I might use it to get ideas about what to cook, but I'd end up following my own knowledge of better quality ingredients and more flavorful or authentic seasonings. A good book if you don't mind cutting the corners off non-American cuisine and typically rely on box mixes, pre-made doughs, spice blends, and bottled sauces.

The 101 Things to Do Cookbook Series makes a great gift for the beginning cook. Each one contains quick, easy and impressive dishes to make. Great step by step instructions, which is very helpful because there are no pictures. At the beginning are helpful hints, which is almost the best part of the cookbook.

Do you have a pound of ground beef in fridge and don't know what to do with it? Then this is your book !

A great super simple recipe book for the busy person. It gives you basic ideas on recipes, and would be very easy to add your own "flare" to any recipe in this book, to make it "yours"
