A mystery. Solved. But Unsolved. Satyanweshi Byomkesh Bakshi is handed the onus of solving the upcoming murder mystery of a rich-spoiled heir of 'Suchitra Emporium' infamously known as Satyakam Chowdhury by the man himself. As Byomkesh goes about searching for an answer amidst various cues, he discovers how Satyakam's promiscuity and the societal loathe that had been bestowed upon him for the same, the unhappy marital life of his parents and what money could do to immature minds. The climax that brings forth Byomkesh's humanity, above all, is the best gift from this novel.
#Goodreads Satyakam was known for his FLAMBOYANT lifestyle. Due to his DISPOSITION, his reputation in society had PLUMMETED significantly. He was DELINQUENT—a womanizer who had TARNISHED the lives of many women. The community was LIVID with him, deeply concerned for their daughters and sisters, and had even attempted to beat him.
Satyakam predicted his own murder and sought Byomkesh’s help, asking him to investigate when it inevitably happened. He was part owner of Suchitra Emporium along with his father, Umapati Das.
As Satyakam had SURMISED, he was killed at the front door of his house. The bullet entered through his back and got lodged in his ribcage. At the murder scene, Byomkesh observed a silver paper stuck to the floor.
Byomkesh soon learned that Satyakam had left him a "gift" that could be obtained from the manager of Suchitra Emporium. It was a gift card with a poem written on it, COMMEMORATING Umapati and his wife’s wedding. Everything became clear to Byomkesh. When he confronted Umapati about it, Umapati confessed everything.
Byomkesh explained the situation to Ajit and Satya. Ramakant Chowdhury had started Suchitra Emporium, and with his keen business ACUMEN, it had quickly grown into one of the most popular shops in Kolkata.
Umapati, an orphaned young man with no wealth, joined the shop as an employee. He worked hard, showing intelligence and dedication, which caught Mr. Chowdhury’s attention. Eventually, Chowdhury proposed that Umapati marry his only daughter. At first, Umapati was shocked, but he eventually agreed to the proposal. However, on the first night of his marriage, Umapati discovered the dark secret behind Chowdhury’s decision—his new wife was pregnant.
When Umapati confronted Chowdhury about this, Chowdhury offered him a 50% partnership in the shop as compensation. It was an offer Umapati couldn’t refuse. Soon after, Chowdhury left for abroad with his daughter and returned with her newborn son, Satyakam.
There was never a real relationship between Umapati and his wife. She had withdrawn from life as a form of ATONEMENT for her sin. Despite this, Umapati had LONGED to be closer to her.
Satyakam, having learned the secret, made their lives unbearable. He was INCORRIGIBLE. Umapati silently ENDURED his wife’s misery, his wife believing it to be her PENANCE. But eventually, he could no longer bear it. He realized that Satyakam was the source of all the sorrow in their lives and decided that he must be ERADICATED.
Though Satyakam was morally corrupt, he had a PREMONITION of his death. He left Byomkesh the "gift" that mentioned Umapati’s wedding date, knowing that Byomkesh had already been told Satyakam’s date of birth.
On the night of his murder, Satyakam came home intoxicated. As he approached the house, he saw something glowing in the dark and bent down to investigate. At that moment, Umapati shot him from the second floor.
Byomkesh did not turn Umapati over to the police, understanding that he wanted to start a new life with his wife.

খুন করেও ন্যায়ধর্ম রক্ষা as to be concluded.. all these are those vital points that I want you to focus on while you are reading. Another spectacle work by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay that I wish you to go for.
"Gene does matter" And it can matter so much that it can lead to a murder. A 21 years old boy named 'Satyakam' came to Byomkesh to solve his murder case in future. He had a reputation of having physical affairs with a lot of girls and so there was several persons who could be suspected as his murderer. One day he was murdered as the boy said and as Byomkesh solves the mystery of his murder.Byomkesh found out that the biggest reason of Satyakam's murder was his genes which is in Bengali- রক্তের দাগ।
In short,it was a small murder mystery with no extra drama and all.The way the case lead to the end with just a birth date was unpredictable and at the same time enjoyable. I liked it. Happy reading ✨
