This collection of speculative short fiction covers a wide range of futuristic stories, from tongue-in-cheek and serious sci-fi to the paranormal. It features the novella, “Flight from Mother World,” which, among other things, creates an alien world with striking parallels to Earth; several Doctor Carlos tales about the chief medical officer on the starship Brendan, set in a future beyond the Chaos Chronicles Trilogy; and many other stories that will lead to laughs, wonder, and suspenseful thrills.
Hi there. First a reader, but also an author, yet I'll be brief: I'm a native Californian, former Colombian resident, and now living in the Northeast. For more bio info, please see my author profile and/or website. Books are my life right now. While I am a full-time writer, I read a lot, and not just in the genres I write in. Those are mystery, thriller, and sci-fi, by the way...and you'll find them in short stories, novellas, and novels. My latest novels are Rembrandt's Angel (Penmore Press), Goin' the Extra Mile (Carrick Publishing), and The Last Humans (Black Opal Books)--yeah, I'm now a mongrel, although I was never 100% DIY before either. While I don't give away free novels (they're sometimes on sale at Smashwords for my email newsletter subscribers), I give away my short fiction. So does my collaborator A. B. Carolan. See my blog categories "Steve's Shorts," "ABC Shorts," and my list of PDFs free for the asking on my webpage "Free Stuff & Contests" at my website. I'm a member of International Thriller Writers. Around the world and to the stars! In libris libertas!
This short story collection had been pushed so far back on my Kindle's carousel that I'd forgotten about it. When I was looking for something to occupy my brain for a bit before bed, I came across it and opened it up.
I don't know why I quit reading it. Maybe because I was in the middle of a novella called "Flight from Mother World." I think all the characters were aliens, and I wasn't familiar with them. After reading the rest of Moore's novels, I now know the species known as "Rangers" pretty well, and when resuming this story, I fell right into it and enjoyed it to the end.
If you are in the mood for some solid "hard" science fiction stories (and one SF novella) including Moore's "Dr. Carlos" stories mostly collected in one place, this is a great book to grab. Five stars. Quality writing, storytelling, and creativity.
