trying his hardest (!) to do the right thing - his heart is in the right place but the execution still leaves a bit to be desired. Still not sure if he got it right but it was a fun story. Sky didn't come over as strong as in the other books this time - maybe because their relationship has strengthened and he doesnt need to be. Loved his jammies though!
7.2.18 reread : Sky still in charge, and still educating Max but he is getting better. Just yummy!!!
4.8.19 reread : lovely round up to the end of Max and Skyler - would love more but this does leave us at a happy place, with Max still learning!!
25.10.20 reread : the gooey icing on the cake in this quartet of short stories. All is in accord, love the vision of Skyler in his combination Pjs and Max gets it right in the end.
Ahhh! I want more of these two. So sad to get to the end of Max and Skyler's journey but I'm so glad they got their HEA! Perfect quickie series. Read the last installment on my way to work and it was an excellent way to start my day.
My favorite installment in the Max and Skyler series

Rating: 8/10
PROS: - I love how most everyone behaves as though there’s nothing at all unusual about Max being in love with a man rather than a woman. They’re maybe not all 100% accepting, but they’re as accepting as they know how to be. - Skyler is a unique and wonderfully endearing character. He holds his ground when Max does stupid things without thinking, but he somehow manages to be sweet about it.
CONS: - If you haven’t read the earlier stories in the series, there’s not a lot here to fill you in on the characters’ backstory. - The ending felt a tad rushed to me.
Overall comments: This is a quick, light read with almost no angst. And any story that contains the phrase “chastity jammies” is worth a look.
I love, love, love this couple. And I continue to love this series. I would love a full length novel with the two of them instead of the little snippets we get. But I will take whatever I can get, I can always read about Max and Skyler!
Loved, loved it! Sexy Max and beautiful Skyler... I love them and their story. Could read about them for pages and pages. Highly recommend (the whole series) :)
