Don't Know Jack

Rate this book
"You're awake?" I find myself looking at the most dangerous looking mother--er, man--I've ever seen. I know that face. I know that voice even better. It's Technico, Zoe's dad. "Good. We need that bed. Get up, you should be able to, now."

"Water," I rasp out. A woman in a black nurse's outfit moves forward, slipping a straw into my mouth. I take a drink, almost choke, and drink some more. It feels good being able to swallow easily. When she pulls away the straw I start to sit up. She looks panicked.

"You shouldn't be--"

"He's fine," Technico says. "He's in better shape than most. Aubrey's got skills I never thought I'd see in someone her age."

I feel a little light headed, really, but I'm sitting up. I hold my hand up, staring at the thin metal lines that swirl over my flesh. "I thought I was fine," I say.

What a mid series bang! This book continues to build on what has come before, but so much happens in this book! Jack continues to be a jerk, but we get to see a softer side to him as well. Aubrey contributes to that quite a bit. We get to see a lot more of how the Styles family operates, and I loved that Ken's being a preacher isn't just talked about this time, it's actually put to good use and made me think too! We still get to see familiar characters, and new mysteries are revealed at the same time. I can't wait to see what comes next!

I'm upset that this is the last free one on Kindle unlimited, and as someone who does not have at least $74 to spend on the rest of the series, it will be my last book. On one hand, maybe for the best as the formula and constant romantic pairing is getting old. I continue to love the plot, especially with a time traveler thrown in the next preview I got to read. But then the preacher superhero looks like he'll become a therapist so again, maybe alls for the best. I enjoyed it!

I love this series.

It really annoys me only the first five in the series are kindle unlimited. Then it $3 for the next like 20 books!

The author really wants to roll back the clock for women, 'Why don't we start cooking classes, girls?  I'm sure they'll come in handy with dating those two'. Keep the little women in the kitchen while the men just go about that business. Roll back the clock, take the vote away from them. The author should move to Saudi Arabia and arrange a few marriages which is what this book seems to be all about.
Recommended for ayatollahs.

You know what I think I love most about this series? The way it's peopled by intelligent adults. It's like the opposite of Harry Potter in that regard. All the Capes, hero or villain, are just really good people with realistic expectations for teenagers. I think the fact that the principle of the school is a former supervillain is a big aspect in the way rules get thrown around willy-nilly, but it's very refreshing from the stereotypical "He started the fight but I'm getting punished" scenario.

And Technico is, like....totally the coolest villain to ever casually surf the electric grid. I totally want him to have his own book, but I think part of what makes his character so great is the way we just get glimpses of him through the eyes of the other charries.

Don't Know Jack brings the Distort Arc to a close when Jack, from the first book wakes up. Jack was always an outsider, and Star Born's work has changed Jack drastically, and this is his story of trying to figure out where he fits, and what is important to him.

He's a bully. He was normal. Now he's a bully with metal manipulation abilities, making him a supervillain by default. And that starts the confusing new life of Jack, who suddenly is in a world were being supervillain is totally okay, as long as you don't get overboard with it.
