The Journey
As one reviewer said, "5-Stars: Great book about a horrifying experience."
Katy is desperate to get away from a controlling, abusive, and terrifying man who hurts her in the most savage ways. He was once a kind, thoughtful lover. Now, he has her paralyzed with fear from his ruthless and revolting behavior. She can't think straight, but she's sick and tired of being beaten down. She knows she has to escape - but his threats make her feel vulnerable and trapped. Is there no way out? Read one woman's nightmarish journey as she closely listens to the guidance of her inner voice in this tale of survival. (Some content may not be suitable for everyone.)

Award-winning author, Chariss K. Walker, M.Msc., Reiki Master/Teacher, writes both fiction and nonfiction books with a metaphysical and spiritual component. Her fiction expresses a visionary/metaphysical message that illustrates growth in a character's consciousness while utilizing a paranormal aspect. Her nonfiction books share insight, hope, and inspiration.
Those who search for meaning and the supernatural in themselves will enjoy her books.
Even though Chariss also writes dark-fiction about insanely dark topics, such as sexual abuse, incest, pedophilia, sexual assault, and other inappropriate dinner conversation, there is always an essential question of the abstract nature that gives a reader increasing awareness and perception.
If you are looking for an author who speaks your language or vernacular then you might like to know that I was born in Arkansas, grew up in the Mississippi Delta as a farmer's daughter. Sad Thriller
4 1/2 Stars
"The Journey" is a powerful book about the abuse of women and the impact it has on the woman's life
It is fast paced and very hard to put down. I finished it in one sitting.
I recommend.

I can not say enough about this book--it is heartbreaking and heart warming at the same time.
Katy has had trouble in her life but always had her parents to back her up. Her husband died while in the service before she had their daughter. She tended not to socialize except with her parents and daughter. Her parents were killed in an auto accident but left Katy with enough so that she would not have to worry. Then one day a man decided to try to get her attention--she resisted--but ultimately gave in. He was everything she wanted in a man--or so she thought--until he moved her from her Florida home to North Carolina----
This is the story of bravery in the face of extreme adversity--of finally listening to her inner voice and living the life she wanted for herself and her daughter!

This book takes you through a woman's journey from a comfortable life with her daughter and her parents after the death of her husband to a nightmare existence with a brutal conman who wooed her with lies and pretend good character. Follow her as she wades through the confusion and fear her bad choices have caused her and comes to grip with the danger she and her daughter are in. Protecting her daughter is her first concern. Great story!

The Journey
This book could have been my life during my first marriage! Only difference was I didn't have a child!! I was physically abused as well as brain washed!! People couldn't understand how I stayed with him for 7 years. You will never understand until you have been in that situation!! He made me not have my own friends, just his. He tried to keep me away from my immediate family, but I still managed to see my parents. He had me thinking I was dumb & stupid, that I was lucky I had him, cause no one else would have me. I had a miscarriage during our marriage & he said he wasn't surprised, cause I had never done anything right!!
I finally came to my senses & moved out, filed for divorce, ask for no alimony, didn't want to be tied to him in any way. After the divorce, he kept trying to see me. I finally moved way out of state, to get as far away as I could.
Well he followed me to where I moved, so I was always looking over my shoulder.
Five months after I had moved, my new girl friend from my new job, fixed me up on a blind date!! Best thing that ever happened to me!!!!! After 2 years of dating, I was so in love, he treated me like a princess!! We got married, that was 47 years ago, we have a son, & I have been so happy & truly Blessed!!

Katy Barrett has a pretty comfortable life. She and her young daughter, Sammy, live with her parents and she works as a bookkeeper. Although Sammy's dad died while in Afghanistan, they are still happy and have a nice life. While trying to repair her life after a tragedy, another comes her way in the form of her new boyfriend, Chuck Reeves. He seems like the perfect guy, but it's a facade that will soon be ripped away leaving Katy and Sammy fearing for their lives.
This book was a quick and intense read. I liked how Ms. Walker really made you feel all the emotions the characters were feeling, I especially enjoyed reading the daughter's thoughts. Trigger warning for anyone who has suffered abuse, this book may not be for you - or it may help you deal with your own past. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. I would have given it 5 but the afterword felt weird and unnecessary also their escape seemed a little dragged out. Overall a highly enjoyable book.

Katy has a great life with her young daughter Sammy. They live in Florida and are happy. They don't know they're being stalked by a con-man. Chuck seduces Katy and she falls for him. Then, all hell breaks loose after she leaves her home in Florida to follow him to his home in North Carolina. There, influenced by his early friends and family, he becomes a cruel and heartless monster. Katy has to escape the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse of her new partner. She and Sammy flee with Chuck hot on their heels. It's a terrifying journey... because he's promised he'll find her.

Very Difficult Writing Style
I understand that this is a very difficult subject matter and a tough story to tell but the philosophy of show and tell in writing is completely ignored in this book. 95% of the book reads like a therapy handover file. I get that this is based on a true story but it desperately needed more "show" .

Disclaimer: This audiobook was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
I have enjoyed this book greatly. The writing style is quite different, and it had me hooked. It has a bit of a push and pull feeling. Sometimes you are pulled into the story, standing right beside the character as she experiences the things around her, and other times you are just floating above all, passively observing the character. It is interesting, but might not be everyone's type of book. The pacing is just right, and I love the daughter very much, she is so lovely.
The narration by Ann Sprinkle was excellent, she was able to channel the character's emotions through so strongly. The breaking of character's voices in their speeches and the broken hearted calmness as they try to ease each other's worries were really well done and brought the listening experience to another level.

Salvation
Katey and her daughter Sammie have been happy alone for a while. When Katie meets Chuck, that changes, seemingly for the good. Chuck encourages Katey and Sammie to move from Florida to his hometown. Once there, with no friends or family to rely on, the abuse begins. It escalates quickly. Now, Sammie is also a target. Katey and Sammie know Chuck will never let them go, so they run.
The book is edited well and the writing flows nicely. I would recommend this book.

In this tale, the author depicted the difficult journey that Katy went through, when the love of her life, turned into someone that was completely different, than the man she thought she knew. This story was heartbreaking and harrowing; however, through listening to her inner voice, Katy's tale became one of survival. This story has some scenes of domestic abuse and therefore would not be suitable for younger readers. Ann Sprinkle's narration was fine and her voice was pleasing. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

The Journey by Chariss K. Walker
Katy once had the perfect life, until she met Chuck. He becomes possessive, abusive in every way possible. She knows what she must do, flee and get as far away from him as possible. But that will come at a price, her safety.
The story moves at a steady pace with well rounded characters and attention to details. Told with raw emotions, I could feel what Katy was going through. Overall I found The Journey to be a gripping, intense, emotionally charged read.
