More than 100 years ago, master bartender Tim Daly decided to share his extensive knowledge of mixology. The result was Daly's Bartenders' Encyclopedia, a guide to mixing more than 200 cocktails including classics like the Manhattan and little-known gems like the Trilby Cocktail. There's something in Daly's Encyclopedia for everyone: punches, hot toddies, non-alcoholic drinks, and more.
Here's an example of the type of recipes you'll encounter:
BANKER'S PUNCH Use a mixing glass.
3 dashes of raspberry syrup. 1 spoonful of powdered sugar dissolved in seltzer. Juice of one whole lime. 1 pony glass of Jamaica rum.
Fill the glass with shaved ice, and spoon well; take a large punch glass, put in four or five blackberries, four or five raspberries, one slice of pineapple; mash in bottom of glass, so as to extract juice; then pour the mixture into punch glass, on top of mashed fruit, and serve.
This is much sought after by bankers and brokers and considered by them unequalled.
