A woman is the prize in a treasure hunt in a shopping center. But it is hard for her to hide from the young men who are searching for her because she has been made to wear a most peculiar dress while she follows a trail of challenging clues. Is she clever enough to avoid being the guest of honor at an orgy?

A woman agrees to answer "Yes" to any question put to her. And then do whatever is necessary to make her answer true. The women who imposed that rule decide that she should spend a long weekend experiencing the dark side of female sexuality. Will she be asked a question that forces her say "no" and lose the game before the weekend is over?

An openly masochistic woman gives her husband a most unusual wedding gift. She has had herself surgically altered to give herself to him in a way that has never been done before. But, on their first anniversary, he makes use of her gift more completely than she ever expected. Even the most masochistic woman can only tolerate so much. Has her husband gone too far?

Coercive Devices by Ashley Zacharias

The description of the stories I am listing below is from the inside cover page of the book. I'm adding it because I believe the one on the Goodreads page does not depict these stories

“In this volume, I offer three novellas and a short story. Each story is based on a device that coerces a woman in some way during sado-masochistic activity.
The first two novellas describe erotic adventures staged by five women who call themselves the Wicked Women’s Adventure Club.
These stories are not for everyone. They are intended to appeal to people with a taste for submission, bondage, public humiliation, and sado-masochistic activities. If you do not enjoy these types of fantasies, you will not enjoy these stories.”

WWAC: The Un-Pleated Non-Dress
3 Stars-I enjoyed this story.

“In “WWAC: The Un-Pleated Non-Dress”, the coercive device is physical: a fiendish dress that forces a woman to be circumspect in her comportment while playing a game. But she faces a dilemma. If she acts too cautiously, she will lose the game and pay a sexual forfeit.”

This story was funny at times and always fast paced. No sex but lots of peek-a-boos. It was based in Boston so it was fun to see it through the authors eyes. I really enjoyed it. There was no romancing in this story.

WWAC: The Answer is “Yes”
3 Stars-I liked it for the most part.

“In “WWAC: The answer is ‘Yes’”, the coercive device is logical: a rule that, when followed, forces a woman to obey other people. Strangers sometimes benefit either by inadvertently saying the right thing or by discovering the rule that controls her behavior.”

It started off good but towards the end I thought the WWAC went too far in their punishment and in their test of loyalty. There were some parts that I was uncomfortable with in this story and didn’t like at all. The whole gauntlet was included in this story, lots of sex, bondage, submission, ménage, humiliation etc. I was surprised at the end with a very small bit of romance.

The Joy of Contrition
I didn’t like it.

“The short story, “The Joy of Contrition” provides a brief intermission to separate the Wicked Women’s Adventure Club novellas from the other novella. The coercive device is psychological: a woman needs to have herself punished in order to continue to engage in unethical behavior.”

Basically this scene described a woman getting caned. No pleasure for me in this story or romance, just pain.

Voodoo Doll
I didn’t like it.

“In “Voodoo Doll”, the coercive device is a sophisticated medical device that a wealthy woman has designed and had implanted in her body for her new husband’s amusement.”

It was between a husband and wife who love each other and show it in a very unique way so there is the romantic angle however, this one was just too weird and out there for me. A bit mystical (voodoo) think Zombie and a bit sci-fi think Bionic Woman…

Overall I liked the stories. Ms Zacharias writes smoothly and with great imagination. Her characters also flash a bit of humor which I always enjoy. I wouldn’t categorize this book as a standard Romance but there was a bit so I’m checking it off too.

Variable quality in this short story collection. I really enjoyed the first story, which built the tension and anticipation nicely. It manages to be erotic without being unduly crude.

The other stories didn't reach the same high standards in my opinion. 3-stars is an average of 4-stars for the first story and 2½ for the other three.

But on the kindle it isn't too expensive, so I think it was worth it just for the first story alone.

Ashley Zacharias writes the most interesting and intense erotic stories in the anthology Coercive Devices. The ladies of the WWAC and the way they were able to find adventures bring justice and enjoy having a good time was so imaginative. I find her books, this is the third I have read; to be some of the very best erotic writing I have found. WOW!!!

A great read. Some of the stories are better than others with my favorite being the last, Voodoo Doll. I realize that it may not be everyone's cup of tea but I found it exceptionally entertaining and downright sexy.
